No they won't.
Both would still be in the range 2nd round pick.
Good thing is we look to have drafted well the last couple of years.
At this stage I'm confident Owens, Nas, Pou will be guns. Windy maybe too, but at least he'll be solid.
Then we have Caminiti, Keeler, Heath, Hotton who could be anything.
I don't trust the AFL at all. I would not be surprised if the AFL warned off other clubs to not draft them prior to pick 20 and then only bid after that.Clubs could have picked them in the top 20 and we would have had no chance to match, we got them thanks to COVID making form and development ambiguous for list managers.
Dogs got the #1 pick player (JUH) for stuff all under the old rules. We’ve received no advantage really so far from from the academy biznez

The AFL is so corrupt that they would do that to get the club compliant with losing McKenzie and also have it in their back pocket to silence any dissent when clubs like Fold Coast or Norf get the golden handshake.
Why do you think that? I have little faith we would have selected the right players. 10 years many on this forum has been saying target mids, mids and more mids. They target two HBF'ers in our two top ten picks in 17, a key forward (who really can't be argued with, but I am for my irrational rant) and an injury bust mid in 18, a winger, a back, a ruck a mid and a small forward in 19 waiting until pick 55 to pickup a scraps mid, a veteran mid and another small forward in 20.Toce looks like he performs at AFL standard, something no-one else has been able to do in the last 20 years at the Saints. Of all the things that we've done wrong not getting a gun list manager and the best recruiter we could find were the most damaging. If you are rebuilding without the best staff available you are screwed. Not to have identified it as an issue over years was just unforgivable.
The AFL were apparently "worried" about St Kilda and dumped their sex pest reject on us to fix us up. Melbourne got a serious intervention with industry heavyweights. We are never quite terrible enough to get help but are so extraordinarily incompetent and still manage to stay of our feet which keeps the AFL off our back. It's a real shame that we didn't nose dive properly. We probably would have been already rebuilt with a huge AFL leg up.
Anyone who thinks Clark is worth more than a 2nd rounder is kidding themselves. That shouldn't be the measuring stick to judge anyone else's worth.Flanders would be way more than a second round pick. If we think Hunter Clark is worth more than a second, imagine what he'd be worth if he was performing. SF was pick 11 and just about to start his really consistent form. Since the chucked him on ball he's averaging around 30 possessions a game in 75% game time. Early in the season they threw him forward and kicked goals and still got good numbers. He's winning heaps of contested ball.
Henry was pick 9 in the same draft and was academy at Freo. How do you think Freo fans would react if they threw him away just as he's hit form?
Our best chance with Flanders is that we get end of first round compo for Gresham and that's enough or that and a late pick for points for their academy selections. The ideal would be Membrey or another guy wants to go up and retire on the GC and we get a player for free and pay the bulk of Membrey's wage for 2 years for them or something.
Henry I just can't see us negotiating enough for Bell to accept.
I don't know if it is true or not, but if it came out it would not surprise me one bit.I'm not that conspiracy driven. Neither were consistent performers in their draft year. Owens got moved around because he could do it all and never settled in a position. Even the bid that did come would have been because of his late season midfield games. Windhager came with more long range hype but had a stuffed back. Just a bit of luck on our part for once.
The ridiculous thing is that they changed the rules the one year that we had a high pick available and now look like they'll change again to give North a free hit. How any club is meant to operate functionally within a frame work that doesn't have any stability is beyond me. Like when we had a good set up with the second up ruck rule and they changed it so we had to scramble to find and recruit a ruck again. Planning should be done years out not on the fly. We can't operate with in existing parameters, if they start moving the target we can't remember which way up is.

21 and 22 we kicked off really well. However two drafts since 2017 really wont get the top four team we are looking for. If the AFL had given us a leg up any time before 2020 we would have squandered it I reckon.
Of all your sentences; even the most outrageously hyperbolic, analogous, and humorous, this is the one where we are in utter agreement. The ridiculous thing is that they changed the rules the one year that we had a high pick available and now look like they'll change again to give North a free hit. Anyone who thinks Clark is worth more than a 2nd rounder is kidding themselves. That shouldn't be the measuring stick to judge anyone else's worth.
Flanders is OOC and until 6 weeks ago, was unwanted by that club. They also aren't in the market for straight picks and will be doing deals with points in mind. His performances have upped his value but you could get him with a 2nd and late picks, or 2 seconds with something coming back our way. GC have no use for our first rounder so there would be no need to include it in a deal.
Henry is also OOC and played WAFL at times this season. Another sudden strike in form but even Freo supporters believe his value would be in the 20s. Bell cant hold Henry if he doesn't get a bounty for him so he will go on a reasonable deal to whichever club he choses.
Thankfully the last 2 years have been very good drafts - Owens, Windy, Nas & Poo. (Plus others)
Clark and Coffield have really set the re-build back. Pretty unlucky that both top 10 picks from the same draft haven't gone on, but it is what it is. Injuries certainly played a part.
Add another 2-3 talented kids this year and we are starting to build a talent pool that can drive us back up the ladder long-term.
Hopefully we’ve already cut a deal with the Goldie prior to Neds golden patch.Anyone who thinks Clark is worth more than a 2nd rounder is kidding themselves. That shouldn't be the measuring stick to judge anyone else's worth.

Henry is uncontracted though? I think it makes a difference here. But do hope we walk away if he starts his usual b/s.Flanders would be way more than a second round pick. Clubs who got early access to significant players due to AFL bullshit this century. I probably missed some or got the years wrong.
Also a couple played it straight and were screwed by early bids, Bulldogs ( Ayce Cordy ),GC ( Bowes ).

Should we count the FA compensation for clubs losing players to GC/GWS? That's doesn't happen if the clubs aren't coming into the league. A whole bunch of the Doggies success was built out of losing Harbrow and Ward to the new clubs - pretty sure they got Stringer and MacRae out of that.
And I think you've underestimated some of the Northern teams and their academy kids.

Unironically if Gringo had been our list manager over the last 5 years we'd have done very wellPeeps, can gringo2011 sub in for your list manager so we can get a 1st round pick for Henry? I've always been a big fan but I'm realistic a pick in the low 20s is the maximum I can hope and realistically it's probably low 30s. I've already accepted I'm going to be filthy at that trade.
I personally think Flanders is worth at least a top 20 pick (at least in points) so that GC can move pick 5 almost entirely to next year but that's a separate discussion
