News Clarkson to step away from football indefinitely

So people should be listening to the Murdoch press?

Are you claiming the other 30% (often Fairfax with Peter Costello helping call the shots) are the evil woke leftists?

This argument would’ve made sense 20 years ago. The Murdoch press is far less influential in the online world.

A lot of people jumping to the 'oh how could the poor white guy be guilty' tactic, without even having understanding of what's been happening in the investigation - or what's causing the ongoing delays.

Clarkson, Fagan and Burt want access to the confidential and private documents and medical records - and the First Nation's accusers do not want to hand them over. Thus, an impasse has been reached, and Clarkson, Fagan and Burt have asked not to be interviewed by the panel, until they have received said requested documents.

Had they agreed to be interviewed without requesting this documentation, they would have participated long ago. Now, a mediation is scheduled for 25th May, in order to try and resolve things and wrap up the investigation.

This has nothing to do with the AFL, and everything to do with both parties (likely going through their lawyers), putting up roadblocks due to conditions they find unpalatable.

People really need to shelve the 'oh the AFL is so woke/Clarkson is so hard done by' narrative - it's not what's happening here. In all honesty, none of us have any idea what took place, and some cases can take years, if many different parties are involved. That's the nature of the legal system...especially in a case as utterly complex as this.

They still do have influence, which is thankfully less.

But what is the argument here? Do you think they should have more influence? Do you think the media skews left? Which would be a ridiculous assumption. The idea the age, a fairfax paper is leftist is absurd.

This feels like PR.

In other words, this feels like an attempt to reverse the roles and paint Clarkson as a victim.
And you say this despite a complete lack of evidence or even clarity on what happened?

I hope he hasn't played the 'mental health' card just to take the heat of himself if he's been made aware of some new irrefutable allegations towards him because there's a big differences in mental health & mental weakness.
and yet there is some unknown reason why mental illness is still stigmatised in society eh. Good grief.

Is the difference which club you support?

So he has been hard done by then? We are supposed to give him the presumption of innocence until there is evidence proving any wrongdoing.

It was a huge gamble for North to allow Clarkson to coach while this issue was outstanding.

It’s not about Clarksons guilt or not , just the turmoil it was always going to bring To North melbourne.
Yep was always staggering that both Fagan and Clarkson were allowed to coach while such an investigation was ongoing

We do have that, no one doubted that. Who are these people wanting that done away with? Who wanted Clarko suspended for life and blasted into space before an investigation was complete?

If you are talking about online opinions, people have opinions about everything. People have opinions on court cases before they go to trial all the time, doesn't mean the legal system goes with whatever the public sentiment might be, processes are still (rightly) followed.

Strawman argument.
People on here have him guilty already. That is quite appalling.

He’s a football coach. Not a politician.

Having something as serious as this hanging over his head whether guilty or not guilty and being in charge of a woefully performing team seems more likely.

Both can be true.

It certainly much easier to make a PR play like this when the team stinks and you're playing for draft picks/a priority pick.

So the accused are seeking medical records of the accusers?

What possible records would make a difference to the complaints? The abortion thing was mentioned. Could it be of possible prior abortions being done prior to any of the alleged incidents?

What does guilty mean in this case? I think most people who aren't burying their head in the sand can tell that some dodgy shit went down at Hawthorn, to what scale and extent is being investigated. He hasn't been found guilty of anything and was allowed to continue his role coaching, he voluntarily stood down for a break.

So he has been hard done by then? We are supposed to give him the presumption of innocence until there is evidence proving any wrongdoing.

You, me and anyone else can presume and think what we like, we aren’t handing down the judgement or doing the investigation or privy to every fact.

We can all have opinions on what we think.

Did you read the rest of what I wrote? I'm not citing his innocence within this investigation, I'm citing his innocence in his contribution to the delays that he claims are affecting his mental health.

He's complaining about the investigation stalling, but he's contributing to the investigation stalling. I have no problem with the presumption of innocence, but this isn't the AFL that is holding up the process - it's solely the accusers and the defendants, and their legal representation, that are the reasons for the delays.

We literally have no idea what's happened yet. I haven't commented on that since last year, and won't until we have evidence from a legal ruling/mediation etc.
