AFL Player 13: Nik Cox - Returns to AFL level after 630 days out due to concussion

If he could develop into a hybrid ruck rover / KPD that would be great. Blicavs is the only player I can think of in that mould.

I was actually saying in the trade thread we should throw some big cash (while we had it) at Blivacs to come over and finish his career here as a mentor to Cox. (No chance now as Blivacs re-signed)

**** me . He is certainty not looking to exert much physical effort out there today. Some of his efforts have been next level down soft

Man he really struggles to change direction quickly or show much explosive movement. Looks like Bambi out there. I really think it’s got to be a intercepting 3rd tall role for him rather then:
on the wing (where he’s not agile enough)
accountable 1 on 1 lock down defender (he’s not physical/explosive enough)

Was intercepting okay. Need to leverage the height and run he has off the backline whilst hiding his lack of physicality.

Looking at the lack of run we get out of Weiderman and the fact that we went into the game with two ruckmen on top of 2 KPFs, I hope he's a half-forward. I'd like to have a 200cm half forward who has a big tank and just runs and runs, with a 2MP home in the square, plus a collection of mids or small forwards.

His role is to run the 2nd KFD of the opposition into the ground and create room for 2MP. If his opponent is going to zone off him then we play through him and try to run the ball into half-backs, mids and half-forwards pulling the trigger from 40-50 m out.

Playing two rucks means we have a kick down the line on the wing followed by another kick down the line inside 50. We need mobile height as well.

Well it will not take too many more efforts like that for me to be off the band wagon.
There was a contest he pulled out of in the Anzac day game last year that at the time I thought well that was pretty poor but he only played 1 week after that so it was more a wait and see if it was just a moment.
Today he was worse than Weideman level IMO. It was not something that was really in his game early on. He has incredible talent but he has to go harder than he did today. Not expecting him to be a maniac at the contest but what he dished up in a few efforts today was total rubbish.

I haven't seen him lately do you think maybe it's a lack of confidence?

The lack of competitiveness from Bryan, Weideman, Cox and even Wright at times is a real worry.

I'm hoping that the coaches are delivering this message behind closed doors, some of their efforts are nothing short of pathetic.

How many 200cm half forwards that run defenders into the ground has there been in the league?

At this point, I think playing as a second KPF that running his defender into the ground with leads is the best use of his skillset.

I'm just not seeing it as a KPD and even then I don't particularly like the idea of him rebounding off half back. I don't know why the title has good ball user in it because there's nothing really special about the quality of it.

One way or another, we need to hurry up and make a permanent decision with what we see him as.

Needs to play as a KPD until such time as he shows promise with ball in hand. Seriously regressed from his first handful of AFL games. And with Reid's injury luck, we might as well take the gamble ... it's not like he's going to trump Martin or Durham on a wing.
not even up to vfl at the moment, he will be a bust
