GC is 12-24 months away from being primed for extended finals

Dimma is going to get a prime job

GC - Damien Hardwick
Richmond - Josh Carr
West Coast - Mini McWalter

GC never recovered from knifing McKenna for Rodney Eade(lol).

McKenna was on track to make finals and 'supercoach' Eade just ruined them.
Bluey (and Eade) were never going to make finals after GAJ did his shoulder and then to make matters worse JOM did his knee. Agree McKenna shouldn’t have been sacked when he was. But he wouldn’t have lasted another season anyway. Club thought they had the list to compete but the whole game plan was built around give it to GAJ.

If we take Dew as an assistant the Suns will throw in a first round pick too right?

Pretty sure that's how this works

This is an absolute debacle of a situation.

It's clear as day that Dimma is going to end up on the GC. He gets a nice relaxing spot away from the Melbourne bubble to coach a team loaded with young talent. I'd almost go as far as saying Caro knows that Hardwick wants the job and is more than happy to attack Dew to get what she wants for her 'man'.

The afl created this mess. They had a waiting to have license handed to them, they put all the wrong people in charge and it’s been a shambles. Southport had the base, the juniors everything
The AFL wanted them to hand over complete control of the club - more or less, and the Sharks board weren't willing to do it, so it didn't get off the ground.

I don't blame the Sharks for not wanting to hand the keys to their club to the AFL just because they said so, so fair play imo. It's not the best outcome, but I don't blame them for not wanting their club to be washed and sanitised of their identity by the AFL men.

Sad really as I think the Sharks being "promoted" to the AFL would've been the best case scenario for all.

It took Footscray 14 years to play in their first final, it took Footscray 29 years to win their first final. It took Footscray 30 years to win the premiership.

This is Gold Coast's 13th season.
Fair point, but it took Hawthorn and North even longer to achieve success.

Expansion clubs have never had it it easy.

They had a far better located ground, too, not far from the light rail. Yet 13 years later, Carrara still relies on buses.

No doubt some dodgy land deal was done at Carara so a select few could profit.

But it's a stupid location.

Getting a bus from Pac Fair or whatever is a huge pain in the ass.
Same as Waverley.
I have travelled from Brisbane to Metricon a couple of times but I give it a miss now, you have go car > train > bus to get to the stadium and then the same back... night games you don't tuck yourself into bed until after midnight and that's on top of the 90 minutes or so to get there for bouncedown.

Metricon location is a disaster :shoutyoldman::poo:.

I think the Tigers won a premiership in their 14th season. Not sure how competitive they were when they first came in. I was a bit young at the time.

was given significantly longer than most coaches get to achieve results. the expectation for the last 2 seasons would have been to make finals, and it looks like they are going to fall short once again. do not think this is a carlton or north premature sacking looking for a sugar hit / messiah coach

seems like a good bloke but footy is a results industry
It definitely is. What were they expecting against top 2?

But it is for Gold Coast. They haven’t ever qualified for finals, so finals is a big deal. Once Gold Coast start making finals, then they can worry about winning finals/becoming Premiership contenders.
Can you name a successful Gold Coast sporting team ……ever

The cynic in me is wondering if the timing is by design as most teams have a little boost around coach departures and interim replacements.

2 weeks ago they were 7-7 and in contention for finals (hence the public rhetoric of "full support of the Board"). 2 bad losses and it looks in jeopardy again so make the announcement now in the hope it ellicits the extra 10% to get some wins that might sneak them in.

(Remembering, that this is from the perspective that Caro's mail was correct and they were intending to move on from Dew regardless and the above circumstances simply dictated the timing of the announcement).
But it wasn’t two bad losses. They were two losses against the two best teams in the comp. One of them was bad, the other they put up a fight but couldn’t endure.
