Sav would be a slower, worse version of Blicavs in defence IMO

And that's putting it mildly. Blitz is well-regarded across the comp as a KPD who is rarely beaten 1v1. The notion that you're going to replace him back there with a player that has no experience whatsoever in that part of the ground (and lacks true proficiency in the role he plays now) is simply wild optimism at its best.

I understand we have holes in the backline and need another tall key back I see most if not all want SDK back there, I liked his one game as a ruck forward and would be happy to see him develop in that role but what would you do with Sav he doesn't appear versatile enough to move about at this stage and 11 goals from 15 games is not setting the world on fire as the 2nd or 3rd tall and when he brings the ball to ground we haven't had the smalls to take advantage.Bad timing to be losing Freddy his train may have just pulled into the station.
During our last handful of VFL games they moved SDK back to defence and gave Neale a run up forward - both guys played their best matches across the season when they switched which end of they ground they played

Based on how SDK went when played in defence, I'd hope they give him an extended run in that role because it really is an area we're more desperate for the next generation to come through rather than up forward

I dont think the club has locked him into playing defence, considering hes hardly played there at all since we drafted him, not sure how people think hes going to immediately slot into the role at senior level to be honest, quick way to set a bloke up to fail.

As things stand, Kreuger has an enormous opportunity to play stacks of games at Geelong in the coming years if he is prepared to hang around. If he instead decides that he is so committed to playing forward that he walks to the Pies, that is entirely on his head.
Strange as I thought we recruited Kreuger as a defender and SDK as a forward ,

Is he absolutely committed to leaving?

Strange as I thought we recruited Kreuger as a defender and SDK as a forward ordinally.

I thought Kreuger came as a forward option, primarily. Certainly played there in the early days in the VFL.

Dek appeared to be much more of a fluid prospect when he arrived. But I really like the look of him playing in the back half. Moves well, marks the footy himself, and then has the capability to get the ball going the other way with some penetrating kicking. Also didn't much like the look of his goal-kicking, on the rare occasions I've seen him take some shots. Looks like a very natural KPD for mine. And it's an area where the club is really looking to find long-term locks for the future now as well. Settle him in and take the slings and arrows as they come, I say.

Certainly hope not. The opportunity to really cement himself in the side at Geelong is absolutely massive right now. Given how the back half of 2021 played out, a spot in the seniors would almost be his to lose, going into Round 1 next year.

He did but the club change them when they come to the club, like Taheny they played him back and he was a forward

I have sympathy with the policy in some cases. But I just don't understand why everyone needs to go through this same development pathway. Not that I'm sure Taheny was coming on, anyway, but he looked completely wasted in the back half to me. When players have such demonstrably advantageous skillsets for particular roles in the team, I just see so little is gained when they are shoehorned into positions that will very likely never suit their best attributes for footy.

If we can get in a ruckman like ladahms to be our second ruck. I would tell Krueger you can play half forward if you are in form.

I think We need a second ruck that isn’t Blitz- but if we have one i would love to see Esava play four qtrs ruck at vfl to develop and I am a big Esava fan

It sounds like it but maybe matching Collingwood's contract would turn his head. Playing as a defender shouldn't put him off if he's smart because I really don't think he's going to make it as a forward.

Would be sort of funny and typical of Geelong if the coaching staff backed in Kolo and Zuthrie to play taller going into the era of monster forwards, after playing a very tall backline for years in the era of less tall forward domination. Often inexplicably years off the pace of where the rest of the competition's head's at under Scott (undervaluing pressure forwards as the competition started to revolve around forward pressure, moving to an exaggerated form of Hawthorn's gameplan years after they were successful with it, etc)

Surely Ladhams isn't coming to play second ruck. He's already got that job where he is now.

Hed have just as much opportunity at Collingwood if not more and has the security of a long term deal, really a no brainer for a guy thats almost 23.

Thoughts…
If Dal goes and clark and Krueger and brownless do as well I wouldn’t mind him on the list as an inside mid

Despite being contracted until 2023, it’s hard to see Rhys Mathieson fitting into Brisbane Lions' best 22 next year.

Mathieson has played just nine, one and eleven games in the past three seasons and a fresh start could do him the world of good if a club is looking to trade in some midfield depth.

Mathieson has struggled to crack into the Lions midfield with the likes of Lachie Neale, Dayne Zorko, Jarryd Lyons, Hugh McCluggage and Mitch Robinson keeping him out.

There’s no doubt the 24-year-old has potential, but he might have more luck finding an inside midfield role at somewhere like Fremantle or Essendon.

Can you be the barometer for more than one side? I recall a few run-with roles he played on Selwood and totally got under the skipper's skin. That's about as good as it gets for him.

Patrick Naish worth having a look at, finds the ball, uses it quite well, cheap successor to Isaac Smith.

Age reporting it like it was news...

At the same time the club flew out for finals he returned home to Ireland for the first time in a couple of years - been here throughout covid

I wonder if he hadn't fully decided on his future at that stage but once home and around family he decided that's where he wanted to be

Other way around..kreuger was a fwd pre draft..sdk was a mid all the way through juniors then kpd in his draft year once he grew in height late on.
