Blitz will be playing down back next year. Tsapatolis is a massive project player who probably won't even be in senior calculations for 2-3 years at best, so Fort and Stanley might've been moved on by then anyway.

I find it strange that for years folks have been asking for the club to draft a young ruckman to develop, but now we have, plus put a speculative pick on our Category B rookie list who could potentially play the same position it's suddenly a mistake.

To be fair I was only asking for one not two. He definitely looks a good choice too. Nothing wrong with him or the selection he was taken at, I just hope he can play a key pos.

I think stevens is more a running defender and maybe even a mid.

Lord was always a rookie pick as a project player...if anything he went earlier than i expected.

Not completely surprised we traded into the first round considering it was a draft where teams no doubt had very different evaluations and risk tolerance. We’ll know in 2-3 years who got it right.

A little surprise we didn’t leave a list spot for the mid-season draft. IMO that was a strategic mistake. IMO we should not have re-signed Narkle or Guthrie.

Happy enough with the type of players we drafted. A winger to succeed Smith/Higgins, a sorely needed developmental ruck, and an attacking defender with a penetrating kick. We might have plenty of defenders his size but only Stewart provides any sort of attack.

I can understand why we kept zuthrie as we have no genuine defensive smalls aside from bews who is 28 and FA and MOC. And we lack class on the outside so narkle may have a future. They may bust but giving them 12 months to find out was reasonable. If we were going to delist another player then jenkins was clearly the one that should have gone..will retire in 12 months and we would need to have a big injury list next year for him to get a game. Yes i know he was contracted. If we get a long term injury before round 11 we can have a mid season draft pick anyway.

There will the retrospective wise ones ..who will say ..see why didnt we draft billy bob.. its rare that we cough up and get hung up on the players we liked that fail. Lord is a player id not have minded at geelong but he is like many in that respect.

List sizes reducing etc... I think it would be difficult to know exactly where we are . I feel sorry for the kids who have been chopped this year like Tarca and Kenn... before they have had a solid go..imo but circumstances have been overlayed... and in respect to Lord... if we bring him in , would it signal that we question the future of Kruger? In a way thats already happened as I dont see Kreuger as a Hawkins replacement.. can he get in and play in the next year or two. If not then .. he probably will not be on the list when we need him

WE must have some sort of plan , a list build with some sort of plan. Lord might have been a good add but where does he develop for the next two or three years. FF, CHF? I will feel better about making commentary on that sort of thing when we see some VFL again.. as it is having Fort and our two kids with be three tall players, add Kruger and probably Sdek ..not to forget JJ ( who probably is the player that is PnP if Hawkins fell over for what ever reason)

For me ..its simply if Hawkins is fit JJ doesnt play..but of Hawkins is out for any extended time then he could play.

Small Defender ...WE need to convert a mid into a small def player.. like Atkins. He like pressures etc.. try him there. Someone with some meat on the bones , if not him in backline ..does he gets game as a mid or has other gone past him. Another who id not mind trying would be Brownless , I suspect he could add some run from the backline ..but it would be a change to ask him to mind someone but it could mean a future for him.

Brhun doing the rounds to try dampen his draft night reaction..... I had no problem with him not doing his version of a Toyota add when picked... gees go to a funeral not everyone is the same..and we all react differently. Only he and those close to him woul know what he was thinking .. perhaps he was hoping for Collingwood ..he certainly knew Geelong and Wes Coast was way off the boards

I like the interview with the GWS guy on SEN yesterday when asked about Perkins , in that players may have certain attitudes at the start but after a while they acclimatise and most become happy where they are ... I suspect we may find its difficult to move a happy Ollie Henry if he gets used to a black and white world.

fair point but transfer that to the players they picked. If they had no been so belligerent then maybe they could have had a better hand with an. extra comp pick.. Anyway ... I still maintain that the aflpa should be going hard to change the system...yet hard have heard boo. Geelong paid a heap for a player that had severed over the 8 years required for a FA.. its only a discriminate rules that means good players are discriminated against that meant he was not a player that could walk

AFL and club cost cutting mean this is going to be the way it is now.

Definately. That's Sport's Marketing 101. Covid has made many things far more dificult but a simple zoom session with each of these tech savvy young men shouldn't be at all difficult.

Just watched Holmes “highlights” from that 1 game. And boy oh boy I surely hope that was a terrible game and not an indication of what we will get for a first round pick. Lost, turnovers, no presence, no use of speed or anything. Seemed clean below his knees but based on that 3 min clip, what I saw was undraftable attributes.

Yes...they took a long time and a heap of discussion before picking him....

I think they went with the maximum potential ceiling and that they had seen him for a week - as opposed to a rooke they hadn't had the experience with....

It clearly was a line ball call.

Very harsh mate. Playing game 1 in a new team he barely trained with as a bottom ager. On a HFF as well. Remember this was almost 18 months ago. He has also grown 12 cm since then.

With all that he still got more touches that game than last years first round pick Miles Bergman. Hardly a day for outside runners either!

Whilst his lightening speed didn’t stand out as an outside mid he got to very good spots. He also has game sense as he had a number of give an go’s.

I can definitely see what they like in he and especially Neale. He looks an incredible prospect that just keeps improving. His best game was his last in the state game.

Who am I to judge but Im far less convinced on Stevens based on those clips only. He never had an opponent nor made any type of physical contact outside of the ‘easy tackles’. All possies seem uncontested. Rarely intercepted and he looked like a 34 yr old Harry Taylor when the ball was loose on the ground. His certainly didn’t look agile. He does seem to kick it well. Lots of very windy and wet days obviously in 2019.

Obviously very confident Cats were taking him. Mates were ready to go nuts before they read his name out, one even had a Cats indigenous guernsey on. I like this pick even more now. Sounds like a genuine targeted player.
