It was in the west Australian, however I think it’s paywalled
There is no mention of any picks from any West Coast officials.

These are the only comments from ROB:

Last week West Coast list boss Rohan O’Brien said it would take an extraordinary offer to entertain giving away the pick a position he re-affirmed on Monday.

“We haven’t actually put a price on it because we feel like if we do that the perception is that we’ve got an appetite to trade it,” he said. “We’ll just wait and see what happens, and if someone gives us something that makes us turn our head we’ll consider it then.

West Coast split their top pick last year, trading the No.2 selection in return for No.8 and No.12.

“This time last year we didn’t think we were going to do that but things evolved and we thought it was the best option,” O’Brien said.

“That’s why we’re keeping an open mind at the moment.”

We are getting generational talents every year instead of once in a generation- JHF and Daicos in 2021, Will Ashcroft in 2022 and Harley Reid this year. It is like 100 year floods that are coming every year or two
Unfortunately that's actually happening.

Interested Raj, anyone from the Eagles on the record saying they want 2 and 3?

I don’t know the man but how much do you guys rate Tim Gossage as a journo?
He’d have some very handy contacts at WCE
Bit of an idiot but usually harmless

Fair call. Best I can gauge the 2 & 3 started with him on SEN with Derwayne today but he seemed to fumble through it even then.

krakouers if you don't mind please.

AFL Draft 2023: North Melbourne locked and loaded in pursuit for West Coast Eagles prized No.1 pick

North Melbourne’s bid to land Victorian prodigy Harley Reid has been boosted after the club officially received pick No.3 in next month’s draft as compensation for losing free agent key defender Ben McKay.
The decision came after he club declined to match Essendon’s six-year offer for the restricted free agent on Tuesday.
It means the Kangaroos now hold picks 2, 3, 15 and 21 in the first round this year as well as their own first-rounder next year and two end-of-first-round compensation picks to put on the table in negotiations with West Coast to try to pry away the top pick that would give them access to No.1 prospect Reid.

The West Australian understands there is now a strong belief that the Eagles will keep the pick and draft Reid, unless the Kangaroos come with a Godfather offer of at least their first picks in this year’s draft, which appears unlikely.

North Melbourne could look to upgrade pick 15 to 11 as part of a trade with Gold Coast, who are desperate for draft point capital to match early bids for their talented academy products.

West Coast have remained steadfast that they would not put a price on the No.1 pick and The West Australian understands as of early Tuesday, there had been no official offers from other clubs.

The Eagles don’t have to rush on deciding if they part ways with the prized pick because a pick-only trade period runs from October 23 until November 10, while they can swap picks on draft night just 10 days later.

Meanwhile, Luke Shuey has officially joined the Eagles’ coaching panel for 2024.

The former skipper, who hung the boots up this year after 248 games, will take the role of stoppage coach in a reshuffle that has current assistants Matthew Knights (forwards coach), Jarrad Schofield (midfield) and Luke Webster (backs) all in new roles.

“Anyone who has crossed paths with Luke knows what a fantastic role model and ambassador for the club he has been across a storied career and we are thrilled to add him to our coaching team,” Eagles football boss Gavin Bell said.

“Whilst doing everything he could to get the most out of his body towards the end of his playing career, Luke was also diligently preparing for his transition into coaching and he spent time in the coaches box gaining a different perspective on the game.

“His expertise around stoppage craft is outstanding and retaining that knowledge and his understanding of our players will be invaluable.”

Five-time Subiaco premiership star Kyal Horsley will be the fourth coach in five seasons for the WAFL Eagles after he was announced as the successor to Rob Wiley, who stood down after two seasons at the helm.

“Kyal’s energy and passion for educating our younger players has shone through in his three years at the club and after Rob Wiley stepped aside it is a great opportunity for Kyal to take his coaching skillset to the next level in charge of his own side,” Bell said.

“With Luke joining, some other changes of roles – including Jacob’s - and the addition of Mathew Innes as high-performance manager, we believe that refresh of our Football Department will help us get the most out of our players next season.”

Former Eagles defender Jacob Brennan will be the forward line development coach, while Tom Morrison (backline development coach) and Ryan Turnbull (ruck coach) will continue in their respective roles.

