So what was the point of starting the whole season if a negative test isn't enough? The AFL are acting on the Department of Health's advice.

A carrier usually means someone that has the virus, but is asymptomatic (eg Connor McKenna).
Because he is a carrier, the rest of the players are isolating for 48 hours until it is determined that they do not have the virus. If it comes back negative, it means they didn't catch the virus from McKenna.

McKenna tested negative 5 times, meaning he caught it this week.

ive already explained why you are wrong. I don’t like the situation anymore than you do

Apparently Stephen Dank conducted the Wednesday test though. So does that count?
That was so funny

The issue is that you won't show up positive on a test for at least a few days (and in some cases up to two weeks) after being exposed. This is why contacts are asked to isolate for two weeks post exposure even if they receive a negative result when tested straight away.

not correct. Different studies show different results. We don’t even know if 14 days is the max incubation period. There is so much they don’t know about Covid

Why didnt you answer my question? Number of cases of the many millions worldwide where what you are saying has been proven?

I believe the number is 0. At least, the WHO has said that. And every country study has shown no cases.

But maybe its happened somewhere and we dont know. Reason enough to shut down the world, yes?

Not sure what that has to do with whether something is out of control. If WA had 25 new cases today would Victoria be in control or out of control?

State v State is a p155ing comp - put simply our 2 biggest cities have a need to manage their problems & they are.
It demonstrates the reality of opening our international borders.

you trust the WHO? Interesting

Studies are still being done. Many have contradicted each other. The simple fact is we know very little about this virus.

What I am saying is what you do to minimise as much risk as possible. That’s the medical view.

my personal view is let it rip and deal with the sick. But I’m not a doctor so...

That's working well for Sweden. ;)

im a survival of the fittest type. Probably good I don’t make policy decisions
Basically doing nothing sacrifices many of the older population.

Well the AFL season shouldn't have begun if that's what we're going with.

The incubation period of the virus means the time it takes for the onset of symptoms after exposure. It doesn't mean the time it takes for a test to return positive. Again, if we're going to doubt the actual accuracy of the test, then there's no point in testing.

The players are already self-isolating for 48 hours. That should be enough.

They'll trace who had contact with Connor McKenna for sure and take the necessary measures. The AFL are acting on the Department on Health's advice.

Not disputing the idea or your friend's perspective but minimising risk is not really workable in a complete sense. If we adopted this approach we would never drive a car, get on a place, turn on a BBQ, use a knife and so on. There is always a judgment call on what the risk appetite is.

Potentially could just be played on Monday/Tuesday assuming no more positives. How likely that is I have no idea.
Well, they did shorten quarters so multiple games could be played with short turn around. So reschedule/ postpone Essendon matches and do more later in year. No doubt other clubs will eventually be in same boat.
