The talk on radio is that Lyon and Sayers had been in conversation for some time and had even reached discussion about contract terms.

Sayers informed Lyon yesterday that there will now be a detailed selection process for all candidates, including him.

Lyon responded today that he would not be involved in the process and would not seek the job.

Carlton getting a rookie coach would be keen now after sacking Teague. They aren't in a position where they can develop a coach for a few years, it's very different to Collingwood who are starting a rebuild.

I reckon the Pies have got it spot on getting McRae. The only former coach I’d consider if I was the Blues is Clarkson.

Maybe we have dodged a bullet with Lyon pulling out ??

He was my choice for the gig but if he didn't want to go through the process to get the job then maybe he wasn't the right person anyway.

We have a list that, with the right coach pulling the levers, has every chance to be a contender reasonably quickly.

Lyon wanted to "get that silverware" and should have seen this is a great opportunity to do so.

Thing is, he won't get another senior coaching job ever again now.

Don't worry, your "thumbs down" from Carlton posters are coming.

It's a bit crazy I think. Maybe Ross Lyon decided it wouldn't be worth the stress on his mental health and personal life that will undoubtedly come when the club capitulates around him? I can only assume Teague and his cries for more support from the incompetent board and footy department didn't go unheeded.

I'm not convinced Clarko is out of the picture tbh in any case Carlton should be looking at assistants still involved in the finals which could drag it out.
