Looking at a few of the recent phantoms I’m keen to trade up to secure another higher pick. Ideally Brisbane’s second but more realistically the Dog’s pick 23. Around that mark, having 2 consecutive picks, I’m confident we can secure 2 mids of good quality.

Agree with those that mention Zac Taylor - high production and has elite kicking skills. Really think he needs to be prioritized.

Knevitt and Connor MacDonald are the other two I’m particularly interested in. A tall mid that can win his own footy - tested well. And MacDonald, high production as well, wins his own footy, good skills.

They’re my 3. Whilst Brown looks a great option, I think our immediate priorities lie elsewhere just at the moment.
Someone brought up Banks 10-15 pages ago also. Looks like a nice late option for 45-48 range of our 5th pick

What are peoples thoughts on Joel end of next year? He will be offered a gig anywhere I imagine- for his sake I hope he goes external to learn but I’d have him around in development for sure- I could see him being a culture and leadership dude- mixing with the corporates but also telling the kids about not being a ****wit and wearing the hoops with pride

If I were him I’d go Gold Coast or tag along the clarko Tassie Train with Burgoyne when it rolls into the station

Well, what I hope is that by the end of next year, he'd be feeling refreshed after a year out of the game, following his realisation that he was no longer competing at the elite level that he once was...

Huh? He’s playing in 2022.

He is still a solid B grade midfielder and club will be better for having him around for the year to support the youth- If we don’t play him 22 games he may even look a bit fresher!

They should have a program of rotation resting Joel, Danger, and Duncan, and some others, to keep them fresher and fit for the finals.

If anyone can pull a last season hurrah it'll be Selwood surely??
He finished 8th in the B&F. Even a repeat of that would be worthwhile. The bottom line is we can’t be relying on him to carry the midfield. We need others to step up.

I honestly don't think Selwood's dropped off much. Still averaged 23 disposals and five clearances this year. Top 10 in the comp for goal assists, top 20 for contested possessions, clearances and tackles. I thought he had a great 2021.

Interestingly, Knightmare rates Leek Alleer as the best KPD in the draft this year after his record-breaking vertical jump. Also rates Knevitt as a round one prospect. His draft combine wrap is a good read:

No Duncan and hurt Guthrie/Danger didn't help. Should have everyone at full speed next year.

Hey friends, I'm drafting for you guys over in the BF phantom draft again this year https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2021-bigfooty-phantom-draft.1289726/#post-72650704

I've been looking into what you guys might want but I'd like to know first hand what you guys need in this draft
Inside mid, outside mid, rebound defender. Despite what I have seen in some mock drafts, Ruck is not a priority. We have Stanley, Ceglar and the two kids we took last year in Neale and Tsapolitis.

As with most fans that have never experienced the inside of a cub in detail he tends to vastly overrate big midfielders who aren't quick. When you're bigger than the other kids it's easy to stand out at junior level but it's so much harder at senior level and any athletic weaknesses get exposed.

Knevitt might be great but for every gun big midfielder at AFL level there are probably 10 who look great in the lower leagues but get exposed at the elite level. There's a reason why every year inside mids tend to go later in the draft than most expect.

Missed out on pick 27 from pies, it's gone to Tigers.

"Club sources said the Pies have traded pick 27 for the Tigers’ picks 38 and 40 in this year’s draft and their third-round pick in next year’s draft." - source

So Tigers gave up 894 points in this year's draft for 703 points, roughly an extra 200 points for the Pies plus next year's 3rd rounder. So 200-300 point upgrade is probably around the mark of what these club's are asking for.

I agree with your points on big mids, but I think Knightmare's analysis is consistent with that also. He's said Knevitt doesn't just rely on his size, as highlighted by his quick 20m sprint and 2km time trial. He also uses his height with his overhead marking, something a lot of those failed big mids don't do. My big concern with Knevitt is his kicking.

8th is pretty bad for a starting mid that played almost every game.

Parfitt didn't have a great year but would've finished ahead of Selwood with the same number of games (played one less and was injured early in one). Probably the same for Tuohy.

That's before you get to the obvious ones like Cameron, Duncan and Dangerfield that finished below him despite being better when on the field.

The stats still look good but they don't show how often he's being burnt on the spread from the contest. He's right on the edge and i don't think he can start in the centre square any more with the 666 rule. Start him on a forward flank and have him push up to be the extra midfielder.

I thought his pace was a weakness? I'm not saying we shouldn't draft him. The people making the decision will know far more than me. Just that in general big mids are overrated by fans (see Constable as exhibit A where nobody seems interested).
