Re my referencing Mick Ablett's comments i didn't actually name any posters. I repeat didn't name any posters.

Naturally i continue to hope the mighty Cats will unearth a hidden gem - as I'm sure we all do.

I noticed Werribbe announced a big group of players had signed on for next season. Doesn’t mean those players won’t get drafted but I did notice Mannagh wasn’t one of them.
Makes me think he’s more likely to be drafted, could be a player we look at at the end of the draft.

I’d assume we might look at some mature players with those end of draft picks or perhaps will a list spot with a delisted player.

It would be very tempting to just take Curtin if he’s available.

It would be. On one hand i think he will be a good kpd and we need a good kpd. But on the other side of it we have historically drafted a lot of our defenders with later picks and its easier to get good defenders late than good mids late (and we need mids too).

Our decision probably depends on if another club offers us overs. I can see clubs like adelaide or sydney offering us a fair bit for curtin just like i can see melb or hawks (clubs that need front half talent) offering us a fair bit for caddy. If we get overs we sell if not we probably take him.

I think mannagh will get taken somewhere between p30 and r1 rookie draft. Just depends on who takes him.
I do agree we might take a couple of mid 20s mature age guys given thats the age gap on our list.

The way I’m looking at the draft now is that if Sanders, Curtin or Caddy are available we use the pick 8 otherwise we trade out. We get a year of development into one of those 3 players that all fill list needs for us.

I have a strong feeling though that it will be O’Sullivan that is left to us.

Sanders i think we definitely take. Curtin probably. Caddy im 50/50 on depends on what we get offered.
The only way they are probably all gone is if its
1- wce reid
2 gc walter (matched bid)
3-nm mckercher
4-nm-duursma
5-haw watson
6-wbd sanders
7-melb caddy
8-gws curtin
9-geel

I cant see sanders getting past gws.
If nm dont take curtin he gets to gws as no one in between needs him. Would gws take him or osullivan (who im sure they would love or trade the pick) or will they trade 7? Clubs might trade ahead of us to try and get 7 if they think we take curtin.
If duursma or watson get to melb (which probably happens if nm take curtin) i reckon they take them in which case caddy gets to us imo (i cant see gws picking a vm metro player with the go home factor he has)

In the above scenario we get left with osullivan or wilson (plus bidding on read and croft which im sure we will bid on one of) unless we trade back a bit and try to pick up a demattia/roberts/tholstrup/edwards type in the teens.

Reminds me so much of Bont. Know that tag has been given to a host of tall mids but he’s as close as I’ve seen.

Yeah I'm not huge on O'Sullivan either.

If we take him, so be it, and I'll support him regardless. The club know better than we do.

However, at this stage he feels a bit Fischer McAsey to me. The best of a poor class, and would be seen more as a project in a better draft.

Curtin would be far more exciting. Genuine Pavlich style player who can be thrown anywhere on the ground and star.

Even ZZ feels like he's got the higher ceiling. If I was forced to bet on a bust from the top 10, he'd be it.

The way he moves, and uses his reach/leverage looks like Bont. I get why there's a question mark over can he be a great KPD or great Mid, and that he doesn't necessarily have a nailed on position. I just think he looks like a great player. Pick him, play him and see where it leads.

I don’t think he’ll be a KPD. He hasn’t got the size. To me, he’s worst case an effective third tall, play maker from defence. Best case, a bloody good tall mid that will be a very special player.

My thoughts exactly.

There was similar said about Reuben Ginbey and he played basically all year as an inside mid and was very good.

I just haven't seen anything from him that makes me think he can make it as a mid, is there any games in particular where he showed these traits?

Watching the Nats games where grant you he didn’t play his best footy every game, but he still showed that he can find the footy. And his movement, to me, makes me think he can play midfield. Until he grew, he played as a mid. And most importantly, he sees himself as eventually being a mid.

Was an average mid then grew and played kpd.

Sounds like you're describing SDK not Bontempelli

I think his disposal will keep him far away from the midfield.

I see a bit of the Kolodjashnij in him.

Bont himself was an average mid as a junior, people are very quick to make their mind up on 18 year old kids these days, especially when most of the judgement comes from 5 minute highlight packages..

I don’t follow the juniors much, so can’t comment on specific players. But I’m a little reluctant to trade into next year (unless it’s WCE or north) only because we miss getting that elite kid in our list for a year. I think our midfield needs bolstering right now so I’d prefer not to wait, and instead try get someone who could play a role in the next couple of years while we’ve still got Hawkins, danger etc.

Stevie J draft interview. I’m not sure who or which club he is interviewed by. Possibly Richmond.

This gives a good insight to the psychology in the interview process. I found it interesting how he described himself as a player isn’t how I would describe him. Did he work hard to become the player we all now know or did an 18 year old Stevie J not know his own game enough to articulate it better?
How much attention should be paid to the interview when assessing these kids?
I know an 18 year old TheMenz Gallery wouldn’t have answered these questions better than I would now.

If you didn’t know what you know now about him would you consider drafting him based on the answers given?

You seriously think whenever these stories do the rounds (no matter what club) that the 2-3 month "injuries" that pop up are always legitimate?
I have no clue as to what is real and what is spin nor do I claim to.

You made a sarcastic remark about 3 month calf injuries not being real.

I only suggested that calf injuries can extend to 3 months and to perhaps use a better "unreal" event to make your regularly applied sarcasm more accurate.

The thing that stands out is how amateurish that feels. He was taken at pick 24 so must've been pretty well known. And they're asking him stuff like whether he played for the Bushrangers last year and how he got injured.

Every club would have those details on 200+ draft prospects now. Maybe they did know and were just letting him get into the conversation but the club seemed about as prepared as they would be for a blind date.

It's not sarcastic. Of course real calf injuries exist.

It's a clear remark about the obvious spin clubs engage in when they try to cover up for players. Judging from the responses I'm not the only one who thinks this.

I bet some clubs were doing these interview only because other clubs were.

Richmond's recruitment was famously underfunded up until the end of the Terry Wallace era, highlights include drafting a player who was iliterate with a top 10 pick. They didn't realise for more than 12 months.

I think at the time our club made an effort to reach out to teachers of the players we were strongly considering

Melbourne during in the post Dean Bailey era selected a top 5 pick based off a strong endorcement from Gary Lyon. Which became a bust.

A few years later they grab Oliver with a top 5 pick even though he didn't play at the championships
