Seems to be Willie Brown, a mainstream politician who provided some support to the People's Temple in 1970s and later said he regretted it and would never have done so if he knew Jones was a madman.
Or a CIA stooge.:drunk::greenalien::eek:

What the * are you on about? The ABC did little more than report the findings of the eSafety Commissioner to Senate Estimates, using direct quotations:
"What we're really seeing a lot of is what we call volumetric cross platform online abuse which is coordinated by ostensibly white extremists (and) conspiracy theorists,"
"The whole idea is to create an avalanche of hate directed towards specific targets, usually women or those with other intersectional factors.
"The volumetric attacks on Nyadol Nyuon, who is an African Australian activist, as well as Magda Szubanski in the wake of her public service announcement around wearing covid masks, were all coordinated right wing extremist attacks."
This is not the ABC pushing a barrow, it's direct reporting of news.

Respectfully, you don't need to keep saying "respectfully" :p I get that you're being respectful just in the way you're engaging me, if you disagree you don't need to preface it with "respectfully".

Yeah, I respect what you're saying. :respectful look

Again, none of this reflects me supporting Trump, I'm just trying to be a neutral observer and I see poor behaviour on both sides. If you want to get to the crux of what I think: I think Trump is a product of a broken system. Rather than complain about the symptom, get to the heart of the issue and fix the system, and then the Trumps (and Bidens) of the world won't be running for President.

Absolutely.

Problem is of course that those who hold the reins have a vested interest in the system remaining broken.

And so around they go.

Further, as CharlieMortdecai has pointed out, there's been no effort by the Trump administration to tackle the problem of white supremacy.

Agreed.

A joint committee was put together last year compromising representatives from the US Dept Of Homeland Security, the FBI, and the US Dept Of Justice, tasked with "analyzing and monitoring domestic terrorist activity".

They found that "white supremacists and other far right-wing extremists are the most significant domestic terrorism threat (currently) facing the United States."

I think in light of that it wouldn't hurt the current administration to do a little more to tackle the issue and, at a bare minimum, use clear and unambiguous messaging when pressed on the subject.

If you could explain to me why the right wing extremists amplify Pete Evens views that would be great..

‘That ramped up after TV chef Pete Evans posted about the ad calling it "offensive and disgraceful" and accusing it of "brainwashing" children.’

or did I miss the part when Paleo Pete trained with Azov.

As the eSafety Commissioner said:

Pete Evans would be one of the highest profile whack job conspiracy theorists in Australia and probably has more followers than any other Australian in that realm. No doubt when he jumped in he brought Magda to the attention of others.

But the ABC are part of the deep state establishment that are preventing the cream rising to the top for their shot at world domination; or so I've been told.

Going back to the original point, are they just grouping a whole lot of internet trolls and branding them with a negative connotation now?

are they actually really going to say people who are claiming the government is wasting taxpayer dollars on stupid covid advertisement, you’re either now right wing extremist or conspiracy theorist?

Me thinks they’ve gathered randomised data to make a story. Rather then validate the question, why the hell is a comedian the face of the covid response, during a *en pandemic.
And how much money did this just cost us..

Probably not given the following:
Commissioner Inman Grant said the agency was tracking right wing movements and conspiracy theorists.

"In the wake of the Christchurch atrocity we were given a substantial set of new powers around abhorrent, violent material but also some powers around ISP blocking in the event of an online crisis," she said.

"Many of the events we had to assess in the last year have involved right wing extremism including the Halle terrorist attack that happened on Twitch, El Paso and others.

"We've of course been following things like Q-Anon, the (far-right) Boogaloo movement and some of the right wing extremists here in Australia."
It's probably also worth noting that the story has been widely reported, including in Murdoch media.

Yes it’s all of those internet trolls are known to each other, they meet on Fridays to burn there wicker lamps and march across campus saying things like down with socialism or globalisation sucks. Pete Evens is their Australian ringleader.

Personally I can see why it might be an issue with Commissioner Inman Grant considering her ties to Microsoft but that’s a story for another day

I think the point is:
A) it's not a case of political correctness gone mad at the ABC as Mario seems to think. It was a session at Senate Estimates that got picked up by all the press.
B) taking Inman Grant at face value it's not a case of lumping together everybody who disagrees with Magda's ad as a right-wing troll. I read it as their monitoring of the activities of know right wing groups showed up the co-ordinated attack.
I haven't fact checked their methodology so perhaps it is flawed but at first blush I have no reason to doubt them.

(Billy I stuck this here instead of the BBB thread. I've probably put enough rubbish in that thread for this lifetime.)

Yeah I can, with coins, sticks and even hexagram dice but I just did an online one. I presume it's a random number generator. IMO it's not the method that matters. What is important is the frame of mind you are in when you ask the question. The ritual is just a tool to get you into that frame of mind. In the same a good pre game ritual will get you ready to play good footy. Like all rituals its about programming your sub conscious and conscious mind to get you into the right head space to do what you are gonna do.

I don't do it often tho. Really the I Ching is a few different things. It's a form of maths that aims to measure direction not magnitude IMO. No doubt allegedly saner people would disagree.

But as a tool of divination it's not so much about predicting the future as understanding the present and the vectors (well the direction of movement they have anyway) of stuff (ideas, actions and events) at play and how that applies to what is happening in the world right now.

All those divination systems (tarot, maths etc) work the same I reckon. They break reality up into discernible bits then try and create meaning out of the interplay of those bits. The I Ching has 64 hexagrams that can move or change, depending on the reading so all up 128 potential bits of info about what is happening, including a relationship if the reading has moving or changing lines.

If you are into this stuff then you have to have a wholistic worldview. One some level everything is connected. The whole point of the ritual is to get you into a frame of mind where you are connected to the univerbal Tao or some allegedly divine thing or maybe just the flow of everything after the Big Bang ... whatever it is then extract information from it in the form of a structure you can create a narrative out of. It doesn't matter what it is ultimately, God, the Tao, nothing ... its just the ability to extract info that matters.

Dunno if that makes things clearer or not. Probably not.

Thanks Ferbs this was super educational, and I'll look forward to delving into this a bit more in the future.

Look I completely agree we’ve got a right wing extremist problem in Australia but in the same breath, we cannot undermine the issue by adding in a whole heap of unrelated groups and tarring it with the same brush.

it takes away from the actual issue. Do we really think people who are mocking a government advertising and the talent attached is in anyway attached to groups like the patriot front?

it’s actually a dangerous narrative.

Evans has gone all MAGA. Typically, he rejects mainstream media but EDUCATE YOURSELF BY WATCHING THIS campaigner ON YOUTUBE WHO THINKS CLIMATE CHANGE IS BULLSHIT. He's not an extremist, just a grifter.

Yeah Evans understands there’s money to be made but what chance do you think he is of going to the Ukraine to start the Intermarium?

anyone who starts trying to link conspiracy heads, to the dangerous group above, probably needs to get a little perspective, most of the old conspiracy heads come from the anti war movement, the above come from a very different place.

Although it’s cute that the government is grouping all the antiestablishment types together.. I can see why they’re doing it.
What’s also cuter all the bites it’s getting in the media..
