1. The law isn’t wrong. Sexual offences tend to carry significant maximum sentences.

If anything, the basis of your complaint would be that the extant sentencing guidelines are.

2. “Sack the judge” is a knee-jerk dogwhistle response.

For one, you can’t, only Parliament can, and it’s a long and difficult process, and two, that’s why we have an appeal system.

Also, if you really want to go down the US route of judges being easily sackable, or elected like the US, be my guest. I’ll sit back with some popcorn and watch how it turns out.

You're correct sentencing is wrong and it needs to change

Sack the judge is not a knee jerk response, how many times do judges hand down the minimum sentence, how many times do judges let repeat offenders back out on bail only for them to offend again even after the police have pleaded for them not to be let back out on the streets. Everyone should be answerable if they continually make poor decisions in their job, even judges.

I understand you know the legal system a lot better then me But its pretty black & white for me if you rape- sexually assault someone you should go to jail in my book. No matter how long ago it happened

Everyone should be answerable if they continually make poor decisions in their job, even judges.

Since the late 90s, judges are strictly bound by current sentencing guidelines when they hand down sentences. If they go well beyond them, either lower OR higher, they will simply be appealed, and most likely successfully.

If you don’t like current sentencing, take it up with Parliament and the Victorian Sentencing Advisory Council.

One of judges’ major complaints is that they don’t get the absolute freedom to decide their own sentence, something they used to have far more autonomy over.

It's insane to me that you can be 40+, rape an underage teenager (I say that because 16 is considered age of consent), and not spend time in the slammer.

Take the ages out. Rape anyone and you should be spending time locked up. Simple as.

the reports on Joffa coming out of the papers today are seriously disturbing. the poor guy decided to report it after he worked out there could be more victims based on a comment Joffa made in the chat where he was trying to meet up with children. there was indeed another, Joffa was hanging on child hotlines trying to talk to kids.

Of course he is lol. He also suggested I was a racist a few years ago. He likes to talk a lot on situations that he has no idea about, and then takes incredibly personal shots at people when they have a different view.

Nobody is defending Joffa if what the media has reported is true - you would need to be braindead to do something like that. He's looking for an outraged response to his trolling, that's all this is.
