Autopsy Opening Round = GWS 104-52 Collingwood

Collingwood just hope it's the same as the Aussie Test Series vs India

Had a Shocker of a 1st Game but in 2nd Game switched on and played like we should of

I've stated this since the match simulations. We got stiffed with the week long trip interstate, 6 day break to play a wooden spoon Richmond side.
GWS is now the game to get our fitness up which the practice games were meant for. Prime example is Naicos cramping today rather than the practice games.

Now we have 6 days to get over the fatigue to be right for Port. But they have had a couple weeks off to get over their cramp and general soreness from proper practice match scheduling.
So if we recover enough in 6 days we are back on par. If not we have another 6 day break for the dogs and the BYE gets us back on par.

We will come good. We are just stuck catching up.
And if we were to finish this year in the top 4 with 6-7 losses. Losing to one of the flag favourites interstate is not a surprise. Still a lot to still play out...
And this, could be what we saw happen last year. Except our bye didn’t come until even later. But first three weeks was playing catch up. We also had a shorter preseason being premiers.

Finally, where the hell is the dare? We were so vanilla.
This, this, and this all day.

We've really struggled to show any dare, any excitement, and break-neck speed and risk-taking since 2023.

We need to find it again, because it was our greatest differentiating factor in the premiership year.

Our list isn't the best in the comp - but it doesn't have to be. It wasn't in 2023, either.

What we do need is some adventure to take the game on, and not just get dictated to.

Do you really think the players give a shit about letting you down?

They know how fickle the supposed supporters are, and how little they understand about the game.

We hit the wall physically today, and we struggled to convert our forward 50 chances.

We will bounce back.
Jmac- supporters should be able to express their disappointment and even anger when we put in a terrible performance. He never said the players give a shit about letting him down. He is simply saying he feels let down. The team gets showered in praise and love when they win. Criticizing poor performances is not being fickle. I'm sure the coaching staff will also be very critical and feeling disappointed. Not turning up to support the team the following week is fickle. If you can't say you feel let down after the high expectations built up over a long summer, then what's the point of a forum?

Stats can tell lies. We won CP by panic-handballing and hacking it forward, inviting pressure where clean hands wouldn't have necessitated it. We created contested possessions for ourselves. God, we were bad.

When they won a clearance they did it with such authority that there wasn't a hand on them.

As evidence, to be out-tackled 60-39 in a game you lose by almost ten goals... that's embarrassing. The giants players couldn't have a contested possession, because here was never any pressure on them.
The numbers NEVER lie - they don’t have emotional baggage like supporters.
So you were wrong about our contested game.
How we used possession from contest is a different issue.

Express away, and I have the right to express back.

You’ve seen many seasons and know that the first game is often misleading.

Let the fools make fools of themselves, and the rest of us can march to glory.

Id love to know where the get it in long came from lower your eyes and look for a target, also I felt that we either fumbled in the contest or left the contest to early I don't understand why the hot pepper handball we should have just taken the tackle and started again, I'm putting it down to there being no heat in the Richmond contest and is getting ahead of ourselves

So you think today’s performance was admirable? They played pathetic and let us down for the first game of the season.

It’s just not something people should have any expectation of being subjected to unwillingly, nor directly targeted for.

Mate I agree, but if someone on a Sunday night has the time to open a fake account to troll someone I don’t blink.

Joke is on them and they can’t understand why people are laughing.

Mostly good news there then. Nick just cramp excellent news.

Jordy not ready no good.

Cox in the mix again is good. We do win when big Coxy plays and do a lot more losing when he doesn’t! Just not sure how he fits in but we played our best footy with the two rucks in 2022 and 2023.

A first game hiding is not for the faint hearted, but I’ll postpone panicking until next week…if we lose.

There’s a lot of ‘new’ and challenging stuff to bed down. New players, new senior coaching assistants, a change to the game plan (according to Fly - I can’t tell), and a well documented decision to keep playing our older players in the face of AFL wide scepticism.

Things can go wrong.

Although the main concern I have - and I had it last year when Wright’s absence caused some internal chaos - is that we have lost the brains trust who delivered the ‘23 flag, the great triumvirate of Fly, Leppa and Bolts who coached us so brilliantly in 2022-23. I also acknowledge that it’s difficult from the outside to assess the performance of assistant coaches. They are a new team too.

So, we need to be patient.

(Who am I kidding? This is Big Footy).

Could be worse, the 1st game of the season could be our perennial false hope - like Carlton's is.

Silver linings.

Don't allow those 2 purple.patches totalling 7 mins for 7 goals in 1st half and convert its a very different finish.
Foward execution was woeful and no ability to defend from their first hands at a clearance.
Not totally terrible some stuff to.work with.
Maybe a harsh call is needed on some as
Mcreery Elliot Hill mcstay membrey Schultz is just a bad mix doesn't seem to gel. Get Cox in there as a dangerous option.
Schulz and mcreery vulnerable

I have felt that the Giants play us with great vigor and violence within the law as Kingsley said because they believe we are susceptible to a side who attacks with fierce physicality. It's the first time other than the Hawthorn game where I felt we were feeling the heat and couldn't step up and respond in kind. That smug smile on Kingsley's face when the siren sounded looked like a "we own you" smirk. I won't use the S word, but it certainly crossed my mind as I watched them maul us.

Fortunately, we can rock up next week and play with a similar ferocity and redeem ourselves.

I wasn't expecting to see Jordy until after the bye to be honest. We played him when he wasn't ready a couple of times last year, and he pretty much won us both games, but we paid the price.

Thinking out loud here , that verbal stoush on the bench between Fly and Kingsley may have something to do with Bedford squeezing the little Masters family jewels. Watch replay , Nick was at stoppage, collects ball ,” no pun intended , “ midair. Bedford squirrel grips the little master ,
watch this space ..
Can someone clip this
