Free Agency Brad Crouch [joins St Kilda as a RFA for pick 23]

My understanding is that if we match, then the PSD is off the table. If that is not the case, I am willing to be corrected.

That isn’t the case.

If you match, then crouch is just like any other uncontracted player (e.g. Hately), except for one difference:
- he has a contract offer from the Adelaide crows that is valid for 7 days.

If it’s matched, what is the vibe?

a) he accepts immediately
b) he tries to get a trade done, with accepting the matched offer as a backup
c) he doesn’t accept the matched offer under any circumstances
C. He will get to his destination. Just will take a bit longer.

I know Jack Martin was a different case, but the point is still the same. They risks getting less or nothing/paying more, so players don't get what they want so easily. Both are cases of clubs standing their ground, regardless of the different circumstances. Clubs don't care how a player wants to leave, as long they don't think they can just easily walk to wherever they want without any hassle. And I'm sure the relationships aren't always easily repaired. Even if it is repaired, it makes the player have to put in more effort to earn respect back.
I wasn't disregarding what you were saying, as there is merit in what you are saying. All I was saying is that if Brad does stay at the club, then is doesn't have to be a problem in the long run. I do agree that initially there will be issues, but they can be overcome, Tom Papley being an example of this. Though, like you are saying, the risk of all the issues you mentioned are increased somewhat.

Do have to wonder if Crouch's suspension for being caught with possession affected the outcome of the Compo ?
Also I think a trade will get done, if only for the fact the Crows don't want Crouch and his contract on their books for the next few years.

And yes, he is worth St Kilda Ponying up their First round pick for him

Doesn't it mean, there is a forced trade period, and if an agreement cannot be reached, he goes to the PSD?

Crows will match. Crouch won’t be playing for saints next year. It’s looking more likely he stays now. Also I can see Suns or Roos come in late now.

Is it worth a 5 year deal and a 1st round pick though?

I think it comes down to what Crouch really wants.

If he is happy to stay at Adelaide, he accepts the Adelaide contract and there should be no issues.

I think there is only a problem if he really wants to go St Kilda. And Adelaide are just matching to get pick 15 rather than pick 23. Because the pick upgrade does not seem worth the drama.

Thanks for that. No problem.

I think he will get to St Kilda eventually, but it will take longer than both clubs would have liked. We have to match as we have already stated that we expect band 1 compensation for losing Brad, which it appears to will not happen.

Be interested if another club got involved i.e. Essendon.

If essendon or any other club were going to get involved that would have already happened by now and he would have nominated them.

Reality is they didn't eclipse the saints offer because they didn't feel he was worth what the saints were offering

It's over punters. Time to go to another thread.

The Crows bluffed their best, but Simon Lethlean with his big hairy balls just showed another amateur operator how it's done.

Honestly it was a pathetic song and dance from the AFC, and had they just STFU they might have had the opportunity to swing a deal.
But no, they attracted the media attention with their chest beating and scuppered any avenue for negotiation. Idiots.

I reckon the Saints are bluffing. Crows will match and a trade will get done for pick 17. If Crouch is worth 600k a year, he's worth giving up pick 17 for.

If the Saints flat out refuse to trade for him, it would be a good way of ensuring that no restricted free agent ever signs for them again.

Never thought we'd get pick 2, then the last few days it was being talked that we were so I was up, now it's back to what I thought all along, no one, even St.Kilda are coughing up that much over that many years for an injury prone midfield accumulator who doesn't really hurt the opposition.

We know Brad's not worth anything like the amount needed to get Band 1, we were just hoping beyond hope that Saints were stupid enough to do it.

Reckon Saints are looking at the fire sale Treloar instead.

Big test for Crows hierachy now as to what they do. Should just cut our losses, take the pick and move on without the Brad distraction. We are building a nice draft hand we can do deals with.
