On SEN this morning one of the commentators was saying that clubs aren't chasing inside mids any more with most after run and spread midfielders who are the fashion at the moment. Apparently the classy running mids are the ones everyone wants now. Timing doesn't seem on Lukes side and possibly why Seb Ross was retained over Luke. Luke had a better run of games but Seb has run.
For sure. Seb also has greater versatility than Dunstan who is a midfielder or bust type of guy.
I can’t see him being any more than depth at any club he goes to unfortunately

Ross also has his entire career of consistently good seasons over Dunstan too.

I feel for Dunstan. He is too good to not be on an AFL list. Hopefully he can get at least a rookie spot somewhere else.

His top speed’s nothing special but I think he’s pretty quick off the mark. And due to his play style he only needs the metre or 2 of free space to get his kick off

He can definitely arch his back and power away and when he was more a small HFF at the start of his career he'd power away from trouble and swat away hands that turned into his famous don't argue.

Yes I agree he is very very sh*t.. BUT it would be quite interesting to see a forward line with both Max King and Mason Cox in it haha. Just based on height/wingspan/the ability to mark the ball at its highest point would surely be unstoppable for some of the games best defenders [emoji23][emoji23]
Wait until Ben King is added in there 😲

I remember reading about Xerri dominating in the VFL earlier in the year.

Be an interesting 1. With our NGA's, Clark, Bytel and Byrnes with Gresh coming back the club may not think we need mids as much as we do. Mac does look like he could become a gun ruck forward. Club would have a better idea tho on how they rate Heath who is also looking good.
I'm not sure we'd want two rookie ruckman on the list at the same time.

If we are chasing King I'll throw my laptop out a window if we take another tall with our first pick in the draft. In a midfielders draft you'd need to be mentally deficient to step out of those. I'm hoping GC or GWS take the talls out of our reach. Talls... especially ones that aren't quite KP sized seem to be our new HBFs.

Laptop eh? Impressive.

You’ve come a long day since the meltdown of 2014 [emoji1303]

I wish we'd just do a trade so we didn't have to talk about Dunny being better than Wines, Billings having similar stats to Petracca and whether we should have picked Petracca over Paddy
Agreed ! I understand wanting to learn from the Dees and learning from the Tiges, but wanting to clone players like the Petracca,Oliver et al gets a lot like all the girls wanting to have Barbie like bodies until one just comes along defying all the cliches and blows everyone away. I'm looking forward to when we stop coveting other teams players, styles and decisions and just become the unmatchable, unstoppable and devastatingly original, SAINTS. I guess its all just part of the process to the ultimate realization dawns...We have it in our own hands, we do it with what we've got....aside from the obvious tweaks that we all agonise over! ha!

Like your line of thinking.. So if no Bing, Marshall eventually moves permanent forward. Heath becomes No.1 ruck in say 2-3 years time (with chop out from Marshall).

Maybe we should have a go at Mac Andrew in the draft this year who would be a great fit in this scenario in 2-3 years time playing as 2nd Ruck/Forward with Heath. Andrew is a chance to be available at our pick and if there's no pure mids like Ward/Hobbs available Id rather see us go with Andrew than another flanker in the first round.

Could be the risk we need to take. Still get Bing at some point though..ha
I suppose so. I still see Marshall as a better forward than ruck. But if we get Bing, I struggle to see Marshall, King x 2 all together. But I might be wrong. In that instance though, I see Marshall moving to 80% ruck chop out from the King boys.

But this is just an outside perspective. Heath and Xerri/Sweet give us two cracks at a permanent ruck, but if we get Bing we can work it out down the track. Which is why I don't agree Hunter is a better option than Sweet/Xerri. They're just an option for the future and back up next year if needed.

Word is the Giants are very interested in him.

He could easily make a top 5 B&F next year at a few clubs if he played like he did when he returned this year.

Not sure they'll use our first pick on a ruck/fwd if we are definitely targetting Bing, already have Marshall and have hopes for Max Heath. Depends how they rate the chances of getting Bing in or Heath becoming a good ruck.

Similar stats... Xerri 6 years younger. Also, don't quote me on this but I believe when Xerri has been in, he's started forward a lot (despite not kicking many goals).
In every one of Xerri’s 8 games this year Goldstein also played and did what looks like the vast majority of the ruckwork.

Whereas Hunter was our no.1 ruck in the first 3 of his 7 games with us (with McKernan and Carlisle second-fiddle) and then in his last game he split it with Roma (14 centre bounce attendances to 13).

Our of curiosity would you say Dusty is one paced?

I’d say he is, he’s just strong in the contest and can go forward and kick goals. I see Hobbs as being a similar type player (obviously not as powerful as Dusty) but better defensively.
Hell no, he has power and explosiveness.

Tested 2nd fastest at his draft camp/combine, including faster than speedsters Rohan and Jetta:

20-meter sprint (seconds)
1. Ayden Kennedy 2.88
2. Dustin Martin 2.89
3. Andrew Hooper 2.90
4. Sam Reid 2.92
=5. Sam Shaw 2.93
=5. Kane Lucas
=5. Gary Rohan
=8. Lewis Jetta 2.95

Yeah for sure, this idea was based on us not getting Bing.

In the event that we're supremely confidant we can secure him for 23', then I'd be alright with:

- Xerri for future 4th Rd
- Delist poor old punter,
- Best Midfielder at #9 (11) and
- Try to secure another pick around 18 (20) to take another decent prospect (Draper, Milera, Butler, Sinn etc)
- Secure enough points via depth player trades for NGA bids.

The more I think about the happier I am to let Battle go if it nets a decent pick. He's just so far back now and actually doesn't have that many runs on the board. I'd like to keep Long personally, unless we get a top 30 pick.

St Kilda are set to land a deal for North Melbourne ruckman Tristan Xerri.
- Tom Browne, Channel 7

That all sounds pretty fair. I am by no means thinking Xerri is a star, and Hunter might a better option next year. But ideally it's Ryder and Marshall next year. Even Marshall solo when Ryder is resting. We just really got smacked this year when Marshall and Ryder were both out. Just feel Xerri is a better fit on our list right now.

You mean with arms fully extended , the commentator that came up with that stupid term needs to be bitch slapped , never seen a player jump 20 mtrs high yet

Not sure i like this as Xerri has low numbers in his seniors games this year and a huge clanger count to disposal ratio.

He was playing with Goldy doing ruck work. I heard some North supporters talking about this "Cherry" guy who was a promising ruck and worked out it was him. They have big wraps on him. One was suggesting that keeping Goldy was a mistake because Xerri has more long term upside and they were talking like he was a future star.
