Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Excuse my ignorance and lack of navigation, but is there somewhere I can view the video profiles of the upcoming 2021 draftees ? Are they grouped together somewhere or just randomly added by interested parties ?
Would love to self evaluate who we may take with our picks after months of seeing many names bandied about.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Cheers !

I did a phantom top 30 during the week and ended up with Ward, Chesser and Clarke for us.

Wondering if we should be going against the regular Hawthorn ethos as a club and publically announcing we want Callaghan but are happy with Andrew/Ward/Johnson if he's taken. Could really force other clubs hands if they hear we mean business so strongly.

Would GWS offer up pick 2 for less in return if they prefer Andrew but can't broker a deal with Adelaide or Gold Coast to secure him first?

Could it be as simple as 2 for 5 and a swap of future firsts?

If we do a deal, this is it IMO
The swap of firsts could mean we slide 5-8 places.
That's good enough on face value.
Anything more is the club making a statement about Callaghan being a generational talent.

FWIW I've said before he looks a lot like Ryan Burton.
Others have said he is more productive in that part of the ground than Burton, which would make a fine player indeed.

I like the look of Sinn much more, but these are just highlights.
McKenzie has earned the trust IMO - so let's see!

Hawthorn then take Callahan and GC take Andrew. GWS are left high 'n dry.

GWS will not move on that pick 2 if it creates 0.000000001% risk of them not getting their first preference. They keep pick 2, they get what they want. Be it Mac Andrew or Callahan, they're getting what they want with no risk.
Unless they're genuinely stuck between the two, they can swap with GC and better their draft position elsewhere, and leave the decision up to GC.

I myself am/was super keen on Callahan, but Hawks fans may need to just move on.

AFL website, drop down menu and click AFL HQ. Click draft tab. Then scroll down and you can pick whoever you want to watch. I find it hard to finish a video and not get linked to some highlight from 2003 or whenever you get sent… but if reading lots about one draftee or another that’s where I check them out.

Anyone that can kick the ball like Brent Guerra would be high on my list. What a weapon.

We just have to let it be known to him and his manager that we’re doing everything we can to take him in the draft….then wait 2 years.

2OLD 2SLOW has made a few from specific games. Search this thread for his posts and you should find a link to them

Gold Coast and Adelaide may have zero interest in Andrew at their first selections and the Giants may be aware of that.

Personally I'm not itching to get Callaghan above all else. But it's interesting to speculate on what it might take if we think the club desperately wants him.

It is interesting, seems most people and even clubs moving heaven and earth to move the top, however when you look at clubs that won premierships you need good players across the field, such a risk to have a superstar paying so much cash to and another part underfunded. Like Collingwood 36-58, Bulldogs 43-52 just to match points. We also did some work for McGuiness before. Anyway there have been plenty of good players later on in 20s and 30s, sure there will be this year too, Richmond, Geelong hold few picks there, we have 2 as well. I just feel clubs more willing to give up higher picks for bunch of lower picks. I guess that is where the recruiters earn their money. If 2-3 years able to pick up 3-4 good players, really speeds up the process. On the other hand if you give up your first, second for say pick 1 or 2, how slow the process, so much pressure on that player, etc

We used to be able to see photos, rankings etc I could not see all that, probably format has changed.

Starting to warm on Sinn and wouldn’t be upset if we nabbed him. Quick! Holds the 100m record at Xavier at 11.3, seems to be a well grounded kid that wants to get the best out of himself, nice left footer, excellent line breaking and looks good overhead. At 186cm not a midget.

Start of year touted top 5 but due to Covid and injury has slipped but this year I don’t think we saw anywhere near the best of this kid. Massive upside! With Day, CJ, Bramble, Impey, Seamus …… throw in Sinn ZOOM ZOOM!

His upside is enormous. If one or two of Finn, Nash and Newcombe come on we won’t lack for inside grunt and size. If we landed mcknevitt later in the draft it would be a perfect balance. And then Taylor somehow and I’d be excited. Note, I’ll probably be excited anyway 😀

I'm coming around too.
If Ward is gone, I'm taking him.

Check the interview with him in that Foxsports article Tyler posted above. He’s switched on, already studying finance at university, has already completed some leadership courses. I’d love his speed and size roaming through the middle of the ground.

Don’t shoot the messenger, BUT theres a strong chance we take Gibcus if he’s available at 5(7)…..
Not what most people would do ,but it’s strongly being talked about at the club.

I'll literally vomit. And I know the difference between literally and figuratively.

I posted this earlier in the year about sinn and am likely over thinking it , is it a worry being such an explosive run and carry player that he has suffered a bad hamstring already?

ModernArtillery has us taking Isaac Birt late in his Phantom draft. Worth a look.

I've had a look, and now there's another player I would like us to get.
I am now officially turning into Shifter Sheehan, perma-chub and all.

Nice lefty kick, great mover, and shows pretty decent courage/physical confidence in the way he takes contested marks (even if the completion of those marks was atypical, he is clearly not a weak player).

Here's Shifter's rundown ...

Isaac Birt
South Adelaide, SANFL/ Strathalbyn FC
State: South Australia
Height: 183cm
Weight: 70kg
Date of Birth: 04/07/03
Classy left footed wingman with similar traits to Port Adelaide’s young star Karl Amon. His blistering speed and agility together with his pinpoint kicking and footy smarts has led to him having a remarkably consistent season including representing his state in against Western Australia having 16 disposals in the first match in August. Played 16 matches at under 18s level averaging 20.6 disposals at an impressive 70% efficiency in 2021. Did not test at the 2021 NAB AFL Draft Combine due to knee injury.
