Some decent leadership from Scott today and I agree with most of his actions. Amazing those calling for complete lockdown as though the economic implications of that are a secondary consideration only. The maintenance of our trade systems and exchange of goods is the most important part of a sustainable society, even whilst a pandemic ranges. Especially as a pandemic rages.

FMD, this is the first post of yours I have ever agreed with. Especially the bolded part. You can't just shut down an economy. Do that and suicide will be a bigger killer than COVID-19. :thumbsu:

The airwaves lit up with admiration and respect for ScoMo's presser this morning.

Even dyed in the wool labor voters were full of praise.

No wonder the thread was so quiet this morning.

Fantastic, great work, nice post Jenny.

Over 50 new cases in NSW today..... just saying.
Anyone with common sense knows what is coming, it's truly bizarre those in charge don't. They keep pointing to Singapore as an example of a country that controlled it without locking down schools or businesses. They fail to point out that Singapore tested liberally, allowing them to track down positive cases, whereas here, we have a shortage of tests and have told people specifically not to be tested until already showing clear symptoms.

Melbourne CBD's the emptiest I've seen it, yet the people who are out there still aren't wearing mask, no hand sanitisers readily available. The waiter serving me at the restaurant was coughing and sniffling, luckily I had my mask and hand sanitized the **** outta myself

This is just the start, too, gonna get worse and worse

I'm still on the fence about Morrison but I thought he was good this morning. Showed leadership, was measured, appealed to the Aussie spirit.

I don't see anyone suggesting an alternative PM who would be doing a better job in these circumstances.

The contrast is the absence of State Govt self interest.

Only in Scummo world can you rabbit on about the advice of health professionals in the same sentence as talking about job losses.

Pick the odd one out...

Scummo - this is health emergency
Hunt - this is a health emergency
Chief Medic - this is a health emergency
Scummo - thousands of people will lose their jobs if we close down schools.

Not across multi tasking, ask your little sister.

Why don't you explain it to me?

While you're at it....explain what a targeted, scalable stimulus is, as opposed to a non-targeted, non-scalable stimulus.
And while you're at that...explain what listening to Treasury advice about stimulus in 2008 is different to listening to Treasury advice about stimulus in 2020.

Under reacting might be worse
Morrison says he is acting on the advice of experts, plenty of other experts say he isn’t going far enough. Haven’t seen a single health expert claiming he’s gone too far. The only people that believe that are ignorant (don’t understand what’s going on), selfish (don’t like having to adapt their lives) or just greedy (all about the money).

problem here is that the two go hand in hand...if we lockdown then you know those folks with 2 houses and the BMW X5, well, they won’t be able to service their mortgages because they live week to week..I’m talking about those folk from areas such as Avondale Hts and Glen Waverely and so on..the ones trying to keep up with the Jones’. The banks business is 80% mortgages, the household debt is second largest in the world, so shutting down is not an option.

on the flip side if we did do that and you have some money it’d be the perfect time to buy a house...actually, minus the virus and deaths/chaos associated with it, this is an opportune time for those with money and the affordability to sit it out for 3-6 months when the rebound occurs.

What the govt needs to do is ban US nationals from coming in for at least 4-8 weeks...it’s crazy we’re still allowing them to arrive here.
