Hamill - further knee problems

You his manager? You know what he earns? I'm a St Kilda member, and I don't. Obviously you have better contacts at my club that I do ... .
600 K is on the money.

That's what it took to get to him leave the club he barracked for as a kid and join a rabble such as St Kilda.

Tell that to the other 41 players on the list who have to make salary cap room for him.

Isn't it 38? And juggling salary cap room is what all clubs have to do; we are no different. Didn't Buckley not play for the best part of a season with his hammy problems in 2005? Did you want your money back then? You reckon Richmod should ask Coughlan for some money back? The Bullies and Darcy? It's the same issue, whatever the length of the contract.

Hamill's contract was offered and signed well before this bour of knee problems. Injuries are a fact of AFL life. Part of the justification for larger salaries is to compensate for the prospect of injury.

Nah, he just needed Big Jack to pyss all over him in public. No doubt it's good to see Jack back at the club again ... 100% class that man, unfortunately all low.

Rabble? Pot .. kettle .. black. Speaking of black, we're in it. Can't say the same for you ... :D

it's always a shame to see a good player cut down by injury.

hamill was highly prized when he came from carlton; was he carrying injuries when he arrived at st. kilda? if so, perhaps the 5 year deal (presumably heavily back-loaded?) was probably a big mistake. you'd hope it was pay for play...

This is hardly a shock. Hard for the Saints to be competitive until they exit the crocks and get their fitness regime right. 2007 is a "rebuilding" year I'm afraid.

IIRC it was originally a four year deal, and StKilda wanted him to take a paycut. He refused so they agreed instead to pay him the same money in total but increase the term by one year, to lower the cap pressure that way. Good deal for Hamill, he still gets megabucks and gets the security of remaining on an AFL list an extra year.

StKilda forgot to take into account the possibility that his body might not hold up that long, and now its all coming home to roost.

I estimate that you have watched 2 AFL games in your life.

Let's see.......2005 AFL Grand Final, and.........2006 Grand Final !!

Close to the mark ?

well i sure as fk havent watched hamill in any st kilda finals

also how many times has he kicked over 50 in a season?

Bad news for Arron, sad to see a player as good as him cut down early, although it seems to have made some so-called sports fans on here happy:o
Anyway he has been fantastic for us and hopefully for all real sports fans he will overcome this and get back on the track soon.:) :thumbsu:

Yep, if this so called 'hard' man had played the ball he would not be in so much trouble. Up there with Mercuri as the great 5 year deals in AF>

Still at least they can blame Thomas.

The difference between Mercuri and Hammil is that Mercuri actually played about 10 seasons of quality consistent football whereas Hammill has barely had a handful.

Perhaps he should take his wallet out of his pocket during training so that there won't be so much stress on that side.

That 5 year deal came at a time when everyone was bagging the Mercuri and Holland deals so why it was put on the table is mindblowing.

At least those guys got on the park.

The Hamil deal will hurt the saints for a few years to come.

meh, you win some you lose some. We got a lot out of Hamill in the first couple of years when we were a team of kids and he carried more of the leadership role than he probably should have had to do. It's a real shame he can't get out there now that we're more competitive but arthroscopes aren't season ending so who knows when he'll be back. His presence is always welcomed.

And for all those bagging our supposed salary cap pressure, name me anyone worth fighting for who has been forced to walk in the past 3 years due to salary cap pressure.

concur mercuri was an absolute jet between 1993-1999

2 flags, all australian best and fairest

absolute gun, his game in 1999 in the final v sydney was incredible

great skills, great overhead

brilliant career

to compare hamill to mercuri is an absolute embarrassment

You've lost three ruckmen in a short space of time because you didnt have enough money to either keep them or replace them with something better. For example you replaced Knobel with Ackland for one reason alone - because he was cheaper. You lost Heath Black.

Your VFL team is the worst in the competition - you have no depth because your cap is top-heavy and you cant afford back-up players, hence topping up with rejects like McGough.

Dont kid yourself. Hamill is a millstone around your neck, and is causing considerable cap pressure, both direct and indirect.

Timmy please keep your posts slightly factual, Black had nothing to do with our cap, Knobel was a dud and Ackland wanted more than what he was worth. Poor effort mate:o
