Yep, his best 2 games were in finals last year. His rundown tackle on Bont was super important too.

I doubt they’d be starting 22 for a while when we have quite a few youngsters like Connolly, Bytel, Byrnes and Sharman ( Allison?) still very inexperienced but showing that they need and deserve game time. They will get games beforehand new players we bring in.

I like to have one open spot in the 22 for a look at a development player. Assuming every other spot in the 22 is a player who will be a guaranteed contributer the last one should go to a new player or a player being experimented with. Once you've played a bit you move out of the gifted category and then need to compete with the senior players for spots. Sharman off the back of his debut performances doesn't need to be gifted games to develop, he's already good enough to push senior players out of the side on merit alone and therefore should be treated as such. Bytel, Connolly, Alison should probably be in that free game spot alongside the new draftees. I think Byrnes had enough game time and consistency that we saw he's good enough to roll with the big boys. He's competing with Ross, Billings, Clark for a spot. I do think however that the first round drafted mid gets an automatic place at the front of the line of the gifted spot.

Players like Coffield and Clark are now old enough that they don't get the gifted spot either, they're directly competing with other players directly in their position.

Richardson had a hiding to nothing with the players he had , when Lethlean came in the cull started but Richardson's time was over.
If you have the cattle you can win games even if you are a average coach - he had enough time but recruiting during his time was horrendous as well.

Any player who thinks they should be playing seniors and are not would not be saying anything glowing about the coach , it's just sour grapes. Instead they should just shut up and produce it on the track like McKenzie and Dunstan.

I agree. Only a couple players don't need to prove their spot in the side. Ryder, King, Steele and Marshall. No matter their form I back those players to be able to turn it around in a match. The others have to prove themselves.
