I dont really have a favourite team so this is easy for me 🄳 But would anyone really support their existing club over a Tasmanian team? Personally I couldnt understand going for a mainland team over Tasmania but I think a lot of thee older generations will still support their existing club but have Tassie as like a second team.

I think its hard to drop the team you've loved for a long time for a new team... im sure some might ... im sure tassie will bring in a new legion of fans too... When the suns come in... a lot of their fans would be critical of ppl for still supporting another team... some still are

Close second for me. Grew up in Tassie but from Perth as a kid so I don't think I could ever give up on WCE.

Been fairly anti Tassie getting a team over the years. Not because I didn't want them to have one but rather due to the fact that it'd be tricky deciding where to base them plus the viability of the team in general. Tasmanians are incredibly lazy to travel, so I could see crowds potentially dying off long term. Mind you, more games against a range of sides, especially bigger Vic clubs, will probably pump the crowd size, plus the mainlanders travelling to more games would significantly boost the economy.

Having said that, now that it looks like a real possibility I'm pretty excited to see Tassie hopefully get their own team.

I live in the north and i think it is an easy decision to base the team in Hobart.

Yeah but York Park is so much better than Bellerive. Not sure a team would want to travel 2 and a half hours each way on game day to be honest.
I think part of the deal of getting a new team would be to upgrade the facilities in Hobart...

If they do that then that's fine. It'd make more sense to base the team in Hobart, even if the crowds would likely be larger if played in Launceston due to the population distribution across the north.

I can't imagine a bunch of highly paid young footy players would want to hit up the saloon, or Irish Murphy's, all too often..

The population is not greater across the North as some imagine. Its around 50/50.

Hobart is growing greater than any other part of the state.

However, that won't make any difference to the need for the team to be based in Hobart, but play 1/2 the games at York Park.

Bellerive, although a good stadium, is a bugger to get to. That even puts Hobart people off going.

The team has to mandate a certain number of games are played in the North or it won't grab the entire state's interest. The second it's seen as a Southern thing, the North won't touch it. Base the team's training and admin in Hobart, sure, but in an era where they'll be making 11+ trips on a plane every year anyway and they're all on six figures as full professionals, a few bus trips up the road won't hurt them...

If the team is stand alone and represents the state without a regional bias, a dark green two headed mainland mashing monster, then I'd ditch the Hawks. I'd say thanks for your service, Hawthorn, you've been great for the last forty something years, but this is how it's meant to be. And wgaf, it's not a marriage...

Good for supporters, but how long before the players get sick of traveling?

16/17 weeks out of 22.

Given the traffic, do Geelong get sick of travel to the MCG, or the airport?

Given the Traffic do GWS get sick of travel to Canberra or even to the airport?

WCE, Freo have huge travel requirements.

Cricket, Aleague, NBL all travel. ie would illawarra get sick of the 90minute trip to Sydney airport then fly?

One way or the other, travel 'sickness' is a question they all have.

Umm, does this post have an answer or just more questions?

Going on WA supporters, travel is really really bad.;)

Seems to me without answering the question, your answer is no, they won't care?

Thats about it. :)

Travel is part of what professional sports people do. They generally get well paid & they love to play in front of crowds.

I guess they'd learn a few card games for their frequent travels. ;)
