5 year deal that apparently ramps up at the back end. Unless the pies can contribute every year it’s going to get ugly. The star young blokes we drafted are as good as Treloar. Some team (probably bloody Essendon) will throw cash at them we can’t match if we bring him in on that money.

Where is the source that the contract ramps up at the back end???

From everything said in the media his original contract was massively back ended so Collingwood negotiated with him to extend his contract and spread the money out across the extension.

Everything said in the media has been that the original contract was back ended not the extension. so if there is a source for the extension being back ended I would love to see it.

Do we target Treloar if Dunks stays put? We’re already struggling to give everyone midfield minutes and if anything that probably lowers his value again next year. But if Treloar really is as cheap as we think then it’s still a good opportunity and we have to look past next year and if Dunks leaves anyway then we still have Treloar for another 4 or so years. Interesting times personally I dunno what to do 😂 I think I only want Treloar if Dunks goes and I think I’d rather that at this stage but I can’t see Dodo coming to the party so I think he stays. Powers really got his work cut out either way next week. Really intriguing to see how he handles this.

If Dunks goes and we don't get Merrett, then it all depends on:
  • His contract and what the Pies pony up over the course of the deal.

  • Whether we can renegotiate it.

  • In terms of draft capital, how cheap he'll be (2nd Rd pick or we won't bite).

  • Whether the deal will be separate to Dunks (has to be).

I'd love him bursting away from our packs, even if he is bombing it blindly into our 50; if he gets it in quick, then I feel that, with Martin, we'll have English up there more, plus with Marra, our marking firepower will be licking their lips.

So are these ‘agreements’ actually allowed or is it straying into draft tampering territory?

It is a gentleman's agreement wink wink say no more they just tell us who they are taking not why they are forgoing a certain player or we wait to draft night
and do it after their first pick.

There would be nothing signed. Call it a gentleman’s agreement if there is one. Obviously Adelaide can then renege. However doing that sours any trading relationship going forward which isn’t the best idea.

If it could be proven it might get a bit hairy but it’s almost impossible to prove. It would only really look weird if we had a way better offer for the pick but dealt with Adelaide for unders instead. FWIW I don’t think they bid anyway regardless of any pick swaps
Agreed. We always hear pre draft that a bid is coming early but they generally slide compared to when most think a bid will happen. Cal Twomey was saying he thinks a bid will come at pick 4.

Typically it's a gentleman's agreement. Nothing is formally agreed to but it's at least implied and pulling a fast one on the agreement is a good way to ruin a trading relationship.

Excited about the Martin signing (if that happens as reported). English will be hard to contain for opposition sides playing forward / ruck without being spent playing majority ruck against bigger bodies.

Martin's real value will be during preseason and week to week as English will be training with a ruckman who is still in the game and is a mature body.

And when Martin does ruck in games he will soften up the opposition ruck for English.

Underrated point, even if he’s lost a yard Martin is still a huge, physical unit. Atm poor Timmy starts behind the 8ball against most rucks and as the game goes on hes just getting battered and tires whereas the oppo ruck is coming up against the likes of Dunkley and just cruising, while usually having a back up too

Treloars contract really worries me. Especially in these uncertain times. I like him, I think he changes our midfield dynamic but we’ve got other holes to fill more urgently. If we’re dealing with the Pies, I’m hoping Stephenson is our first target.

I guess it all comes back to how desperate the Pies are to get rid of Treloar. Low draft pick? Pay a big chunk of his huge back ended deal?

Absolutely no to merrett he is a free agent next year if we want him then is the time to have a crack not just trade dunkley for him, in a perfect world we get the future first this years first trade future 2nd for treloar and get merrett next year , I think this is unlikely but stranger this have happened and its actually possible