I expect anyone who is looking at a low probability shot at goal to look first if someone is in the clear in a better position before having a wild swing at goal unless he can nail them 75% of the time and from that video he didn't get remotely close most of the time.

Boomer? LT was more medium. Abraham before Boomer. Pickett was a small forward. Curtis is probably the first smallish forward that has any goal sense we picked up since we lost Boomer.

I dunno, for a top 3 hype I had greater expectations, could just be me. I think Collard kicked a lot of goals and is athletically more gifted and he is a borderline first rounder.
Yeah Lance Collard is 185 vs Watson 170...l think they are two different players at the SF and Watson was the leading goal kicker for the U18 carnival....I be more worried about the article in Draft review thread "The question mark, Jones said, would be whether Collard could learn to adapt to the extra heat and attention he will cop at AFL level.
He had been prone to reacting to niggle and close checking but had shown signs he was improving that side of his game towards the end of the season."

Watson's size will always be his greatest deficiency but there is no figjam about him in my eyes...unlike JHF, he sparks up the team, he has all the traits of a Stephen Milne...the best tip rat l've seen.

But, lets keep sitting back and marvel at the Kosies, Papley's, Weightman's, Rankines, Greene's, Schultz's and all these other small forwards that continually smack us whilst we kick to Souva/Chom/CCJ and the ball spills out and wish 'why don't we recruit a clever small' whilst looking at the Hansen II and zilch!!
PS. Watson would fit in great with his 2022 Vic Metro mates on the list...not to mention Reid as well;)

So another opinion piece

Gee I feel for Zane Duursma.

The kid has a trajectory heading into draft time on par with the Bont and Steele Sidebottom in their draft years and still he gets kicked around..

Sorry Zane but your brother's last couple of years of crapness has really blown the tyres on the Duursma name.

FWIW I would take you in a heartbeat young fella!

Have never rated him but that’s actually a very good call re the trajectory

And that would be a great result - WC get 2 picks inside the top 20 - 1 and 20 - and we get 5 picks.

I know what side of the ledger I want to be on that deal.

When WC ring us the night before draft night and say ...how about we swap 1 and 2 and you give us the 2 2024 pp's you have. We say 'we will give you one of them as we really really wanted Curtin and now you have stuffed us up' - they say great and we move on with pick 1 and take Reid and Kercher.

I mean, really, these ex footballers in charge of negotiations like it is the UN - they really need to hand it over to professionals.

Queries for me are 1) how does he fit in from a list profile perspective? Mid-sized half forward is probably not what we need atm. 2) is he likely to fill out a bit more once he gets onto a list? I don't want another Curtis Taylor situation.

My query when seeing those comments is when we drafted Will Walker the same things were said, his trajectory was on the same level of Bontompelli. It’s a worthy risk at 23, not so much at 3.

Yes, they are very different players and Collard has a lot of questions marks, but he has talent and he is a lot cheaper than pick 3 to acquire.

Darcy Wilson, someone else we could get with a later first round pick, quick, has endurance, can kick goals has good disposal has good athletic traits, also another around 185cm so should be able to play different roles.

Watson's size will always be his greatest deficiency but there is no figjam about him in my eyes...unlike JHF, he sparks up the team, he has all the traits of a Stephen Milne...the best tip rat l've seen.

This is my major concern, can count on one hand how many sub 180cm players make great AFL players in the current environment, they don't tag in the juniors, don't zone, don't press, don't really do a whole lot of defending, it is a showcase for what you can do offensively for the most part, this isn't the AFL environment, it is why Powell doesn't get 40+ possessions at this level.

I don't care who the club takes, but I have reservations about drafting someone that small with pick 3. I agree with you, we haven't made much of an effort in terms of recruiting talented small forwards, Papley was pick 14, that to me is a reasonable spot to take someone who is going to be pigeonholed into one role and if he can't get the ball at AFL level it isn't the end of the world. I don't think it is wise (imo) to use pick 3 on a risky type of player and a 170cm small forward imo is risky, like rucks and KPP that don't have versatility.

If we pick him and it turns out well then fantastic, if he doesn't... once we start going up that ladder it is going to be a very long time until we see a pick 3 again. Picks 14ish will be far easier to get.
