I seem to recall us recently winning 3 premierships by trading in a ruck and KPF late. Who are these teams drafting reams of project talls and reaping the benefits a decade later?

Absolutely don’t want to post negatively at the moment, we’ve had a beyond terrific draft, but funnily enough we have way too many key forwards on the list now. Who would have ever thought we’d ever be in this position after so many years of crying out for 1 key forward. Does Sims project closer to a ruck that can go forward than a forward that can chop out in the ruck? Happy to be educated on this, I don’t know Sims well enough. Easy to say he can replace Samson, but he’s under contract for another 3 years. At the moment he’s our back up ruck for the foreseeable future.

Fawcett kind of has to be delisted next year. He's a low pick and we’ve just drafted 3 from important draft positions. Seems very harsh.

Small/medium forwards: Hotton, Mansell, MRJ, Lalor, Green, Clarke … needs work but has potential

Key Defenders: Balta, Gibcus, Trainor, Miller, Young, Blight….

Small/medium defenders: Brown, Short, Tresize, Banks, Broad, Vlastuin, Smith

Wings: Campbell, Ross, Banks, Hugo

Mids: TT, Hopper, Lalor, Smillie, McAuliffe, Hotton, Ross.

I’m honestly not sure what you’re talking about given we’ve got 2 x top-10 picks next year to solve any glaring needs. So almost certainly an elite midfielder and another goal kicking centre/fwd mid.

Then after 2025/26 we can assess our needs and resolve with trades / free agents. And there’ll be demand for excess talls we have in trades.

IMO our balance is pretty perfect on the back of 1 x year of our rebuild.

MRJ will need to go mid because we have 0 outside mids, so that's 1 outside mid.

This leaves us with a lone mediocre small forward in Mansell (who is playing out of position) and that's it as far as small forwards.

Add in a mediocre winger in HRS and a rapidly aging and out-of-form Short as a back pocket and that's our entire list as far as outside players who can get the ball moving quickly via run or disposal (in the juniors Brown could create off hbf but he's not playing there).

Even generously saying 3 of Banks, Clarke, Hotton, Smith, Green, Campbell come good we're still maybe 6 Izak Rankines short of the outside ball-use and run that say the Giants have on their list.

Compare this to our 2020 list where we had say Baker, Castagna, Higgins, Markov, Rioli, Lambert, Bolton, Edwards, Aarts, Stack, Houli/Pickett, a much better Short, a better McIntosh, Graham (slow but at least a two-way runner) etc.

All 26 or younger. Yze now has a group to form the spine of our next premiership and the fight for spots is going to drive competition and development. I've put in bold the only players I'd have locked into the side from R1 next year.

Next 2-3 years is going to be so exciting to watch these players coming through.
