we can tag sinclair but st kilda also have wanganeen-milera off half back who is as good as a kick, albeit not as quick for run and carry as sinclair

stopping sinclair will only go so far when st kilda have players like wanganeen-milera mentioned above, hill and a strangely in form mason wood who are all big parts of their ball movement. lyon has also been willing to move sinclair into the midfield to either force taggers to follow him in there and throw off mid rotations or let him impact the game from a different position

structure ahead of the play to strangle ball movement like we did at marvel against carlton will be more important than locking any particular player out

See what Thu has to bring us.

Btw will the mods consider putting Max in for Votes in the review thread if he has another run at being our MVP this time around?

Four seasons of being top 4, or there abouts, has changed many fan’s expectations.

A few fans probably see this year and next year as the end of a window, with the potential retirements of Rich and Zorko (and Gunston).

Then we’re looking at the possibility of Neale pushing in to his 30’s, and a potential decline.

For some of us it’s win now, or face another few years until our kids are fully integrated in to the “next” team.
Many of us who've been long-term supporters (more or less since the merger (or much longer in some cases!)) have ridden the ups and downs of footy and know that it takes a lot of stars to align to win a flag. Those of us who were around for the three-peat were blessed beyond words. A lot of good teams don't win flags - it just may not happen for us. Enjoy the small things and the fact we're winning more often than not.

I want a rebuild, so I can enjoy the draft again. Time to tear it all down, trade everyone over 25 and start again.

I want to see it this way too but our current 22 are capable of much more and it'll be a shame not to turn it into at least a GF appearance. If we play to the best of all our capabilities and turn up second best, that's fine. But I've always felt like we are holding back and not clicking into that extra gear as a group.

They are capable, have the talent but do they lack the desire to be the best? I'll keep wondering about that one.

Why does that not surprise me?

I'm not saying I agree with you, certainly not in totality, but if we show we haven't progressed this year it's certainly time to rejig our list so we're not left with players getting paid beyond their current capacity . It can all turn to muck fairly quickly when you find yourself in the second tier teams.

We still have some excellent younger players on our list.

Time to let McKenna off the leash. He's shown numerous times he can break from defence and take us into the forward line at ridiculous speed; let's just make that a gameplay and build around it. So much better than the long bomb as it's disarming and ends with multiple options than just a high overhead mark chance.

We've actually got the weapons there in Wilmot and McKenna with Coleman left to kicking which until recently he'd been very good at.

It's too much to expect Wilmot to be breaking the lines overly much at his age but if we're going to be in it this year we need McKenna doing it as often as we can.

Interestingly balanced for Top 2 finish. Clearly losing to Adelaide and Hawthorn has major implications, given where we were, but if we can find a way to keep winning and we have some luck, we can do it.
Past Top 2 and Number of Losses.
2022 1st 4 / 2nd 6
2021 1st 4 / 2nd 5
2020 1st 3 / 2nd 3
2019 1st 6 / 2nd 6

I'll be damned if I haven't done the ladder predictor a hundred times over the last week.

Spoiler alert: I haven't done one yet where we're not the minor premiers & premiers. :)

Take it to the bank.

We all understand how the saints like to run and flood back as quick as they can to clog oppositions forward line. Hopefully we try and play a fast game this week and any opportunity we take a mark around the centre let's just turn and go and get it into the forward line as quick as we can as long as the forwards understand this will be the plan. Lets try and make it a fast game with the saints coming off 1 less day and playing in that heavy rain, i am really confident we can outrun them on the night. Surely their legs will be very heavy by the end of the night. Hopefully.

Can anyone very quickly get our win loss at Marvel over the last few years? Is is available somewhere?

We play so poorly away from the Gabba but I have the impression we are much better at marvel.
I saw on the main board somewhere yesterday that we are 7-2 at Marvel over the last few years. We actually have a very good away record except for the >

McKenna has been good for us but he hasn't got back to his peak Bombers form yet IMO, hopefully it comes before finals.

I wonder if partially it is because at the Bombers he had a license where as he has a set structure to stick to which doesn’t quite suit his attributes here at the Lions.
I also think that he runs a lot harder defensively here than he ever did at Essendon so is gassed when we get the ball.

I'm surprised you haven't changed your allegiances to Carlton. You'd have loved the last twenty years.

GASP ... well yeah sure all those drafts would have been great but can you imagine his responses to some of the choices they made over the years.

Besides we don't wan't poor briztoon to suffer the kind of permanent mental issues that come with being a Carlton surporter**

** well they are all blue ;)

Paddy Dow 🤦‍♂️

I think injury lists should come out today.

But given Payne hurt himself Friday, is no news good news? He looked pretty limited.

I think we need to play Lohmann for one reason - he lowers his eyes in attack. Always looking for a pass and pulled off a few
I do agree on Lohmann, it’s going to be very tough to try and keep he and Fletcher in the team this week.

With Rich now out for a while it looks like McKenna and Wilmot may do the majority of kick ins going on the Swans game.
They may want Coleman to be the next disposal from a kick in if that can be achieved.

Since we've been good, so limiting it to 2019 to present, we are 7 wins and 2 losses as Mr Malice pointed out.

The wins have come against North (+20), St.klida x 2 (+56 and +15) , Collingwood (+1), Carlton x 2 (+18 and +26), Essendon (+22) and the losses have been against Carlton (lost by 15 points) and the Dogs (lost by 14 points), so we are pretty competitive there which should give us confidence.
