As of now, each state/country would have this many AFL listed players to choose from:

VIC 433 players
WA 123 players
SA 110 players
NSW/ACT 50 players
QLD 31 players
TAS 26 players
NT 15 players
IRE 13 players
USA 1 player
PNG 1 player
As it should be Australian Football State of Origin, not AFL State of Origin, there is nothing wrong with Qld, NT and Tas bringing players in from various state leagues. Quite a few NT players would be playing SANFL; a few Tasmanians would play VFL or SANFL. Some mid-career players in state leagues would often be better right now than 18-20 year old AFL listed players about to be delisted back to state leagues.
Ideally ACT would not get put with NSW either, but its hard to see ACT being competitive with anyone except "Internationals". NT could at least push, quite possibly beat, Tassie.

Yes, I agree with you, if there was to be a carnival with each state/territory competing. There are many players playing state league who are better players than those who have made their way on to an AFL list and there would be some who’d make the best 22 for TAS and NT and probably QLD as well.

There was always a couple of SANFL guys picked for sa, that would play out of their skin against the Vic's

Up until the Crows came in 1991 there were plenty. After the Crows came in, I think only Garry McIntosh, who chose to remain loyal to Norwood, but was still amongst SA’s best players. Then once Port came in in 1997 all roads led to the AFL in SA.

Vic bias

54% of AFL players
There is definite Vic bias. They have 10 teams, but not enough players to fill the 10 squads! WA, SA, TAS, NT and Internationals filling in the gaps for the VIC, NSW and QLD teams because East of The Great Dividing Range takes priority, despite per capita, not being as good at sport!

There no need for Allies.
Every state could have their own team.
I wish there was two weekends in early March for it every second year and there a first division and second division.
4 best states in division one and the the other 4 states and territories in second division.
NSW would be in division one for example.
SA v VIC and NSW v WA in first weekend. The two winners play second weekend for Australian Championship.
3rd and 4th play off to remain in division one for next championship with loser relegated to division two.

Winner of second division promoted in it's place for next championship two years beyond.
Representatives teams from places like ACT and NT still involved and it is just best from each territory or state whether in AFL or next level down out of AFL.
At a glance:

Vic metro, Vic country, WA, SA, NSW, Qld, Tas, NT.
Pre-season - Two "even" divisions with GF played between each div winner i.e. 3 games per Division & GF. (3 +1)
Division games played over a two week period.
GF 7-9 days after division games conclude.
Timing as per Covid season.
2 senior coaches per team plus support staff
8 players to interchange; 120 rotations per game.
max. % time for each player to be on the ground each match = 70%
Division games count as career games, include Brownlow & player assoc. votes
All Aust chosen from the comp.
Player payments to be the based median amount per previous season that is paired down to a set game fee.
Fluoro rules interpretations as season coming.
GA entrance fees to be 75% of regular season. Corporate boxes promoted.
AFL grounds all matches.

Not going to happen. At best we get two weekends of elite footballers from AFL clubs for this, not three weekends. They will still want a practice match with all their players at some point in pre-season, which is why two weekends maybe every two years is how it could be done.
But I do like the idea of All Australian chosen from the championships over the two weekends.
I think the two weekends are in early March. You then have one weekend after it for elite players and their clubs to have a practice match or intra-club practice match. The following weekend probably a break as they do now and then the club premiership season starts in last week of March.

Has to be pre-season imo.

Correct. No place for it any other time in football calendar. Players have trained over summer and fit and keen for an actual match by early March.
October for players is a joke as they want a holiday from football then. Mid season is no good as it in middle of club premiership season so it worked it semi-professional era when players prime employment was not their football club so clubs had less pull on them but since the transition period of 1990's that meant state of origin then had too many obstacles to have the full teams picked from like they could in early to mid 80's when players still had their jobs and football club not all the say. Pre-season is the only time AFL, players association and clubs could find a way to make it work for all parties and fans.

Maybe use a calculator next time.

Jesus. Was pulling teeth at the end looking for a centre half forward. Surely I'm missing someone:oops:
Viney would be Vic Metro, not SA. Was living in Glen Iris until he was 14, had a couple of years in the country, a couple of years in SA before moving back to Melbourne.

Great work, zac bailey is n.t though I thought. I would love to see a qld team without n.t players added, nobody has done one yet and it should be do able with 31 queenslanders on AFL lists. I don't think you could actually field a tas and n.t team on their own, accounting for injuries they may need to use state league players if anything.

Awesome, thanks for that, though perhaps QLD is strong enough to field a team on their own but NT and Tas combining for an alliance team would make them more competitive.
