Past #3: Jed Anderson - delisted end '22 - 89 NMFC games - go well Jed

Because the Aus Govt has said no Jab No play.
They'd be forced to stop playing for the same reasons Joker wasn't allowed into the country/compete in the AO.
This is the same Australian government that has tried to make it illegal to criticise them, tried to pass a bill to allow Fundy schools to punish students for not believing, failed to properly protect us from fires and covid, stolen Jed's people's land from them originally, holds secret trials of whistleblowers and locks up kids in concentration camps.

So obviously in an election year this government would stop players playing footy if it thought there were votes in it, they're a pack of ****wits.

I'm sure the club will do everything they can to help Jed and get him back playing with the group. If he has had an adverse reaction i hope that he advised the club immediately and that steps were taken to have this reaction recorded and tested by a medical professional so that any request for exemption can be backed up with medical evidence (eg. the 'might have a swollen heart' piece).

If Jed failed to tell the club or he and the club failed to have him looked at as soon as possible then they have shot themselves in the foot here.

For players its pretty simple. To play you need to be vaxxed. If you don't want to be vaxxed you need to provide sufficient grounds for exemption. If you are unable to satisfy the grounds for exemption you are unable to be an AFL player until you can either prove grounds, get vaxxed or the AFL lifts the mandate.

I hope that Jed is listening to proper cousel here and not seeking advice and support from 'secret facebook groups' because that will not end well.

+1.

A lot of speculation but what seems to be irrefutable is that if he wants to play, he needs the jab. That isnt likely to change anytime given the definition of fully vaxxed is going to be 3 jabs very soon. Personal arguments about vaccination aside, there is only one outcome that allows him to play footy for North this year.

Sheehan’s Sunday column is just a muck rake isn’t it? If there was anything of substance a real reporter would be on it.

On the heart enlargement issue, I personally know of an ex - elite athlete (national representative) who had the vaccine and had a heart issue afterwards. The result is that he can get to a high intensity but cant maintain it for any length of time. He has been told it will get better with time.

I think I’ll go with that excuse in the future.

The figures of adverse events following vaccination in studies from Israel, Canada, the UK and the US all show the rate of serious adverse events and vaccine injury is higher than was claimed by the CDC and the companies making the vaccines during their trials. I've linked to all of them in the covid thread over the last 5 or so weeks.

This isn't bullshit on facebook. Its actual data. Even people who promote vaccines and boosters are acknowledging this. Its age and sex specific, highest in males under 30, ie those least at risk from serious covid outcomes, especially if they are healthy. People go out of their way to ignore or minimise these findings. Its kind of like people who deny climate change pretending fires and floods aren't more serious because of climate change.

If the claims of Jed shaking before the vaccine are true then he probably has some trauma based issues given his history. If he isn't feeling supported by the club (and certainly by many posters here) then that isn't good enough from us.

If he has had a vaccine injury his career may be over. There is a risk of severe vaccine injury even if its low. If he was unlucky enough to cop such an injury not only does that fu** our footy side up its taken away his livelihood. So we better support him properly if that is the case. That includes not referring to his potential worries in a public forum as "irrational" and based on "bullshit from facebook.".

The issue with some of these studies is that they may be deemed as research but are not quantile 1. Journals such as Nature is research that has peer review international leaders in the field and are at the highest rankings. The journal needs to be Q1 to be taken seriously. You can check the quality of the research here: SJR : Scientific Journal Rankings
Medical companies that put forward their bullsh** is a way of making money and fooling everyone!

At least one of those studies i linked to (a UK one) was published in Nature. IIRC It was the one that showed the risk of myocarditis for young men (no one else iirc) was higher after vaccination than COVID. Barely higher with Pfizer and AZ and alot higher with Moderna. But it was dependent on dose number, what the previous shot was if its a second dose and maybe a couple of other things.

I think one other was from NEJM which has a good reputation.

And look alot of them are preprints too, but they're all about a month old at most so i'm not surprised they haven't been reviewed yet. And I get they should be viewed more cautiously but at the same time there is no actual criticism associated with them and that tends to happen with preprints that have major errors and are about covid in some way.

But I do try to be discerning about this stuff and not just post any old shit.

Not quite. A medical exemption approved by the AFL is the other path. Refer my earlier link to the AFL policy.

All (most) published research is peered reviewed before publication. The quality of the research is determined by the journal because of many factors including who is doing the peer review- usually leaders in the field. The quality of the research is also determined by how many citations the journal receives.
Much of the so called research by anti Vaxers are opinion pieces by so called experts.

If the research is published in journals such as Nature then it should be taken seriously.
I am an academic- not having a go ferball (because you make a lot of sense) but sometimes the term ‘research’ is used very loosely in these crazy times!
Cheers

For sure.

There is some pretty funny "research" out there. I found out today that Pfizers former CEO Jeff Kindler is now CEO at Blackstone and he told Neil Young to remove his stuff from Spotify cos he now owns Young. Its that sort of quality that these lesser journals like Nature and BJM are missing I think...

My motivation is that I want to know what's going on for myself. The best way to do that is to try and find good data and be prepared to change your mind.

Given how difficult it is to get an exemption, I'm sticking with my initial assessment. And starting now to think he has played his last game of footy for us

They'd be forced to stop playing for the same reasons Joker wasn't allowed into the country/compete in the AO.
Jokers visa was officially revoked for having innacurate information on it. Last I heard you never needed a visa to enter Victoria from NT.

But I do agree AFL won't be caving in on this.

If the report is accurate and he was shaking before the shot it's not a medical issue regarding the vaccine itself so substitute vaccination wouldn't be an option.

Why? If they’ve tested positive they aren’t going to be playing anyway?
We have members of the ADF refusing to be vaccinated and they are being dismissed from the services.

Will preface by saying I like Jed. As a player I think he clearly adds a harder edge in the team and that at times on here he has been under rated.

He needs to do what ever he feels is right for him and his family.

As a club I would hope that we have contingent plans for him both being there and not.

The question that doesn't seem to be getting asked is whether it's even safe for him to play with cardiac swelling.

Even training, which he has reportedly been doing.

I've got no idea what to believe. I agree with Ferbs that just turfing people to the side without much support isn't the best way to go about it.

Good luck to Jed and Darling but there's no way they're winning a court case over vaccinations with the AFL.
Teachers and Health professionals have had to have the jab to work so do AFL players.

I don't think it is clear cut...

Vaccinations are voluntary and the government has only issued public health orders for certain industries like residential aged care workers, health care workers, education workers, care providers and airport workers.

It isn't discrimination for teachers and health professionals because there is a public health order which empowers the government to discriminate in a time of a public health emergency. I am not aware of a public health order existing at state or federal level for footballers.

He will be at the mercy of the court though, they will have to determine if the measure is reasonable and it wouldn't stop the government just issuing a public health order for athletes, like they ****ed Djoker over because of public opinion, and because they could, they didn't even bother arguing that it was for a public health reasons, just that they had the power to do so.

I doubt we would just turf him.

However there is likely a point where if he cannot play then we need to part ways.

Which is ridiculous considering we have nurses and doctors who are positive (but asymptomatic) working with the most vulnerable people in our society.

There were some aged care worker flu vaccination cases that preceded the covid public health orders which might be worth digging into.
