Name them. Footy IQ players RARELY fail. I'd love to see some names considering you think there are plenty.

A few Brownlow medalists alwso come to mind - Sam Mitchell, Jimmy Bartel, Matt Priddis...

Footy IQ is the highest quality in an AFL footballer. The ability to get to the right positions and make the right decisions - there's no better trait to have.
Spot on Souup Greg Williams Robert Harvey just to name a couple more.Speed can be so over rated a smart footy brain will win every time.

Geelong, GWS & WB should all be offering first round picks as a mere starting point. If any of these teams had him playing in the ruck, they’d all be winning finals this year. All of them have significant ruck deficiencies!
WB has Dunkley playing ruck FFS

Goldie is the interesting one of the vets as I think he has 3 years - maybe even 4 - left and we have no one who can take his spot. He will be around and still good when we compete hard in 2023.

For that reason his value is high - min first rounder as you say - and probably top 10 for a team that is desperate.

I dont want Goldie to go - I want him to be a one club man and he still has plenty to offer us in the rebuild.

I'm surprised we haven't been linked to Peter Wright and Will Brodie yet, its almost a no brainer for us to take them and their salaries in exchange for a late selection. Both young, Victorian, high end draft picks who rate above average in a range of statistical categories and play positions we need to fill going into next year.

Well as per previous years and previous list and club management. It's probably best we haven't been linked to anyone yet.

I hope we have a good trade period. I think we should trade for Liam Ryan and also for Charlie Cameron. They would be a great influence on Thomas and The Bull in the forward line and I think those two at the feet of Larkey and Ben brown (he will stay) would be great. I also think we should try and get Taylor Adams and Lachie Neeld for the midfield to help JY and LDU as they develop. Solid big bodies will take the pressure off their developments. Perhaps get Nic Nat to help Goldie out when he is puffed. In the back line I thin we should get Haynes and Darcy Moore to help out Taz and Bmac. Also I think we need a good speedy half back with good foot skills so perhaps Short from the tigers and Daniel from the Dogs. I also like the heat Maynard brings so get him as well. Be good to get some more experience around Shaw so I am thinking Clarkson as his vice. Horse would also make a good midfield coach. I reckon that should see us pushing for a spot in the top 8 by 22. Things are looking up.

Yep a superior footy IQ trumps speed every day of the week.

A smart footballer will use someone’s speed against them - a quick fake handball sees the speedster go flashing by thus creating a metre or two of space without even barely moving. Cunners does it superbly..

Think after tonight’s result, the dogs will come sniffing around for Brown.

Shame they’re paying Bruce so much, but sending Naughton to the backline and playing Brown out of the square would help them imo.
I suspect that they need a robust ruck like a Nankervis, who might be obtainable. English has talent but cannot match it with the bigger bod's for now. Just my thoughts.

Agreed. I was only stating his value to these teams. They should definitely be ‘inquiring’ about him with decent offers to back it up. They would all be premiership contenders with a ruckman of Goldy’s quality supplying their midfielders...

** I have previously posted the stats of Roos and his disciples success. It is not a great read. 2 flags from 36 seasons coached.

That's very narrow criteria given how hard it is to win them and there have been two dynasties (Geelong, Hawthorn) in that time. Between Longmire and Lyon alone you have six grand finals and countless prelims/finals wins.

On the other hand we've won a handful of finals in 20 years.

Id love both of then back. Not sure Drew has the runs on the board yet but you'd think hed be a great presence round the club.

Shaw, Blakey, Boomer, Pratt, Drew, Adams, Brown, Crocker - would be a great group from a cultural point of view. With Rawlings setting the key metrics and expectations.
As much as I like the romance I doubt it will be an all ex Roos line up

Do you think I should compare the same criteria to Clarkson protegees?

8 over however many seasons coached.

And currently 3 teams live in finals right now.

The criteria is not unreasonable.

I mean of this years top 8, 6 coaches came through Clarkson.

Fair enough. What's your minimum number of flags won before you'd accept someone in a senior role at North?

It just came across like you were trying to paint Roos as a negative or as not successful because assistants that have worked under him have only made GFs and prelims rather than actually winning a bunch of them.

I don't like Roos style of football and I have reservations about ultra defence coming from Rhyce.

But I can walk and chew gum.

If we get Roos. We have Blakey. Rhyce would seemingly have the support around him he wants.

Then it is on him if what we're doing fails.

I would assume the fact we got blakes, we would now not be bothering with Roos would we?
Also, that story was never confirmed was it re Roos?

Bringing in Blakey, potentially Roos and other highly rated Assistants is as much about driving high standards as implementing an effective game plan.

The broad sweeping assumption that we are going to bring in Blakey/Roos/Others and implement a poor defensive brand is just that, an assumption.

The 2020 game plan did not work, no doubt about that. However IMO our lack of skilled users across the field did not help the attempted game plan. I expect our gameplan to evolve over the coming years as our young players and our first year coach gain experience.

I’d prefer to wait and see what our game plan looks like after a preseason with Blakey and hopefully other highly rated coaching staff, before making these types of judgements.

I'm still waiting for that, too.

Perhaps it's based on the view that cutting 11 was too much, which I can understand (it hurts). However, no compelling case has been made for retention of any one of the 11 individuals.
Maj.

The difference between2017 (6 wins) and 2018 (13 wins but no finals, footy gods hate Brad) was the improvement in form of Maj
...
and Jed Anderson (which had its own intrinsic midfield value and freed JZ up to play forward and kick nearly 40 goals.) But definitely Maj.

Dunno if he is still up to playing at that level, especially for long enough to make a difference re finals but he made a massive difference when played as as an intercepting backman.

You can’t get a top 10 pick for a guy who is 33 next year.
