Weitering & Jones in the best 22
Casboult is the backup key def
Macreadie the developing/AR project
Marchbank, Plowman and Gov can take a 3rd tall or the 2nd tall if need be (for a game or a short patch of games).
You're hoping that 2 of Weitering, Jones & Casboult are fit at any given time and if you have to go one or two games without 2 of those 3 (preferably Weitering is the one who stays on the park!) then you make do with the next in line.
I'm not really convinced that losing Goddard or BSOS actually does much at all to our tall defender depth. Yeah, we've got less of them overall, but we've hardly got less than would have played anyway...
I hope Owies doesn't get delisted. Showed a bit when he played his first match this season. Has also been building nicely in the "ressies" over the past two years. Has pace, pressures and can kick goals.

It’s being reported today that Williams has told the Giants that he wants to explore his free agency options. He is being linked to us and North. Why would he be attracted to North? How would North sell themselves as an attractive destination?
Murphy, too. Just clean out the old and get on with it imo.
Do we though?
Or do we just trade/free agent a ready-made second/third tall?
There's always a couple floating around, and we should be making finals at that point which makes us an attractive proposition. They rarely cost big money or high draft picks either.
Joel Hamling to the Bulldogs for a late second.
James Stewart to Essendon for Pick 77.
Logan Austin went to St Kilda for an upgrade of a fourth to a third.
Jake Stringer went to Essendon for a couple of later seconds.
Josh Schache to WB for a second and third.
Jordan Roughead went to Collingwood for Pick 75.
Marcus Adams went to Brisbane for a 32 and a future third.
Jack Hombsch went to GC for a future fourth.
Adam Tomlinson to Melbourne as a relatively budget free agent.
Josh Walker to NM as a delisted free agent.
Sam Frost to Hawthorn for a future second (with some other picks going back).
Jon Patton to Hawthorn for a future fourth.
Billy Frampton to Adelaide for a future fourth.
Dougal Howard and Paddy Ryder for Pick 18 (with some other minor pick shuffles).
Josh Bruce to the Bulldogs for Picks 32 and 51.
Alex Keath to the Bulldogs for a future second.
Josh Jenkins to Geelong for a swap of thirds.
Aidan Corr to wherever he's going as a free agent.
That's since 2016...
If we need a second defender or a third tall/backup ruck to play alongside guns like Weiters, McKay, Curnow and TDK, it won't be difficult to find one for a pretty minimal outlay. No need for a star, just a solid spoiler who can play a disciplined game.
FB: Ben McKay
CHB: Weitering
Centre/Ruck: Cripps/De Koning
CHF: Charlie Curnow
FF: Harry McKay
Now THATS a ******* spine made for a dynasty.
North delisted what 11 players and are likely to trade out Ben Brown and Polec - surely Williams won't go to that tyre fire.Nothing has changed in recent weeks, other than Papley saying he's staying put.
Williams would make for an excellent get for us and I know people may put North down, just because we now can, but I feel he's a much better fit for us than he would be at North. North have other priorities to get into line, I feel.
The only thing that may sway Williams to North (other than money) may be for him being guaranteed a midfield role.
Then again, given a likely 5 year contract on serious coin, he may not care where he plays.

What about going after a lonie from saints? Could be our butler?
"it won't be difficult to find one for a pretty minimal outlay. No need for a star, just a solid spoiler who can play a disciplined game." Or we can outlay even less and keep MacReadie and BSOS on the list for another year and see what happens.
When Simpson, Kreuzer, Lang, Moore & Goddard are all likely to eb on the way out and you could push Finbar out as well before you got to MacReadie and BSOS why do we need to push these blokes out the door only to go to the draft (likely without any early picks) in a year where no one has seen the draftees play for a year?
Ben McKay out of contract next season. Might be time to start looking for Liam Jones' successor. He seems to have a good understanding of his limitations, marks when he can and spoils when he cant. If its not coming in lace out youd favour him at winning the contest.
We'd have very capable bookends in the McKay brothers...
He's a mid, not a forward
Sure. But it comes down to numbers, how we've assessed BSOS and Macreadie, and who else on the list is more or less deserving of a spot.
We shouldn't keep them just to have them in our back pocket for when Jones and Casboult retire or drop off a cliff. When that time comes, we can make it work with a slightly shorter backline or go out and recruit a second defender or depth ruck/forward for peanuts.
Personally, I'd be happy to retain one of the two. I think, pending fitness, Macreadie is the better option. But that fitness is a major consideration. BSOS doesn't seem to have Jack's desire to improve himself. I think if that is the case then there's no point holding on to him any longer in the current climate. If Macreadie's body won't stand up though, and Ben isn't going to push himself, then cut both and move on.
Plus B McKay is about the right height to match up on them King boys for when they really start firing...
200cm forwards seems the trend moving forward.

No idea what goes through players minds, we lost Shiel to Essendon straight after the drugs stuff so who knows..
Bit late to get this one up and running - but new year, new thread.
And thanks to Lore we've got a shiny new spreadsheet with all the data you could possibly want.

Yes, indeed it could be a multitude of reasons. I'm not sure it particularly means he didn't desire us but that either the trade couldn't be done or indeed he now just prefers to stay with the Swans (remember his Grandfather played for them). Doesn't also mean the trade is dead and buried...www.bigfooty.com
We need Williams and Saad to provide us with run. We should give away our 1st Round Pick this year for Saad and our 1st round pick next year for Williams.
We are still short in the midfield but we won't be if SPS, Dow, O'Brien, Stocker and Fisher step up to the plate.
