I truly hate the Americanisation that is seeping into draft night. Live trades, spreading it over two nights... stop with the nonsense!!!

Sorry, I wasn't just talking about round 1 picks. I was referring to players like JJ, JJ, Cunico, Murdoch, Norlin-Smith, Abbott. We, like all clubs, pick players hoping they will make the AFL grade. Unfortunately, a lot do. So Wells pointing out that we are looking to pick a player who will be able to play AFL is a bit rich. Unless he has learned his lesson and is only looking at ready-made AFL players. But how do you know if they are or aren't? Jack Henry was a rookie as was MOC. And they slotted in seamlessly. To be fair, our last 'bust' was Lang back in 2013. Since then Wells' strike rate has been outstanding. I don't think you can count Cockatoo as a bust due to injury, nor Gardner given our first pick was p59. Our 2016 draft is looking freakishly good, especially when you look at the players taken ahead of our selections.

Media reporting now that the Crows are leaning more the D.Stephens than McAsey. If true, McAsey likely to be available at Carlton's pick 9 which we could trade up for.

"Americanisation" - if the Americans do it better than us, there's no reason not to follow their lead. I agree there's no need to split it across two nights, but live trading is a must.
Here's what Wells had to say:
- Have narrowed down to a group of a few players for our first.
- Still a chance of trading into the top 10.
- Already made phone calls today to all prospective draftees.
- Our selctions will be amongst the players everybody thinks will be in the top 30.
- Worrell and De Koning will be considered, but not a pressing need to take KPD or a tall.
- Not committed to drafting a particular type of player.
- Would consider trading up, not just for Fischer McAsey, but won’t give up the farm to do it, very happy with current hand.
- Have talked to all clubs we’ve needed to regarding trading up the order given different scenarios.
- Will just pick the best players available at our picks.
- We’ve done a lot of work on Brodie Kemp over the years so we're not concerned by his knee given our success with Selwood, Varcoe who were injured in their draft years too.
- Don’t desperately need to draft a ruckman given Stanley, Fort and Ratugolea.
- See Jordan Clark developing in a number of different positions including inside mid, but in the near term he’ll be half back and wing.
- Reason for giving Danger a contract until 34 helps with our TPP.
- Could bid on Liam Henry and Finn Maginness depending on who’s left on the board.
- Jack Steven could play both forward and midfield next year, and Josh Jenkins could play forward/ruck if Stanley or Esava go down.
- We’re thinking about “life after Joel”, which includes opportunities for players already on our list, and players we draft tonight.
- Most excited about Nakia Cockatoo for next year, also impressed with Kennerley, Fogarty and Constable since they’ve returned to training.
well done sir for mine ... he had the pads on ... just taking the shine off the new ball ...
Really sounded like he wasn't interested in taking any talls, maybe I'm reading too much into it, or Wells is bluffing. Tonight will be entertaining if nothing else.
Seeing all clubs, players & player agents all speak to each other during the year why not televise everything over two nights? Live playing trading, draft & rookie drafts. Rather than having a 2 week bore fest."Americanisation" - if the Americans do it better than us, there's no reason not to follow their lead. He says the same stuff nearly interview ... No interest in Jenkins ..no need ..etc ... then bang. IF the right tall is there ..he will take him. The only bit that might just tweak me a bit was his refer to Varcoe and Selwood ... Id say we take Kemp if he is there
Hope he puts a few divots in it and shreds the seam tonightwell done sir for mine ... he had the pads on ... just taking the shine off the new ball ...
