Charlie Cameron is born in Mount Isa in Queensland, and spent the 1st 15 or so years of his life there. He, along with his family moves to WA. He plays in the WAFL for a season and is picked up by the crows. 3 years later he is back in his home state of Queensland.

Neale situation was slightly different. He is from the 2011 draft just like Chad wingard. And also like wingard, was out of contract until 2019, that makes it 8 years and that means he would be a free agent.

Neale forced freo a trade to Brisbane, who was offering around $750-$800,000 a year. He was on $500,000 a year in his deal at freo.

Also most importantly. And this is Ironic. Crows list manager until late 2016-early 2017 was David Noble. David Noble has been at Brisbane since he left the crows and I do think he has done a good job since he joined Brisbane

Why wouldn't you just pay Neale what he wanted. You'd be spending that on a completely washed up hogan.

1990 - Not in the league yet
1999-2000 they were mediocre at best, in need of rebuild, out with Blight and in Ayres
2010-2011 likewise, issues, outdated/fatigued, out with Craig
2020 - just coming off 2 years similar to Sanderson's last two, rebuild required

Well here is what happened...

He got a 2 year deal for 2012 and 2013. Then signed a 3 year deal for 2014-16. He then Signed a 3 year extension again in mid 2016 when freo was 0-10. That contract was for the 2017-19 seasons and on $500,000 a year. Back in 2016-17, $500,000 a year is good coin for someone when they are 22-24 years old. Salry cap grew a fair bit in the last 3-4 years hence why Fyfe was a free agent in 2017 and signed that extension until 2023 at 1 million a year.

I got animosity towards him to be honest, Brisbane gave us at least something in return. Point was, If he was patient for one more season, He would be able to negotiate a better deal. Worst case scenario in 2019 was, If Neale still wanted to leave, he still could of got that 5 year deal as Brissy anyway. He was worth the $750-$800,000 a year if he demanded it.

But saying that, if he wanted to stay at freo, we had the cash to keep him as Ballantyne and Sandilands both retired as both were on some serious cash, well Sandilands anyway.

Saying that, I love the old saying, dont throw all your eggs in one basket. Jesse Hogan wasnt the only tall KPF we got in the Trade period, Rory Lobb was the other tall too. I sometimes wished freo held on to Neale for one more year and settled for pick 6. Lobb was always coming to us the moment we traded pick 6 and that 2019 3rd rounder to port for picks 11, 23, 30 and 49. As I said, the moment freo finished 14th in 2018, they were going to do a trade of trading picks 5 and 41, which was an early 1st and early 3rd for a teams 10, 28 and 46, a mid 1st, mid 2nd and mid 3rd or there abouts.

I have said sometimes its better to get 2 blokes to kick 25-30 or even 40 goals each then one bloke kicks 50-60, 80 goals in the season. If your 3-4 goal a game key forward does have an injury and is out for 4-5 weeks. thats 12-20 goals to make up. You lose a bloke that kicks 1.5-2 goals a game for 4-5 weeks. thats 6-10 goals you need to find, which isnt impossible.

Again, this isnt 2012-15 where freos forward stocks were an Ageing pav, a young matt taberner and an injury prone kpf/Ruck in Michael Apeness.

I dont mind Freos current KPF stocks: Lobb, Taberner, McCarthy, Cox, Dixon. we just need 2 of those blokes to kick around 30 goals a year each. This is without mentioning hogan.

this makes no sense. you think freo hoped he would stay for one more year but then were happy to let him walk to brisbane. then you state you needed more tall forwards but go out of your way to mention hogan wasn't the only one you got, given you got Lobb.

surely your biggest issue is your midfield. Mundy is old now, probably his last season. Brayshaw is good but will need time. Cerra is on the HBF and might not convert into the winger people thought he would be. So now you have conca running through there.

surely the answer was to keep Neale at all cost. he's an all australian midfielder. they don't grow on trees and they're rare.

