Sorry wrong year - we need it for points for our academy picks. If we take Dew as an assistant the Suns will throw in a first round pick too right?
Pretty sure that's how this works

Imagine if the AFL had competent people running the showThe afl created this mess. They had a waiting to have license handed to them, they put all the wrong people in charge and it’s been a shambles. Southport had the base, the juniors everything
Terrible call. The list aint ready for finals.
Any chance this is the beginning of the club being wound up? In reality someone has to go to make way for Tasmania and out of the 2 of GWS and Gold Coast, Gold Coast makes the most sense in the long term
That's not really correct. Hardwick showed genuine improvement each year. Starting in 2010 with 6 wins (73%), then 8 (86%) and 10 (111%). Made finals in his fourth season with 15 win season and for the follwing two seasons before the 2016 season, which was a disaster, but forced a re-set. Rest is history.
Hardwick took 6 years to do anything at Richmond and it was less him and more that Dusty just came of age.
Hardwicks not going to do anything at Gold Coast so if that's the grand plan, this thread will just be bumped in 3-4 years rofl.
Looking forward to Dimma bringing George Castanga out of retirement and up to the Suns with him.
Fairly superficial take.
McKenna might have been "on track" on the surface, but the cultural issues in the team were immense. He had to go, and it's not surprising he hasn't landed a big gig since. They were getting by mostly on talent and the unbelievable play from Ablett more than anything Bluey was doing. "Give the ball to Gary" seemed to be the only instruction. Eade was never a supercoach, though was absolutely the wrong choice.
Fair point, but it took Hawthorn and North even longer to achieve success.
Expansion clubs have never had it it easy.
Yeah that’s true. I don’t recall a successful Gold Coast sporting team at the top levelCan you name a successful Gold Coast sporting team ……ever
LockettgateThis has the AFL’s grubby little hands all over it. 7 weeks out and can still play finals. What a shambles. Luckily, no one on the Gold Coast could care less
Rugby league have had four goes , AFL this is their second attempt, Soccer two goes, Basketball there goes and none succeeded yet, baseball one goYeah that’s true. I don’t recall a successful Gold Coast sporting team at the top level
If I’m a coach I’m quitting to save face the moment my CEO publicly backs meThe infamous “total support”
Argument will be that a respected, successful senior coach like Hardwick should improve retention and even make Gold Coast a more attractive destination for players wanting to get the best out of themselvesSo in the same time frame as Hardwick, Dew lost Lynch and Prestia both to the Tigers, May to Melbourne, Charlie Dixon the year before he got there to Port, Aaron Hall to North, Ablett back to Geelong, Harley Bennell to whatever, Jack Martin to Carlton, O'Meara to injury / Hawthorn, Rankine to Adelaide, Adam Saad to half the league and Peter Wright to Essendon.
Now, remove like for like from Dimma or any other coach and see how they go.
From those premiership teams give Lynch and Prestia back, remove Riewoldt, Nankervis, Cotchin, Martin, Grimes, Houli and one or two role players.
Gold Coast's problem is retention, they need to fix it sooner rather than later or their entire existence will be nothing more than that of a feeder club where young draftees go to waste the first few years of their careers in obscurity.
Its even stupider when you remember that Carrara was originally set up for the Brisbane BearsNo doubt some dodgy land deal was done at Carara so a select few could profit.
But it's a stupid location.
Getting a bus from Pac Fair or whatever is a huge pain in the ass.
Gold Coasts problems are far more serious than the on field team.
Hardwick certainly is a good coach, but he is going to fix the suns issues soon? no.
When was AFL’s first attempt at Gold Coast? I never heard about that.Rugby league have had four goes , AFL this is their second attempt, Soccer two goes, Basketball there goes and none succeeded yet, baseball one go
The Bermuda Triangle of Australian sportYeah that’s true. I don’t recall a successful Gold Coast sporting team at the top level
Except there were no equalisation measures in those days and the VFL was not pumping $$$$ into Footscray to keep them afloat. It was simply sink or swim. More is expected these days with the amount of money and effort put into the Suns. This is Gold Coast's 13th season.
When was AFL’s first attempt at Gold Coast? I never heard about that.
5.5 years! Where did that time go!Sorry but Suns are poorly coached. Every team has its up and downs, but the Suns still put in way too many horrible matches and uncompetitive quarters of football 5.5 years into Dew’s tenure.
Doesn’t mean Hardwick is the solution, but it’s very very clear Dew is not. Nice guy and a decent development coach, but to put out the uncompetitive garbage they still do so regularly means Dew’s time was up.
