DRAFT PROJECTION: Late-Rookie

That's what AFL draft central had him at - hence why barely any of us had heard of him...and we gave up a Future 1st in a stronger draft for him.

Don't care what anyone says, this is not a good move, and I can see a Lang, Thurlow, Smedts, scenario happening here. Other clubs might have been interested, but he's an athlete and a development player - not a footballer. That's why he should have gone later

Refer you to #7261....a heap of clubs interested....he was never going much further so we nabbed him...

For a start next years draft is laden with talent. Most "experts" think that there is a full round of talent difference between this year and next year. Secondly there is no guarantee that we may fall away if we get a bad run of injury. Thirdly, is a speculative kid worth trading out a first round pick in an apparently great draft for? Not me that's the overnight expert.

Every year is laden with talent... but if I ask the average BigFooty.com poster name 10 blokes they can’t wait to see... I’d see a lot of blank faces I bet. As for speculative picks... everything after Pick 10 is for me.

Little known Victorian Max Holmes is poised to be one of the shocks of the top 25 after gaining interest from multiple AFL clubs.

Foxfooty.com.au understands Richmond (Pick 17), Melbourne (Pick 18 and 19), St Kilda (Pick 21) and Hawthorn (Pick 24) are among the clubs eyeing-off the dashing midfielder at the pointy end of the draft, despite the Melbourne Grammar product being virtually unseen on the football field.
Ok this answers my question from a couple of posts ago, seems like he might not have made it to pick 30-odd. Fair enough.

It's only posted once, and just marked as a sticky note to stay at the top of each page - no excuse for people to not read it and say they didn't know there was a warning should they step out of line & be infracted

Clearly with the new rules around interchange rotations clubs are looking for high endurance players and holmes is certainly that..i think we didnt want to risk melbourne taking him as they were linked at 21.

I wonder if we honestly thought someone else was going to take this kid before our next pick. I'm not one to get upset about selecting x or y player because the truth is the draft is a lottery but trading up to get a player we didn't need to trade up for is always frustrating.
saints and dees reportedly wanted him

The guy we picked doesn't scream instant gratification to me. Seems like an attempt to pick the future athlete, just hope he can kick a football.

He definitely can just has some physical development to do.
