As long as we get 23 it's ok. They were always going to trade up. We just need to get two picks in before they have that bunch of 3.

One piece of good news is with astbury chol ccj and garthwaite gone and riewoldt lynch and tarrant all 30 or over the tigers will have to take some talls with their picks so they are unlikely to poach all of the mids we are after.

It’s absolutely imperative we get 23 from WB.

Give them 32 + 34. That’s +311 points for them.

We take 23, 23 and 30 to try get 2 mids and Aleer. Pick 50 a speculative shot at the board.

Im not sure about alleer. His intercept marking is very good and given the lack of kpds in this draft he will get taken but his kicking is iffy so given our defence already has several average kicks in it im not sure hes the right fit for us. Id prefer dean personally.

But i like the trade up idea to get 23.

We also watched those same guys do it to Bontempelli, Macrae, Libba, etc a couple of weeks later.

For a 10 minute period where they took advantage of every chance yes. But the dogs got back into the game through clearances in the second quarter and were winning the midfield battle to midway through the 3rd. It was a tight contest that Melbourne won in the key moments but it wasn't one way traffic all night.

In comparison, 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter against us Melbourne had kicked 10.3 from clearances (out of 13.6). That was their highest score from clearance for the year barely into the second half.

The other good news is that they didn't (yet) trade with the Dogs.

Constable will be back. No-one will pick him up

I would prefer to leave our last rookie spot open and get a bunch of players in to train with us (including CC) and if he improves his endurancd markers a lot then re-list him in march. That way we keep our options open. Be interesting to see what we do.

Don’t think we will get 23. Wells will value more picks in the 30s over getting in early.

The value of back to back picks (22 and 23) shouldnt be understated though as it gives you flexibility

Next years third will be worth id say 3-400 points so pies got about 5-600 points extra total if i was rich i wouldnt have given the future 3rd as well. Collingwood did very well albeit ill be interested to see how they create the list spots to use all of those picks for a bid match.

Richmond really overvalued that pick 27 that could be a pick 30+ once all the bids go through. Collingwood are doing their best to recover after their giving pick 2 away fiasco.

I agree..i mean for them the value is in having all of 26 27 and 28 it allows you to risk more on one pick because you know who your next pick will be but still they overpaid.

The pick 2 trade by collingwood was horrendous (and shows why i hope we dont trade our future 1st this year) but their trades the last few weeks have been good.

I can’t engage with a starting premise that finishing 8th in a B&F is “pretty bad”. Utter nonsense.

How did you rate Blicavs year? 6th in the B&F. Must've had a good year. Right?

FWIW I thought he had a pretty ordinary year too. I'd say the only guys who had good years were Stewart, Henry, Hawkins, Close and Smith. Then a bunch of guys were good when fit but missed a number of games (eg: Duncan, Cameron, O'Connor and Tuohy). I wouldn't have said anyone else was better than ok.

I honestly don't think Selwood's dropped off much. Still averaged 23 disposals and five clearances this year. Top 10 in the comp for goal assists, top 20 for contested possessions, clearances and tackles. I thought he had a great 2021.
Agree Joel should go around again. The problem with our older players is that they are still asked to do too much through the year. Joel and Danger lifted us over the line a number of times through the year. As a result by the time we get to finals they are done and too banged up to do damage. We need the next rung down to step up. The problem is we do not appear to have any of those special players that have the intangible to lift a side and carry them with them coming through.

I thought his pace was a weakness? I'm not saying we shouldn't draft him. The people making the decision will know far more than me. Just that in general big mids are overrated by fans (see Constable as exhibit A where nobody seems interested).

Nope, he registered a sub-3 sec 20m sprint which is quick, especially for his size.

Fahey is super quick and a great kick from reports. Chesser and Tom Brown have similar attributes. We need one of those 3.

Wilmot could be our next full back. Is it time to start looking for Hawkin's replacement? Maybe the 2022 draft.

We don't need slow utilities who lack dash. We desperately need ball-winning ability and skill combined - Zac Taylor sounds like he fits the bill.

The fact is our mid-field is in serious decline.

I feel pretty certain that Taylor will be a bolter and gone before our first pick. The only weaknesses Knightmare could list for him are "limited scoreboard impact, unclear forward capabilities, lack of height and size", none of which are major flaws given he's 180cm. He also has him ranked at #14.

I think Alleer and maybe 1 or 2 others might bolt into the first round too. But that will mean someone like Chesser, Sonsie, Draper, or Goater could slip through.

Brander delisted "to explore other opportunities".q

Be interesting to see if we look at him as a DFA.
Given Wells comment on needing KPD depth I will be surprised if we do not chase either Schlensog or Brander as a DFA. I think though Brander though might be keener on a club that would give him opportunities to play somewhere other than defense as I think from his comments he felt he was played out of position.

So if the B&F result aligns with my view it’s good but if it doesn’t it isn’t. Got it.

I reckon it might depend who is available on the night.

Looks like our pick 50 has come in by 8 (all Pies & Dogs picks)... Pick #42 without doing a thing.
Becomes more enticing for clubs to trade for along with let's say.. Pick 32 or 34?
On another note. Interesting to see that the Tigers have 26-27-28. That is a great hand to have.
Now we see if we nab a DFA or two. That will dictate how many picks we will need.

You said:

So how did you rate Blicavs year given he finished 6th?

Looking at your recent views on him you seem to think he had a pretty bad year. Is that opinion also "utter nonsense"? Or did you think he had a good year despite all your criticism of him? Or are you being completely inconsistent?
