Teaching my eldest boy how to cook. Hopefully he’s learning some life skills and enjoying it as much as I am.

My mum taught me to cook pretty early on, i could do the family dinner by the time I was 10. Handy for my current household as my wife didn't get taught to cook by her mum (and honestly she wouldn't have much to teach her ha ha)

I didn’t learn until I was an adult but he’s asked me to teach him. He’s only 7 so we’re starting with the basics of knife safety etc but last night we made pad see ew together and he was so proud of himself!

Looking forward to him cooking family dinner in three years 😎

How's hubby go in the kitchen?

I can cook several dishes but I will concede, my wife does almost all the cooking. Anything BBQ'd is me.

Husband is not welcome in the kitchen 😂
He hates following recipes or doing anything that requires more than a couple of steps. I love summer because he does bbq and it gives me a break. Having said that, he does ALL the dishes so I can’t complain.

He and I sound very similar in that regard :tearsofjoy:

My mum taught me how to cook right before I moved here in 1975. After living at university and home up to that time, I really needed lessons and recipes if I were to survive my great adventure. The cooking lessons paid off later for my mum when I did all of the cooking as her caregiver when she no longer could. She even admitted that a twist on some of her old recipes made them better than the original. She used to eat my chicken noodle soup for lunch every day in her last years. It was the last meal she had before going into hospice care when she was 90.

My dad even admitted that my potato pancakes were better than his mother's. The ratio of flour to milk was most important.

My son is a good cook - I encouraged him from an early age and he will when home volunteer to cook.

My brother learnt to cook because like many of that time, food was all cooked to an inch of its life

He lived with us while he was studying and the kids were distraught when he moved out because they had to go back to my cooking

I’m not awful just not on his level

Husband is useless - he will starve to death when I’m gone. Frustrates me that he won’t even try. I even did the whole Hello Fresh thing so he could learn but nope.

I Blame his mother and sisters who molly-coddled him initially and then myself because I enabled him

Out of our family I was the only one who wanted to learn how to cook. My sisters have had to learn but I was the only one cooking meals for the family when I was a teenager. It helps that I enjoy it and find it therapeutic.

I can cook, I get the flavours right..... but presentation isn't always good. As one example, I can make a pizza, but as I like to cut the crusts off after cooking it - I never do perfect circles.... thus the pizza ends up looking like the shape of a stop sign :p

I love making lasagne om nom nom nom.

Presentation is a waste of time. If you aren't serving up food in a restaurant then it makes no sense to waste time on presentation. Just chuck it on the plate and be done with it.

JUST DON’T PUT THE STEAK OR THE FISH ON TOP OF THE CHIPS!

I don't care as much if it's just for me (still tastes delicious). Just self conscious if I'm cooking and eating with others.
