Lucas (Fort manager)saying he is looking for more opportunities elsewhere but are respectful its geelongs call if he stays or not (as hes contracted).
Potentially gives us a little more leverage in regards to where he is rated pick wise (still being contracted). Maybe something in the 40s? It also mentioned Brisbane were not the only ones sniffing around.

Hey Cats fans,

Draft Experts eDPS, ModernArtillery, Pie 4 Life and PMBangers recently took part in a phantom draft for the draftcast! feel free to listen and direct all criticisms to the draftcast thread, specifically PMBangers who selected for you

If Carlton's pick falls our way (Clark)... Conner McDonald all day every day. Be a steal if he dropped that far.
Ned Long instead of Blake Howes.
Brown & Murley i wouldn't say no to, but with Conway still available we'd be silly not to take with our last pick IMO.

At his age 40s is a bit much. 51 or 57 (brisbanes last picks) or a late future pick i imagine.

Looks like Darcy has found the magical fountain of youth:

GEELONG'S thin ruck stocks could take another hit with Brisbane one of the clubs coming for Darcy Fort.

The 26-year-old Fort is considering his options after failing to break through for a game this season and playing only eight matches since making his debut in 2019.

Fort had issues with his right knee throughout the pre-season but even after returning to fitness the Cats preferred to play the versatile Rhys Stanley, Mark Blicavs and Esava Ratugolea in the ruck.

"Darcy, we're looking at opportunities for him. He's contracted so if Geelong say no, then they say no,” player manager and former Essendon star Scott Lucas told Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.

"But if a club are open to a discussion elsewhere and it can work for both parties then we're always looking to explore."

I love absolutely everything about this article (make it happen already Cats, Stew's time is now!)

- Stewart knows there's others that want him to have the captaincy and doesn't shy away from it :whitecheck:

- Stewart wants the captaincy :whitecheck:

- Stewart back running and feeling no ill effects of injury :whitecheck:

"Stewart puts hand up for Geelong captaincy
GEELONG defender Tom Stewart has acknowledged he has aspirations to one day captain the Cats following his breakthrough Carji Greeves Medal win on Thursday night.

But Stewart says he will not seek out the leadership title or change the way he approaches the game in order to become the skipper of the club.

The 28-year-old is on track to be right for day one of pre-season following Lisfranc surgery and has long been spoken about as a potential replacement whenever Joel Selwood steps down from the captaincy – a position he has held since 2012 – and admitted it would be a dream to lead Geelong should the opportunity present itself.

“Do I have aspirations to captain the Geelong Football Club? I think would be lying if I said I didn’t, I think every boy wants to be seen as captain of any footy club, let alone an AFL footy club,” Stewart said.

“I understand that Joel won’t be around forever and that someone will need to step up and fill that void, whether that is myself, Mitch Duncan, Mark Blicavs, Mark O’Connor, it could be Jack Henry or it could be any number of people, I believe. If my name is put up there and the group believes I am the right person to do that role I will give it everything I have got.

“Do I see myself as a leader? Not really, I am not the ‘jump on my back and follow me’ sort of leader, but I like to have good relationships and play good footy because the best leaders play good footy and I like to think I have been a consistent performer in my last five years.

“It is a hard question because I would be living under a rock if I hadn’t heard it a lot but it is not something where I am going to change the way I go about it to try to seek that title out. If it is for me, the group will vote me in, if not, I will still support whoever that is.

“I still believe I have got a lot to give in that space, whether it is with the title of captain or vice-captain or simply in the leadership group – or, not at all.”

Stewart has been running and kicking the football since Geelong returned from Perth following its finals exit and said he was rebuilding his body in order to be right for the return of pre-season training.

“I was back running and kicking the footy and doing basic change of direction the Thursday before the prelim,” he said.

“Things didn’t go my way and I took last week off. I’ve started running again, I went for a run (Thursday) morning and had a little kick by myself, and I’m going really well.

“There is no soreness, no pain. It is just a matter of rebuilding the body back up and getting myself ready for day one of pre-season.”

Interesting that he didn't name Dangerfield

Dunno enough about Talia but if he can mark the ball and match up against the bigger forwards then we probably have to look at him now that Hendo is gone. Simple fact is you need defenders who can mark the ball in todays game, can read the play, have good game awareness, and arent afraid of kicking the ball. Simply manning up and spoiling the ball is not enough. This is why Blicavs is a liability and should not be considered as a replacement option for Hendo at all, he simply does not have the skills to play as a modern key defender. Without a proper replacement for Hendo we will have to play Stewart as a more "stay-at-home" defender which is a waste of his talent and kills our set up off half back.

With SDK being a year or more away from being relevant maybe the brains on here who have more knowledge of list depth will know of an alternative to Talia we can look at if he isnt suitable? But i cannot stress enough how much of a liability Blicavs will be if he is playing as a full time key defender...Nevermind the fact that he is a liability now at whatever position he plays.

Thats simply because at 31 danger is too old and might not have many years left. Youd either pick an experienced player who has more years left (stewart or blitz..yes he is 30 but as a late starter blitz will play on years) or if its a younger player probably oconnor or henry.

It drives me nuts when basic details such as that are incorrect in articles - surely even the most basic of research would give you his age but seems it was too hard to look up

"Stewart Puts Hand Up For Geel Captaincy "

What id love that to read is - Stewart puts hand up to play in the centre on Petracca - next time Melb play Geel

What would people consider to be Ladham's worth? At 23, he could be ready to flourish if given the responsibility of being the number one ruck..

He's under contract, so that means we'd have to pay 'overs'. But how do we define overs, a first round pick which we don't have. We do have a future first, but I'd be reluctant to depart with that, as I suspect the club would be too.

If we can somehow trade-up and get back into the mid to late first round, I think we'd have to consider trading for Ladhams. I feel in the past we haven't been able to identify rucks at other clubs that have a big ceiling with future development. Some have gone on to really flourish and develop into very good players at other clubs, and I feel like we have missed out due to them not being fully established and consistent performers at their previous clubs.

I think we need to role the dice and gamble. Ladhams is a talent and has shown enough that the risk is worth taking IMO. We just need to backend the contract with all of our pending retirements in the next couple of years..

Id define overs as any draft pick we dont have currently!!!

I think other factors against it are Danger's strong focus on off-field activities and, in particular, leadership of the players' association. There's potential for a conflict of interest there (representing club v representing players as a whole). As we have seen the AFLPA presidency is a stepping stone and it does look like Danger might be someone who sees himself on that road.

Probably a first rounder in all honesty, if Preuss can go for pick 31 you're not getting a contracted 23 year old overly cheaply.
