The irony is we all know how Hawkins went when forced to play ruck at the start of his career. It certainly wasn’t good, but it doesn’t mean he was a bad, selfish or inherently lazy play.

Yet when Grundy is forced to play forward..
Asking a baby giraffe to play in the ruck when he is 21 years old is very different than asking a prime-aged ruckman to play a hybrid forward/ruck role.

If Grundy didn’t want to play that role he should never have agreed to go to Melbourne.

Nick Riewoldt style… yeah right. He would be cooked after 10 minutes. He is a leading type player from full forward.
Before we brought Cameron in, Hawkins did roam outside of the arcs a lot and would receive on the wing or even half back. His goal average would've been higher if he stayed deep ala 2022, but we needed him to be a dual FF/CHF. The issue is when he got it outside of 50 we then had no one for him to kick it to. Maybe Rohan in 2019 but that was about it.

And the interesting thing watching our forward set up this season when all of Cameron, Hawkins & Rohan were playing, it was Rohan who was the preferred option to play out of the square

Hawkins often still plays a little bit higher with others preferred to play deeper in the 50

Depends firstly on whether you believe it was indeed a 'seizure'.

Also depends on what you believe caused it.

Think you'll find a lot of people are cynical about those points.

Then he's gone and smashed car mirrors etc.

Think the indicators are there.
Yeah I don’t think he smashed the indicators. Just the wipers. 😂😂🤣🤭😆

On Gettable, it's mentioned we have a fair amount of interest for our pick 8 including interest from Carlton, Crows, Norf, Sydney and West Coast.

Got potential for a big return here if we play our cards right here on trade night if we aren't looking to take anyone.

Depends on what you class as big return. Carlton cant offer more than 22 28 and a late r1 next year-nowhere near enough.
Syd may offer 12 and a future 1st..an ok return but not a great one.
If adel offer 10 and 20 or 10/14 and a future 1st that would be a decent return (and i can see us doing it).
We are only really going to get a 'big return' if wce or nm offer us a future 1st for 8 as that would be a likely top 5 pick.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

If it’s WC I’d be cheeky and request a FF plus 23. Who knows, they might jump up the ladder next season… 😉

Why is oliver considered a “train wreck”?

Because he had a seizure?

Nope, this is why:

Combine that with old footage of him being munted and putting holes in walls, random photos taken of him alone at the pokies, tattooing his own foot and it getting infected, footage of arguing with coaches, a confrontation last year with a resident after he broke windscreen wipers off cars, and him seeming pissed when he did an interview a few weeks back post GF - and it adds up to a player who is not in control of their life right now.

Doesn't help that his coach is a rumoured addict - gambling and otherwise -, and that Steven May is a loose unit too getting into public drunken brawls with his teammates.

Something is not right down at the Demons, and they are seeming VERY much like the Eagles of '06 right now.

100 %. Bartlett was right but he was driven out.

I will tell you who is also 100% right is Farmer To Goggin - i assume he might have a small connection to the MFC - because he did just suggest quietly that the controls their might be a tad loose - but it was in their flag winning year or just afterwards

And Melb is basically no different to other AFL Clubs - in that if they are winning flags - all is good - and that type of behaviour can get swept under the carpet a bit

However if they are coming up a bit short - like they have - back to back straight sets exits - then the blowtorch really gets turned on full bore onto that type of behaviour .

Agree, Crows/North/West Coast that involves a f1 is what I'd be starting with.

Ya. North would be thinking they can grab it without trading their own FR1. They'd be thinking they can get it with a mix of later picks this year.

Wouldn't touch Adelaide's FR1 with a 10 foot pole by itself. They're likely to win 9 of their 11 home games and a few on the road for mine. Again however I think it's more likely they're trying to get it with a suite of picks from their hand this year.

WC doesn't have the draft capital to trade for it outside of their FR1 at this point in time. They're future pick would be amazing. I think what might be on the cards however is they use the picks gained from moving out from the first spot in this draft.

Just my 2 cents

Not by itself, I meant f1 would be their starting point. I would want it with either 10 or 14 from this year too, preferably 10. So Crows f1 and 10 would be what I'd want.

It just depends on what's there on trade night and how bad clubs want him, but I would only move it for overs so Swans and Carlton would be out of the running for me.

It'll be fascinating to watch what Mackie and co come up with.

I can’t see north or WCE trading a future first for pick 8 when they’re odds on to finish last next season.

Agree it seems like a long shot, but if West Coast have an interest in 8, I don't think they have any other currency to get it unless they are trading out pick 1 for multiple picks and offer some of that to us which seems like long odds at the moment.

I don't disagree, but he's not a well boy at the moment, and he's definitely not what our club or more easily influenced younger players - Tyson Stengle as an example - need.

At his best he's an absolute A grader, but he's going the way of Ben Cousins at the moment.

It was tongue in cheek, but if the player is talented enough all clubs including ours can easily look the other way. They did with Johnson, Stokes, Stengle, etc.

Oh I absolutely do. It's every bit as legitimate as 12 week "calf injuries".

Haha that would be brave with how many over 30s they have and their list issues..bottom 4 for mine.
Obviously if we swap 8 for an FF1 for a team we expect to be bottom 4 then we arent getting an extra pick as well. Whereas if its a team we expect to play finals (melbourne, adelaide, possibly freo would be candidates for this) then we would want an extra pick from them in the deal too.
