I really think this mooted Adelaide and Freo pick swap if it happens might establish the going rate to move up in this draft.

TDS is right, there is no way we should sell the farm. Might be a bit of a game of chicken because if their target is actually Andrew and they know they can get him at our pick, then they are wasting whatever we would give them if they take him at 2. But we should avoid a bidding war at all costs. Offer fair value and be prepared to walk away.

It might end up being a similar story to last year when we were engaged with north in convos for their pick at the cost of a second rounder (i heard this reported- the 2nd rounder which ended up as Seamus) because they were really confident they would be able to land Phillps at our pick. Not sure why the trade didn't happen, but glad it didn't because chances are we would have taken LMacdonald and DGB>>>> LMacdonald all day.

I'm going to have a guess and say that deal would involve freo moving into Adelaide's spot if Andrew is available and Adelaide shift back if Callaghan is off the board . For this to happen it wouldn't surprise me if they think we are looking to move into gws spot. If we did it Andrew should be there at 4 for freo and gws miss out at 5. Adelaide might see value in gaining an extra pick instead of using one to jump into gws spot.

If we slipped into north's spot last year the only benefit would of been seeing Sydney not getting mcdonald and Campbell .

Yeh my mistake. I thought before last year it was always around mid Nov but it wasn't.

My expectation is that GWS will trade pick 2, but not until draft night.

They want points for Fahey, so I think they will bid on both Daicos and Darcy, maximising the cost for those players. This will improve their own late picks.
Then they will trade pick 2 for 3, 4 or maybe 5. They will take the best deal but it will probably be organised in advance.

If they trade now, the other club may not lodge both bids which would hurt GWS later on.

GWS don't want more midfielders, they will already have a bunch putting their hands up for trade without bringing another one in.

If they rate Callaghan though they will happily trade some of their other mids they don’t rate as highly.

I think they want to trade but with a few teams interested I doubt they don’t ask for a lot. They hold all the cards

Crows will trade 4 if “their guy” is gone, to Freo for 8 and other picks. That’s the word I have.

Freo take Erasmus, Crows then take NWM before Port who have locked him in at 12.

If rumours are true that Crows have been trying to work their up in the draft then the only player i can think of is Callaghan. It wouldn't be anyone else.

As far as who 'the guy' is, well it depends if they're talking in the context of knowing whether they can trade up or down yet. If they already know that they can't trade with GWS then my guess is that they know Callaghan will be gone, then 'our guy' is most likely Hobbs.

Not sure why Freo would do the deal with us anyway unless they've got strong mail that Hawks were keen on Erasmus. I would have thought you guys would be all over Ward, who looks electric and is a Hawks supporter, yeah?

I just can’t see GWS not asking for the world (I can only see it being 5 + our future first or all our seconds this year and next, something that’s way overs) Especially with other interested teams. They hold all the cards here. And because Callaghan is rated so highly they will demand teams pay extra, otherwise they just draft him. It would be a lot for us to give up especially when we still have so much work to do on our list.

If the shoe were on the other foot we’d be asking the world. No reason to assume GWS would be different

Yep I think that is about right. Which is why the most likely scenario is GWS take pick 2 to the draft and get Callaghan. GC would be the only ones I see willing to pay the price.