Neale is more valuable to Freo than Hogan or Lobb or anyone else.

Part of the problem whether some want to admit it or not is our supporters because they continously back the club and make comments like " I love my boys" and "I still love my club no matter what" which is all good and proper but seriously why be so optimistic after the crap they have dished up the last 3 years. It is those supporters that continue showing up and pumping money into the club that feeds our incompetent leadership as they are happy that they get their money. I mean can port supporters during 2011-12 period say that they loved the club and were optimistic about how things were going. Our club has never bottomed out like this, they have always been spoon fed from the very first days and its become a lazy cultured club except for 1997 and 1998 under Blight. As a crows supporter, it is just so hard to have any respect for the club right now and i am not going to defend any comments coming our way from opposition supporters because 90% of it is FACTS.

I admit i dislike Port with a passion but a part of me has respect for them because last few years they have done well in building their list, cleaning out players that weren't performing and bringing in genuine A grade talent and some that are potential A grade talent in the coming years. We all have teams we dislike but it takes guts to admit having respect for them. I don't hate Richmond for instance, they won in 2017 because they worked their asses off and have turned it around for themselves since then because they had the guts to face up to REAL change and look where its led them. So to our spineless board, do the right thing and either face up to your faults or get out and let someone who can do a COMPETENT job take over.

Clarke - also coach of AFLW, who's been there for 10 years
Godden - first year in charge of the midfield, never coached at AFL level or even played AFL before
Mattner - we sacked him a few months ago
Hart - sacked by Collingwood, couldn't get a gig so we signed him up and were going to sack him before Francou left. Dead set hopeless

Reilly - average ex-AFC player, elevated to senior role to cover Mattner who we sacked, only been a coach for 3 years
Wright - covering for Hart who was suspended, only been a coach for 2 years
Younie - ex-SANFL player who heads up our player development for last 7 years

This has to be the worst coaching panel in the AFL. Practically zero experience or quality

All this list needs is an assistant coach dialling in via Skype.

I think Adelaide, all things considered, have been a relatively professionally run club throughout their 29 years in the competition. They have made the mistake of appointing their early club legends into positions of great influence in the club and as their performance has decline, these appointments seem like cronyism (but are certainly not alone there). But had they won the flag in 2017, I dont think you'd hear any such accusations. The media love to simplify - unsuccessful clubs had a 'bad' culture, successful clubs have a good 'culture' - when it reality there is a great cross-over.

Ross Lyon's 2009-10 Saints teams - no premiership, but you cant doubt they were a great team with terrific work ethic, that was just unlucky. Contrast that to that Eagles of 2005/06 - great team no question, won a premiership. But there was some serious governance issues with that club which only came to light afterwards, and had they not ultimately defeated the Swans in 2006, that era would have been considered a massive failure and heads would have rolled in quick succession.

During the 2000's Adelaide were an incredible professional team that should have played off in a Grand Final (made three prelims, two semis and two elimination finals). They've recruited very well and lost a handful of high profile players back to Victoria and elsewhere. In the first half of the last decade they were competing against some champion teams such as Hawthorn. When they finally go their chance and their list had been playing together for an extended period, they appointed Phil Walsh. We all know that tragic story. But I believe that was a great appointment and seriously think he could have taken them to a flag. the 2017 GF (which I attended) was a complete capitulation, there no reason the Crows could not have won that game. As good as the Tigers have proven to be, the Crows had smashed both their finalist opponents (albiet at home). Just a classic case of stage fright, which happens. But ultimately it turned out to be their best shot and they've imploded rapidly since, due to factors which not have been so foreseeable then.

They'll experience some re-growing pains in the next couple of years. But honestly if there's a year to be at the bottom of the ladder, its this farce of a season.

The grand final was what it was for Adelaide.
The camp however, seems to have been the breaking point.
The handling of the fallout from the camp by club management was even worse.
