Maybe be continued from the 20thmin mark, Midweek behind closed doors? Not sure there is any precedent.
UEFA gives teams 3-0 wins by default when a game is abandoned due to violence. E.g. AC Milan vs Inter Milan 2005 Champions League.

Obviously we know City fans were not 100% innocent but it's probably the best course of action.

Its true I don't follow this trash league very closely.

EDIT: A-League Men was established in 2004 as the A-League by the Football Federation Australia (FFA) NVM you are a clueless clown.
They no longer control the A League, you have no idea what you're talking about. Just stop.

On 1 July 2019, the FFA and Australian Professional Football Clubs Association (the body representing the A-League clubs) announced an agreement had been reached for the FFA to relinquish control of the league to the clubs by the following month, in time for the start of the 2019–20 season.[28]

I’d love to know what those blaming Victory as a club think they could/should have done.

It was a City home game.
Ticketek, AAMI Park & the seccos have the names & photos of banned people.
The home team is responsible for working with the stadium & seccos around crowd control.

Christ, they weren’t even wearing club merch.

I fail to see what their role in this is.

That's the idea. To dress dapper.

Obviously severe penalties should be directed at the morons who rushed the pitch. But it was utterly stupid by Glover to throw a flare into the crowd. He didn’t deserve to be assaulted but there’s a reason players cop cards for ‘incitement’. The pitch invasion probably spared him a red card.

Why doesn't this venue have prohibitive fines for running on the field like other venues?

$10k for running on the field. Let's see how many of these heroes take up the challenge then.
How about a $50k fine for anyone that takes a flare to a game.
So easy to solve this proble.

yes he should be charged as well

Let's fine Donald Glover as well for having the audacity of having the same surname as Tommy whilst we're at it..

And Danny. It was a lethal weapon after all 😬

There's been Twitter posts shared on here saying effectively of "Melbourne Victory fans invade the pitch after Tom Glover threw a flare into the terrace." That implies that it's his fault as far as I'm concerned.

Let me put it this way: if an active area lobs numerous missiles in the vicinity of the opposition goalkeeper (maybe the biggest sitting duck in sports since they have their back turned and are pretty much stationary) I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility that one of the missiles will ultimately find its way back to where it came from. In contrast, until last night, the Victory supporters' response to Glover's actions would have been outside the realms of possibility, at least for me.

He contributed to the situation.
Feel like the most logical conclusion is to award all three points to City considering their lead and the way in which things transpired. Surely can't replay the game where it goes back to 0-0?
city fans threw flares onto the field too in the direction of the Mebourne goal. It’s Izzo’s workplace and a duty of care is owed to him too. Yet everyone ignores he did the right thing and removed the flares safely rather than launch them back into a packed stand like a ****wit?

The ability of soccer in Australia to shoot itself in the foot is unparalleled.

Rugbah League gives it a good crack.

He contributed to the situation.

You said "Where is anyone saying he started it?" I responded that there are numerous Twitter posts implying that by saying "Victory fans storm the pitch after Tom Glover throws a flare at their active area" (including one that giggler99 coincidentally included a couple of posts under mine), which 100% implies that he was responsible, not that he contributed.

Everyone isn't ignoring that. Glover shouldn't have done what he did. If he's sanctioned for it, he should take whatever they give him. Izzo isn't going to be punished, Glover could/should be, so it follows that Izzo did the right thing. But frankly I'm not really surprised by Glover's reaction.

Which club as it currently stands is most likely to be screwed by the grand final being in Sydney? Melbourne City. So the APL has screwed Melbourne City, and City's management has publicly backed the decision by the APL, as distinct from the other Victorian A-League clubs who publicly criticised it. So Glover and other City players are probably pretty pissed about the whole thing as is and are none-too-pleased that they're the collateral damage from the coordinated and agreed protest.

Turns out the people in the stands behind him actually have no interest in leaving and apparently want to take the opportunity to cause trouble. They start lobbing flares as his back is turned and he may or may not have been aware that a cameraman was injured by one of these flares. So he has a brain snap and flings it back in the direction of these morons. I'd speculate that Glover figured these clowns were all bark and no bite, badly misreading that they were going to take the opportunity that these mass protests (and massive overreaction on the whole in my opinion but that's by the by) to escalate things to a dangerous level.

And while I'm speculating, if you feel like indulging me, I'm going to assume that these Victory supporters who were throwing flares, then jumped the fence broke the barriers, destroyed the pitch and goals and assaulted players, the referee, media and security probably didn't go into the game with the most pure of intentions. Forgive me for being dubious that they were there to help the APL see the error of its ways and quietly exit the stadium at 20 minutes until after throwing several flares at defenceless people trying to do their job, they were triggered by one coming back the other way. They went there looking to damage property, assault someone, start a riot. I hope they're ready for the consequences, because I get the sense that these absolute dipsticks are going to get an example made if them.

Apparently most of the invaders came from the HORDA group of supporters, based on what many of those wearing black have on their t shirts. Copying the Bosnian Ultras I guess. Who haven't exactly got the best history with behavior and ideologies themselves over there. Tons of pictures of those on the pitch being posted around from those there.

Just a heads up to anyone posting in the thread..

Reading through their have been a lot of personal insults being thrown about, any personal insulting posts will be deleted. I know it has been a tough and emotional time for the league and the game but please can we keep the conversations civil. Most of you guys are pretty good posters so I don't want to have to ban anyone.

Cheers giggler99

Hey giggler99 , please confirm to typeclub that I didn't report them. I was completely happy to leave their stupidity on display for everyone. Still going on...

There’s a reason we call Melbourne silly people, and city little silly people. It was on display tonight.

City fans hurling flares after their goal which required stoppages in play.

Melbourne fans hurling flares at the walkout.

Glover was frustrated but come on, you’re one guy against 1000s looking for the smallest reason to go off! He gave it to them. Rather than throwing flares into a crowd, walk away from the goals. What happened to him after that was inexcusable, but he didn’t help the situation. It was already a tinderbox due to the APL decision.

Exchanging pasta recipes no doubt

Simple equation here, you may not have worked out :-

1. Don’t bring flares to game.

2. No flares, nothing thrown at goalie.

3. No flare thrown at goalie, no return flare throw from goalie.

Maybe be continued from the 20thmin mark, Midweek behind closed doors? Not sure there is any precedent.

United vs Liverpool in 2021 was abandoned after a riot / rampage by Utd fans upset about Super League decision invaded Old Trafford.

The game was replayed a week and a half later.

People are really going with the "Glover started the whole thing" line? Like he had the flare stashed in his sock or something?

Stuff this 'lifetime ban from the A-League' crap. Anyone who entered the field should face a five figure fine. Anyone who actively attacked a player or official should be facing criminal prosecution. Name and shame anyone who can be identified and let's see them explain themselves.

It’s all on film. The flare throwers, the pitch invaders, the bin man.

All easily recognisable, for once in my life, I’ll back a lawyer. Sue the shite out of them. Sport does not need these type of fans.
