The Suns have set on Dew

CEO Mark Evans, five days ago:

"I've said time and time again, Stuey's our coach, contracted for this year and next year.

"(If he) does a good job, he'll be contracted well into the future.

“All I can say is that he's got my support to get on with the job, manage our players and staff as well as we can.”

The infamous “total support”

Dew can only do so much

The players need to take responsibility for their place on the ladder.

So in the same time frame as Hardwick, Dew lost Lynch and Prestia both to the Tigers, May to Melbourne, Charlie Dixon the year before he got there to Port, Aaron Hall to North, Ablett back to Geelong, Harley Bennell to whatever, Jack Martin to Carlton, O'Meara to injury / Hawthorn, Rankine to Adelaide, Adam Saad to half the league and Peter Wright to Essendon.

Now, remove like for like from Dimma or any other coach and see how they go.

From those premiership teams give Lynch and Prestia back, remove Riewoldt, Nankervis, Cotchin, Martin, Grimes, Houli and one or two role players.

Gold Coast's problem is retention, they need to fix it sooner rather than later or their entire existence will be nothing more than that of a feeder club where young draftees go to waste the first few years of their careers in obscurity.
No doubt retention is a (the?) problem. I was responding to a poster saying that Hardwick at Richmond took six years to do anything. Sure we retained the players we wanted to retain, but we also identified some rookie talent and under-utilised talent at other teams and lured them across (didn't actually need luring, they just wanted to play footy).

Strike up another victim for the vulture that is Caro. seriously, how does she keep her job?
How does Mark Evans keep his job? Just last week he was saying this:

The old saying is a Fish rots from the head down, both Evans and East should resign.

If you watch the press conference, it's pretty clear that nobody else will be stepping down

He didn't do a good job in the time Evans made the comment

Originally the Brisbane Bears never or rarely went near Brisbane, it was always Carrara.

The Bears were originally a pet project for Skase and his Gold Coast Casino from memory.

Also back then, the Gabba was a terrible shaped ground for AFL, basically a tear drop from memory.
Oh please have you forgotten the supermarket tycoon and Mick Cronin, who both had to be bailed out by the AFL

Wrong. Richmond finished H&A 5th with 15 wins in Hardwick’s 4th season.

how many finals wins.

that's all that matters

thats exactly why Port havent signed up Hinkley. H&A wins mean nothing if you don't win in finals.

Caro gets her info direct from the AFL, I have little doubt they are largely behind this. And she says that Hardwick will be installed as coach which I’m sure will also be the case. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was all laid out for Hardwick when he randomly left Richmond 10 games into the season. Everything planned to happen early to avoid GC haemorrhaging more players this off season.

Hardwick won't take the job as he's besties with Dew and knows fully well the place is rat-infested.

There is a chance that they could nab Daddy Donuts as Stinkers knows his other option is permanent bench-man at Port.

GC could be sent down to Tassie as soon as next season.

Clearly it did matter though, or there was no way he survives the 2016 season, if he didnt make finals the 3 previous seasons.

I'm not so certain Dimma will be the panacea that everyone seems to think he will be, not on his own at least. Whoever is the new head needs to be allowed to bring his own panel.

And more broadly, and I think this is a fair question, even if they did have success, like making and winning finals, would that garner the public interest that the AFL want?

Let's face it, the Gold Coast has been bermuda triangle for sporting clubs in all forms of different sport, I just looked up the GC Titans a rugby league club in rl heartland has 8k members - hardly a poster boy for success. Not sure how many the suns have but it's fair to argue the titans have more profile.

What are the odds of the suns gaining public interest over and above the titans? In rl heartland? Which is obviously low bar anyway.

Even the Southport Sharks have had more success than the Suns, and I'd argue should've been given a licence instead of a brand new start up.

What are the Suns supporters thoughts on here?

The Suns don’t have a history of corruption, board incompetence or buying premierships, so no.

As a footy supporter for more years than I care to admit, I detest how football clubs do this. I'm not taking a shot at Gold Coast, I've seen many clubs do it. They make decisions about coaches, the AFL knows, the media knows, but the loyal members, and the coach himself, are always the last to know. The club waits until the "rumour" is spread before denying it, and then sacking the coach 2 days later. Football clubs don't deserve their loyal members, they really don't. I'm fed up with all the cloak and dagger secrecy bullshit that football thrives on.

How does a journalist who broke news of a senior AFL getting sacked a week or so before it happened keep her job?

Probably by continuing to break news like she did?

And two failed NRL clubs and A Failed Rugby Union club called it home as well,

Don't forget Clive Palmers Gold Coast United where he would restrict the sales to 5000 people because he didn't want to pay for the extra security.

Hinkley will have received a well deserved 5 year extension by then
