Preseason will no doubt answer those questions most of us have pondered.

Weiters, McGovern, Saad, Cowan, Haynes and Ollie seem to be the consensus for our back 6. With McGovern playing on the smaller players.

Who do we play as our 7th defender? JSOS/Boyd? How bad is Boyd’s injury?

Doc and Acres appear to be our wingmen. How do we fit Binns in?

Jagga plays, but what about Cottrell? Lord?

It seems Motlop and Williams have the small forward positions locked up. Elijah as our hff. Charlie and H locks.

Who gets a run in our forward line out of Kemp and Moir?

Is Fog a lock or has Fantasia shown he is back to his best?

Who will be our round 1 sub?

Looking forward to it.

Bench from JSOS, Fantasia (if he is fit as it appears) or Fog, Cotters, Binns, Moir

One of Kemp/Moir to start in the front 6. Maybe Kemp as a tallish 3rd tall. A legitimate marking target as a foil to C and H.

Think moir will need to earn his spot through the ressies... a fit Mots and #6, plus #20 give us ample x factor up front.

Both Kemp and JSOS can be swingmen as required...

Jagga to play ahead of Lord, ditto George H...

I reckon a forward/wing type gets the sub role most weeks. Seems to be the way Voss normally goes.

I know Hewett/Kennedy were at times, but I think that was more about fitting them in the side. A pure mid not great as sub as forces you to sub out or shift one of your main onballers to accommodate them. They are normally your best players and your sub a fringe type, so not ideal.

Fantastia, Fogarty, Cotts, Binns could be guys in line for that sub role. Maybe even L.Camporeale.

If a back or mid gets injured we have stacks of options in the 22 to backfill. Doc and Lij can go onball. More minutes for Jagga. Even Williams. Doc, Cerra Williams can all go back. Even Lij or Acres if required.

If nobody gets injured you just swap out you least effective forward or if well up use the sub for load management.

If our list remains healthy, surely the sub role becomes a rotational thing.

Most of our kids will be better served by a full game in the twos than likely a quarter at best in the top team. That exposure, however is priceless. There are ten or more players who could rotate through the role. The player you didn’t mention is Cooper Lord. He is undersold by many on here, but may struggle to usurp some of the incumbents. I love that he is a hard nosed inside player with discipline to do the one percenters, the team things. The big point of difference is his ability to run and spread.

I won’t “declare” him a rising star, but he has the skill set to be just that. Love me a “Cinderella story” and Coop could well be it.

Durdin will push hard for a spot, but likely will be reintroduced as sub, given that Zac, Mots and Fog are in front and Orazio has seemingly turned back the clock this pre-season. With Lij pencilled in as a high half forward and Jagga likely to reprise the Walsh role starting forward before becoming an extra mid, we surely only play three small forwards. Then there is Moir to enter the mix sooner or later.

I will be surprised if both Camporeale boys don’t see a little game time, with Wilson and Carroll ready to step up if called upon. Hoping Binns gets a decent run at it at least at some stage during the season. Hard to see him displace Doc and Acres, but they are closer to the end (one more than the other) and it would be a shame should he leave for more opportunity before a more permanent role opens up.

I agree it will be rotational. That's why I haven't been naming one in my best 22/23. It should be a different guy every week.

I personally don't love Cooper Lord as sub, not because I don't rate him but because he's a pure onballer like I mentioned. Prefer forward/ wing types.

I think he is sold short. If he has the scope I believe he does, he could easily play half back, half forward or wing. Some of the give and get footage in the pre season videos and what I saw in the wet at Maroochydore were ultra impressive. Having a young, fresh inside/outside with a hunger come on to change up our engine room or just the grunt around the periphery would be super impactful. Suspect could be a super sub come September if he can’t find a permanent gig.

Lord, Binns, possibly Wilson and Carroll down back, Corey Durdin who unfortunately will need to catch up with those having a complete preseason, Moir, even Orazio if our panel goes with Williams, Motlop and Fogarty along with the hybrids as most of us expect. That is a decent list of players deserving a start, let alone a sub spot. Ben Campo has had a set back, but brother Lucas on his impressive pre season is also in that mix.

Edit: Have done Cottrell a disservice not giving him a mention too, and I don’t have Boyd in my 22.

It is a couple of years early to look for replacements

Is it really if we are looking at the draft for replacements?

How long did it take for H to become a regular contributor after he was drafted?

Takes a while for KPP to come on. Have to think 4-5 years ahead. It's why I agree with you that there's still hope for Lemmey.

I’d take both, but we have been told they intend leaving spot open for Newman in case he recovers.

If it’s only one do we take the straight out defender considering already have two players in kemp and Silvagni who will be going for/def.

We could play both guys forward and slot Phillips back if Charlie has delayed start.

Does McMahon equal lack of confidence in those two?
Can always slide someone else to the inactive list.

I am betting that H in particular, and/or Charlie has five years of good footy to come. With us using our 2025 first rounder for Jagga and Cody W having his name on our first rounder in ‘26, as well as our second and more if we are trying to match a top two or three pick with a pick around 18, we are highly unlikely to get the draft capital to seriously attack the draft for a key.

I am hoping (blue lenses) that Harry Dean along with Jack Ison and Tyson Gresham step us as f/s and NGA prospects at a little discount in the ‘25 draft. ‘26 likely Cody Walker plus rookie upgrades.

We may trade out some mid tier types to gain a second or third rounder (hopefully better if in demand) in those years, but draft capital will be limited and potentially spoken for.

For mine, unless we are 100% convinced Lemmey will make it, we need to nab McMahon in the SSP to have a viable option during any interim period. (Not discounting O’Keeffe adding to our tall forward mix in tandem with TDK). Kemp can add to the mix in transition, but I am not yet convinced he is a better forward than 3rd tall rebounding defender.. (Hop I am wrong)

Can't recently remember anyone subbing better than inside mid Paddy Dow, BamBam wasn't bad either.

Take the 'best available' ie who has performed best over the preseason.
Where we need depth depends on where we get injuries which is unknown.
