Jordan Lewis is not a bad candidate as he would have played under two premiership coaches.

Um.

After what Lewis said about us?

I know it's different. I know in order to have a proper selection you must have unbiased views. But how are we so sure he and others will work to the best interests of the club rather than seeing it as an opportunity to work to it's detriment?

Surely we could have achieved the same result by appointing those who we know have never had any likely ill feeling towards us.

Let's just hope this extreme turn to mitigate bias works out the way we intend it to.

It's illogical to assume anyone named on a committee of this sort would knowingly operate in bad faith.
It would be career self-sabotage, whereas it's in their best interests in the industry to achieve strong results.
Whether you think they're the right people to undertake the review is another question.
Thinking over it - Lewis was probably handpicked by Mahoney from their overlapping time at Melbourne.

If not for his personal ethics, then at the least there's an ongoing professional financial imperative for him to work in the club's best interests.

Andrew Thornburn, you’ve got to be absolutely kidding me. What a joke of a selection. Gotta question the due diligence once again. Can we not avoid conflicting decision making for just two bloody seconds. FFS. This club.

Thornburn clearly hasn’t learnt a bloody thing, as he’s migrated over to the world leaders of leaving economic destruction in their wake in Boston Consulting Group.

Woe betide we let Hirdy anywhere near the club yet this muppet is welcomed with open arms into the heart of our operations and have a say on our future. If my head could explode, it sure as hell would over this new development.

He's involved in both the coach search and the external review sub-committees.

Did your head actually explode this time?

It’s actually fairly simple. Doing jobs like this is good for anyone’s career. You get the experience, new connections and the credibility that comes with it. Do a good job and people will remember it. Deliberately undermining a process is a sure fire way not to get gigs anymore. There’s no way someone like Jordan wouldn’t want to nail it because there’s so much upside for him.

Thank goodness we got Robert Walls - His knowledge of the modern game & how clubs should be run is second to none.................if this was 1990 and we're beating up players at training.......

I refuse to believe Warwick Capper was not available!

You’re 100% right but for Wallsy this may be his change to go out swinging.

The equivalent of playing in a GF and knowing it’s your last game….so why not do some damage?

On the plus side - Walls appointment would shit Sheedy no end and could even be considered a shot across his bow from Barham.

I imagine Sheedy would have expected to be appointed to the sub-committee.

"if anybody's gonna get it, it'll be James" - Robert Walls
"I don't think I've seen a player control a quarter of football like this I think hes has 15 disposals, kicked a freaking goal, got the importance clearance. hes has 6 clearances in this final quarter"

The fact that only one board member is involved in either the external review or the coach selection sub-committee and both times it's Dorothy Hisgrove – the board member who was a paid up Collingwood supporter only 3 years ago and seemingly a colleague of Brasher from PWC – says a lot I think.

Barham has put something in motion here that is as far from the incestuous, cloistered Essendon of old as he could possibly get. This club is going to be dragged into the 21st century by its bootstraps, kicking and screaming if necessary.
