pains me to say. But Izak Rankine is my tip to be first time AA

With Weitering out, he does have big shoes to fill in the early rounds. Still, lots of competition for that spot.
Gov just needs to stay fit, but his biggest hurdle is that he plays for a likely bottom 2 side. Hard to get a defender from a team that loses most of their games into the AA team, even if he might deserve it on ability alone. If he can get back to his best he would be an easy pick though

What does Hugh McCluggage have to do to get a gig?

As a bit of fun here's my very very early prediction. Most people just pick the majority of players from last year when doing this exercise, which never ends up being the case. So I am going to force myself to include 12 first time All Australians and cap back to backs at 6. That's the average from the last 2 years. Makes an interesting team.

B: Coleman Weitering McGovern (J)
HB: Martin Andrews Scheezel
C: Gulden Green Walsh
HF: Petracca Curnow Greene
F: Rankine Larkey JUH
OB: Marshall LDU Daicos
IC: McLuggage Rowell Short Miller

Instinctively there are a heap of others I wanted to include but historic averages show that alot of the guys we consider locks won't make it.

more than 2 North players in the side for the first time in 25 years would be quite something.

Not going to compare every side, but looking at my own team's best chances would probably be Martin or Bolton on the HFF or FP in Bolton's case, or possibly Tim Taranto as one of the mids/bench spot.

Not likely to have much representation but they would be our most likely chances. Bolton I think is a pretty decent shot.

North really should be on the rise in 2024. Your midfield had a lot of quality in it, even if defence is very much lacking.

Midfield has quality, though they are largely young and inexperienced, and in some cases completely unproven. Backline is sub-par and will have some serious scores put up against it in 2024.

I don't see them rising in 2024, I think they'd have to have everything go right for them in the middle of the park in particular for that to be a chance. You're asking a lot of a young midfield group and I think it's extremely unlikely that works in the short term..

Bolton and Taranto your best chances for sure. Can't see it happening with Dusty at 32/33.

I wouldn't discount Vlastuin from having a career year and being a consideration. Yze has come from coaching systems that value intercept defenders exceptionally highly.

Only a portion of the backline is sub par.

The other portion of it is potentially elite.

Sheezel, Fisher and McKercher will be a damaging running trio.

Goater is in for a massive year also, will be one of the breakout players for North in 24'.

If we can uncover just 1 or 2 AFL standard talls, it's nowhere near as bad as everyone is making out, considering the other 70% of it is chock full of top end talent.

Yes. The most important portion.

The running trio are nice to have but they ain’t stopping the big boys.

“Chock full of top end talent”.

Who are you talking about?

Sheezel yes. McKercher maybe. Who else?

Hasn’t played a game yet.

I get the optimism, but it’s no certainty just yet.

Who were the others you included?

I didn't describe him as an AA, i described him as "a top end talent" though didnt I?

Are you saying a player who was universally considered the best performed player across most levels last year that possesses an absolutely elite athletic profile who only went #2 behind one of the most hyped prospects in a decade doesn't qualify for that description?

i am saying he hasn't played a game of senior footy yet, so talented as he may be, we're yet to see it at the highest level.

He may be amazing, he may struggle. Only time will tell. It's not a criticism of him, nor am I suggesting he won't make it.

How come you're reluctant to provide the other names? I've asked a few times now. I've agreed with Sheezel, and even if I conceded McKercher (given it's more likely than not he'll make it)...who are the others?
