I will say the timing is not ideal for all this - we have a grand final to win still.. Surely GWS/Cameron could have waited a week... It's not as if they can do anything until 30th October anyway.

On the surface it would seem so, but there is no way this news is leaked without the GFC permission. We're obviously comfortable with the timing of the announcement..

The aggressive move would be something like 11 13 18 35 to hawks for 4 21 41 (or 4 41 and a future r2) or 11/13 and a future 1st to GC for 5. (I doubt the top 3 picks are gettable).

At that point gws know we can probably get cameron at 4/5 in the ND if we have to and so they really cant match unless they want to keep him and think he will stay as otherwise he goes to the draft and they get nix.

I doubt we are harsh enough to do it but its definitely an option.

Makes no sense to match, we don't have better than what they can get via compo.
We can give them 13 or 18 as a good will gesture for a kid like XOH Or Caldwell which would be overs.

Thats true i was just pointing out we have options.

Plus if they match he might even stay and then they are stuck with a contract they dont want.

One things for sure, IF we win the Grand Final and IF we got Cameron, Crouch and Higgins for next to nothing, the rules around free agency will change. Nothing surer. Same thing happened when we got Hawkins father son.

I think Gerard Whately described it pretty well on AFL 360 tonight. We as supporters of all clubs love trades, excpet when they don't really suit, like Tom Lynch and Jeremy Cameron. Plenty of trades happen every year where players move from bottom clubs at the time to top clubs at the time. It can turn pretty quickly though. 3 years ago nobody wanted to go to Brisbane - they get Fagan and a couple of players, start climbing the ladder and then others want to go there. Carlton all of a sudden appear to be a bit of a destination club, despite being down the bottom for several years as people can see they are on the rise. I think it turns and can turn quickly. People just don't like this one becase we are playing off in a Grand Final and will potentially be nabbing last year's Coleman medalist. I didn't like it when Richmond got Lynch from a cellar dweller either, but it happens and we have to deal with it.

Some on the main board are arguing the rich get richer etc, but afaic GWS played off in a grand final last year and will be getting compensated with more first round picks. Not exactly the poor getting poorer IMO. We are a good club and thus are attracting players atm. If we drop down the ladder that will probably change - case in point Hawthorn.

I hope you're wrong though as I'm enjoying players nominating the Cats :)

I think we should trade end of first round pick to NM for Higgins and they pay a large portion of his wage.. We could then really strong arm GWS and keep picks 11,13...

They must be eyeing off picks 11,13 surely... I am quite surprised they don’t just take pick 9 and move on.

if they don’t get away with two first rounders it will be an embarrassment for them... so they must be hell bent on 2-3 of our first rounders.... which is a scenario I am not overly keen for...

His season was not that outstanding, would almost prefer to keep the picks get crouch higgins and play krueger sav...

Those picks could be quite valuable

Its up too Wellsy if he thinks their is value in our latter first but Clark to Freo for pick 10 and swap of latter picks to them, 10 & 11 to GWS leaving us with 2 1st rd picks plus Cameron, I dont see the need for Higgins at all and would rather give game time to the young players we have

Gold Coast didn't match because the compo got them Rankine in a super draft.

Doubt there will be any kids rated that high for the Giants to get at pick 10.

We are in the position we are in for one reason, because we don't overpay players.

It's not like we are giving up top 5 picks.

Its disappointing to lose the picks ... it diminishes my enjoyment in the comp ... but you are totally correct ..its why others like Collingwood are in trouble

If they don't match they will get pick 10
Pick 9. Don’t fall into this media conditioning of us to make it sound alarmist. They get pick 9 and 10 for their two free agents if they so choose.

Media will only say pick 10 because it creates emotion and more clicks. However they will then immediately point to Geelongs Pick 11 & 13 in the next sentence completely disregarding the logic they just spewed on on. Apparently our picks are magic. They don’t slide.

Also pretty infuriating to listen to the shows last night talking about free agency and the good clubs reeming the poor clubs and that the “Geelongs” just get stronger.

In the next breath they say Cameron will be a trade and start salivating with what the deal will be. If it’s a trade it’s NOT free Agency. Patrick Dangerfield did not leave as a free agent. It cost Geelong drafting Local Charlie Curnow. Ablett was NOT a free agent.

They are two seperate issues. If we get Cameron for free ala Haw and Rich then let’s have the debate.

I’m not familiar with that Turbo. How does it work?
They rate players based on their history to try to keep an even playing field. They use cap and points... do it for footy and and netball ...

AFL Barwon introduces $20,000 salary cap and player points system for GFL and BFL netball competitions
AFL BARWON has settled on its preferred option for the new salary cap and points system to be installed for local netball competitions this year.

AFL BARWON has settled on its preferred option for the new salary cap and points system to be installed for local netball competitions this year.
Clubs in the GFL and BFL will have an equal amount — $20,000 — to be split across their playing lists for the season, while A-grade teams will be able to play at a maximum of 26 points per match.

Similar to the football points system, players will be allocated a value based on a range of factors, including experience at higher levels and loyalty given to clubs.

New AFL Barwon general manager, Will McGregor, said the system had been designed to ensure teams at the bottom end of the ladder were able to remain competitive.
