It's a shame there wasn't a ready made ruckman in the SANFL we could've got dirt cheap as a back up at the expense of any number of players who will be delisted at the end of 2025 anyway. We are a low door frame away from disaster this season.
Strachan was probably the best ruck in the SANFL for the last few years though.

Conway and De Koning were both first round picks. “Cheap” is a stretch.

People throw 'first round pick' around like headlines use 'afl star'. Pick 24 and pick 19, technically first round in the year, but in reality they are reasonably speculative picks.

Hasn’t recent discussions brought into question the usefulness of RUCKS ?

Apart from Turray…. we’ve had Murray rucking b4 as well & done an ok job

We would only need a temporary flll

We basically list to Richmond because we had a crap ruck and they had a good one.

I know a bunch of parrots maintain we don’t need a ruck but if that truly was the case, why even have one on our list at all.

I don’t think we should be paying a million bucks for one but you need a decent one, a back up and a developing one… not a bunch of part timers putting no pressure on an incumbent who doesn’t perform

We lost to Richmond because EVERYONE had a bad day.

Strachan was the best tall on the ground before he was gassed halfway through the 2nd quarter.

While true, I do not think a Strachan injury would be a significant reason our season would be at risk.
It's the prospect of a ROB injury that we are talking about, that Strachan is there for

Though I'd be happy enough to throw Toby Murray in there, even ahead of ROB to be honest given how inexplicably badly he started last season

Are you seriously suggesting he had Nankervis's measure at any stage?

And how do you explain Grundy absolutely destroying him in the Swans game?

Then ROB easily winning the HO's against Grundy and at least being very competitive ALL game in round 24?

God you go off on tangents dont you.

Where did I mention Grundy at any stage ??

Lets be honest, Strachan was already not up to it fitness wise. A 4 month interruption to his conditioning means he is done. LTI him and get someone in via SSP. What use is he if when called upon he is good for 2q's max?
Putting a player on the LTI list doesn't make us eligible for the SSP. Only the Inactive List does that, and Strachan isn't eligible for the Inactive List.

I think by now, the tea leaves are suggesting we'll trade for a RUCK in the 2025 trade period .....too late now to draft one

Its terrible for him personally as it really could be the end to his AFL aspirations, but it certainly opens the door up to grab a replacement and if it was me, I'd be calling Harry Boyd right now as he will be very good for the SANFL side. I am sure he will be competitive at AFL level when needed as whilst he is a bit short, he is a powerful fella and uses his body positioning very well. Also is good at ground level for a big guy too. Thne address the longer term ruck succession at the end of next year.

So you think Thilthorpe and N Murray are legitimate ruck options bearing in mind both are best 22 KPP's who have both had serious knee issues? Not for mine.

Now where did you hear me say Thilthorpe ?

Please quote me ....but don't misquote me !!

We could heavily encourage a retirement

We don't have the list spot for Harry Boyd unless Strachan goes on the LTI and then announces his retirement?

Boyd is a Shepparton/Murray Bushrangers product so you would think a back up at role at the Saints would be more enticing than that role at the Crows....and given the Saints have a list spot.

Maybe the 204cm athletic Saints rookie Max Heath would be a worthwhile target given he's out of contract end of 2025. also very handy when used forward. Time to get in his ear?

There's been plenty of talk on this board as using Thilthorpe in ruck with the extra midfielder yada yada talk.

Neither KPP should go anywhere near the ruck and certainly not in centre or around the ground ball ups.

Out of interest, how do you explain ROB taking 4 marks in the first 4 rounds of the season?

Adelaide 0-4, season over
Senior player
No 1 ruck
In our leadership group

???

It's interesting to me that the club had no issue with it whatsoever. Just carry on, no biggie.

I just find it utterly unfathomable that we can be so tolerant of such a disgraceful non-effort.
