Any way Geelong match Ports offer for a year..and he gets to FA? The issue (if I were Port)... no certainty that Ports offer is there at the end of 2024.
Yeah well that is also a possibility but one that I think is the least likely of all.

I doubt Sav would do us any favors and take a one-year deal and forego that long-term security.

If he has a shocker of a year... It's all over for him.

We'd still be pestering him to sign and probably up our current offer though... He could stay (if that's what we truly want).

North would absolutely be all over him trying to get him to flip to them and go into the PSD (they can handle that contract for sure).

Even if he doesn't go into the PSD North could still snag him in the ND ahead of Port.

Hawks could pull a swifty and trade up to get in front of Port's #25 on draft night If Sav went into the ND... Even though we'd get nothing for him, I'd love to see it just to see Port roll themselves for being tight.

There is so many ways it can still go down... Obviously making a trade is the most likely.

I really don't think Port would like the idea of not getting it done and risking the above scenarios.

I think Port has the most to lose here... Sav will get mega $$$ whatever way it goes.

I don't think Sav owes Port anything after this failed to get the job done in trading for him 2 years in a row... I don't think we would do that to a player.

Sometimes you have no choice but to except what the other side is offering even though you think he is worth more. This is one of those times.

?

There's always a choice

In this case we've told Port that we're not going to accept a straight trade of pick 25 for Ratugolea - so stop wasting our time except for a trade which involves a first round pick

Schultz is an underrated player but a fair bit of downside risk with the F1 involved. If they win the flag again then it will be a good deal but small forward doesn't scream to me like an area of need for the Pies so if they do have a hangover it could bite.
Top 3 small forward that plays a pivotal role in a teams success.
Just like Stengle or a Close at full flight.
A Pick between 15-19 for a player that will play 100 quality games from round 1 2024.
No need to wait 2 years of development.
Really good get. Bastards!! God I hate Collingwood. lol

Same here.
I would have let him go.
But on all accounts is that he is a very much loved man within the confines of Kardinia Park.
Played through injury all year. He will bounce back.

And if it does reach the draft I don't think it bothers us.

If we're prepared to go that far in negotiations and risk getting any return, it's a clear indication that we don't rate this draft and believe we can pick up whoever we want with later picks.

Also shows clubs going into future trades that we are not ones to be playing chicken with.

I remember a while ago after Port got nothing for Nick Stevens... someone showed a graphic of their trades in years just after the Stevens thing and Port got a better end of just about all of them... It showed clubs that they are willing to let a good player and a usable pick walk off into the sunset and it benefited them long term (obviously it doesn't seem that way initially)

Sometimes reputation of doing what you say is better than acting tough and then folding last minute... Actually I'd say all the time it is better that way for the long term.

I have been on this for weeks.

Port wants Sav... Badly... They can pay up for him... If it costs us a meh pick by driving a hard bargain for him then that's the way the cookie crumbles, it will let people trading with us in the future know that there's a new sheriff in town.

This draft is no good at all... Victoria got beaten by the Allies in the Nationals... That says plenty in itself.

#25 that will turn into #30 isn't a pick I'll be shattered about losing.

2 days to ditch Sav .

Not when they are trying to get 3-4 deals done. They don't have the assets.
If Sav wasn't clearly the most important piece they were trying to get in then I'd agreed, but he is.

If Port go about making the other trades and having Sav left to get done on in the last 30 mins then we can see what they have left to give up.

If we play hardball and miss out I'll be ok with it... I actually would prefer it to folding last moment.

Essendon have said straight swap or no deal

Mmm it's a 10 pick downgrade, reckon they'd accept that when push came to shove.

I mean, you're saying we'll blink but then saying Essendon wouldn't? Same could be said for either club and their demands. Difference is, Essendon have a player they want on the other end, that Port can just keep under contract. Much different scenario.

I'm in the minority... I actually think BZT has more value than Duursma.

Sure Duursma in his first season is way better... but that was a long time ago.

BZT is a very decent plug and play backman... He just can't be playing on monsters (cough cough Sav).

In saying that... I want Port to "win" that trade purely because the more assets they hold the better for us.
