Melican primarily plays the same role as Corr on the second/third kpf. Like Corr, only plays on the real big boys when there’s injuries and there’s no one else left to do the job.

Melican is only 193cm, shorter than Corr.
Just looked it up and saw he's 99kg. I'm pretty sure he does play on the gorillas. That's Steven May territory

Corr is 97kg.

As I said, like Corr, he only plays on the real big boys when there’s injuries and there’s no one else left to do the job. And it’s not like he does a great job when he does occasionally play on the biggest forward.

Steven May is a lot faster and possesses far greater footy smarts than Melican, and most other kpds.
He doesn't rate here because he only played 7 games in 2023, which means he doesn't meet the 15 1v1 minimum threshold. (his average has been 1.9 per game)

But from those 7 games, he has a lower 1v1 percentage loss rate than any of the key defenders of those players that appear above.

There isn't a great need for him in a backline that has Tom McCartin and obviously he has many limitations, but as an affordable stopper who can stop gorillas, at least until Logue gets back, and hopefully before our soon-to-be elite KPD draft recruit gets up to standard, he'd be okay for my money.
He doesn’t feature a ton in one-on-ones because he often gets flogged on the lead. The contested stand and wrestle stuff doesn’t happen as much as it did in the 90s.

Well lets be honest, given neither Phillips nor Melican are going to blow the budget, its hardly an either/or.
No, but list spots are likely going to be more of a squeeze and list balance comes into it at some point.

The best part of our compensation request to the AFL is that the commission will meet in grand final week to make the decision.

At that point free agency will not have opened, meaning it can't be taken into account, as it may not happen. We may match any offer and AFL can't make assumptions of what may happen in trade week when they are making their decision.

At a minimum I can see us getting pick 19. At best we will get Sanders.

Throw some money at one of the young rucks at GWS. Can’t remember names but they have two good young ones.

Briggs has gotten himself a very nice contract
Flynn though at 25 is starting to come into his prime and should be cheap enough

When and where is the above from K4E?

AFL site state Corr has been involved in 44 one on ones and has lost 9.

FAYI Ben McKay is 6th for Intercept Marks at 69 for the year. :stern look

Corr sits at equal 95th with only 21 Intercept Marks for the year. Behind the likes of Jack, Luke, Goldy and Griffen. The dude struggles to intercept mark. :stern look

Clearly Clarko has it in his head to play Comben back next season. Lets hope that a) Chom can actually get on the park and b) actually take a intercept mark. :stern look

Because otherwise if any of you thought that our backline has been a mess this year, well I have news for you coming into next year if we can't find anybody to replace McKay's ability to take an intercept grab. :stern look

Early dreams

Assistance - Ability to pre list Sanders
FA - McKay to stay but if not band 1 compo
WC trade - Pick 2 for 3 + 20
GC trade - F1 for 7 + Hollands

Pick 1 - Harley Reid
Pick 3 - Colby McKercher
Pick 7 (GC) - Nick Watson
Pick 14 (PA) - Archer Reid
Pick 20 (WC) - Ollie Murphy

Still left with severe lack of KPD for 2024 so options in order of preference
Kaine Baldwin
Nick Haynes
Esava Ratugolea
Caleb Marchbank
Lewis Melican

It's patchable but not ideal

All in all adding Sanders, Harley, McKercher, Watson, Reid, Murphy, Hollands and say Baldwin would considerably lift our levels of young talent.

Most unlikely to happen but for now I can dream 😘

Yes. Who do yah think Clarko will entice to the mighty NMFC? And don't you dare mention Melican. :stern look
Good Q. Bit of a stealth operator - McEvoys, Lakes and a few others were kept under wraps so time will tell.

Where do you get the idea that Clarko wants to play chom in the backline next year?! Think he is a great target uo forward to take a contested mark or bring to ground and hunt opp players in f50

Don’t know much about Melican and his 1v1 / intercept game but even as a stop gap along with Haynes salary dump would be my preference over the Baldwin. esa a will go port or hawks and marchbank in best 22 for Carlton now so will stay on.

But if the club could get GC first round and one of GWS with the Haynes salary’s dump, would really set us up nicely with 5/6 first round picks and 4 inside the top 10 with the later picks for trades including going after hunter Clark and Dylan stephens

It is from earlier in the year. One of those stats blokes on Twitter, though it was a while back. Not unimaginable that he lost 6 of the next 15 contests.

I would puke if Comben goes back. He needs continuity first and he’s such a natural chf. One advantage Phillips has is he is taller at 198cm and posts high intercept numbers for his role. Granted he’s playing vfl.

In a couple of Brady interviews it was pretty clear that they saw Chom as a fwd. Think they may have said yes he could play back but that's not where they saw him going fwd

We see Sheezel as forward/mid, it hasn’t hurt him or the team having a season playing back.
