keep this in mind your mob paid overs for Brad Hill last season.I reckon the Crows shot themselves in the foot by threatening to match.
The Saints may have been willing to offer say $750k x 5 if it was as a FA. But, with the Crows threatening to match then the Saints probably thought "well if we have to trade for him (ie if it doesn't hit band 1) then we are only willing to pay $600pa."
In other words, at $600k, I suspect the Saints are happy to trade
You paid overs for him both in that 5-6 year deal at $900,000 a year and in picks and players too.
I didn't think Hill is the worth $900,000 a year. Definitely worth $650,000 a year though. But you had to pay overs for him to move interstate.
On the other hand, Lets talk about Brad Crouch

Again lets see what the saints offered to him: a 4-5 year deal at $600,000 a year. Sounds fair. He is a solid player. Not elite, but definately helps the saints midfield.
funny how this time last year, rumours of geelong offering Brad Crouch

If Saints were offering crouch a 4-5 year deal at $800,000 a year, then the crows would of got pick 2 as compensation.
I can understand why the Saints only offered crouch $600,000 a year. Its was more about getting an experienced mid at a reasonable price. Had nothing to do with satisfying the crows with pick 2.
I am not a wine drinker. lol.Bloody hell mate, with the Adelaide jibes as well. Come on, it's alright. The wine is good and the beer is cold.
