Well, that's not true. He's certainly got an amazing highlight or two.

His issue is more consistency, not a very occasional highlight.
Like lying over a ball when the game is on the line.

Hope he stays at Essendon!

Though looks more like a Port player.

I put Andy's career above Rankine's career to date ....but both have elite skills of finding space in ball-up congestion

Who wouldn't?

Rankine is almost 25. By that stage McLeod was a 3 time All Australian, 2 time norm smith medalist and won the clubs B&F in a premiership year. He had also finished 3rd and 2nd in the Brownlow and won the AFL MVP award.

Rankine is still 90% potential. His career highlight to date is a 4th place finish in the B&F of a team that came 10th.

We haven't yet seen the best of Rankine in the midfield.

He has improvement still in him.

Time is ticking.

Rankine had injuries at GCS and easily would have made the AA and odd on winning B&F last year had he not been injured and suspended and has played in shit sides. Rankine already has 100% potential, just need to have no more hamstring injuries.

Betts, as brilliant as he was, always seemed to be trying really hard. Rankine doesn't seem to break a sweat. Not to put Betts down, he was a gun. But there's something effortless about what Rankine does.

Not sure I agree with that. Betts made difficult skills look very easy

"Hasn’t even got a decent in-game highlight let alone a good career"

Insert a decent in-game highlight.
Yeah, he has had some highlights, but if you watch his games they are too irregular.

Hey #bigman , we've had a history of (often enough) poor goal kicking from set shots.

I've read all your reports with a genuine enthusiasm. They're gold standard preseason info. But I don't remember any comment about goal kicking practice. Have you seen any of this outside of incidental game play scenario.

I can't imagine a KPF not having dedicated practise sessions on this very precise skill. Just like a tennis player would practice their gameplay but would dedicate a time purely on their serve.

Additionally, you made a comment earlier that it appeared that Ben Keays appeared to be looking for his right foot to help him develop an additional string in his bow. Have you noticed any guys working with coaches on individual skills like this example?

Keep up the good work mate. You're greatly appreciated here. Cheers

I remember andy mcleod just turning players inside out and was just so sublime with his skills. Arguably izak might even have andy covered in the skill department but he needs to keep his body sound so he can be as impactful. An absolute rare talent.

Andrew McLeod could hit a 40m low dart to a teammate off his left leg. Rankine doesn't seem to have much faith in his opposite side, but he's fast and good enough to get onto his right side. He did ping a hammy using his right when he should have used his left though. Reckon he could be a 25 touch and 2 goal a game player.

Cheap, no.

But I'd be curious whether Essendon tries too hard to keep him. It might be like us and ROB - just be happy trying someone new.
Provided he hasn't re-signed by the end of the season.

How hard they try to keep him will all likely come down to what compo they think the AFL w3ill give for him and that would hinge on how substantia the $$$'sl the club was offering.

Can't see them not wanting to retain him given when fit he is their 1st choice Ruckman ahead of Nick Bryan and common sense tells you Todd Goldstein is only going to be depth in 2025 and gone at season's end. That leaves Nick Bryan out of contract 2025 and rookie Vigo Visentini also out of contract 2025.

Highly doubt they see 2024 draftee Kayle Gerryen as a long term ruck prospect more a KPP that can chop out.

ROB is an unrestricted free agent, Draper is a RFA.

Yeah, if Bryan doesn't quite look up to it, they may feel differently. Goldstein definitely is gone.

Gerryn seems like a great prospect for a 2nd ruck/3rd tall. But he would be years away yet.
