Pendlebury ended up working his way into last season becoming an important cog in our modified once again but playing as defensive mid but we’ve got Perryman playing that role.

Where he fit in this season is less clear and given the lack of pace this team has something has to give.
You're being overly generous to our aged champion. Pendles was a liability in the midfield. He attended 20 (!!!) centre bounces for only two centre clearances and only one tackle for the entire game - because they were all too quick for him. Unfortunately he wasn't much better around the ground, only gathering another two clearances from boundary throw-ins and ball-ups.

Frankly, he should never have been put in a position to be exploited like that. Fly and co had a mare in the coaching box. Perryman should have played midfield all day and Crisp should have been in the centre square too. If one of our old boys was going to play in there, it should have been Sidey - purely to tag Kelly. With Houston unavailable, Pendles should have played on a half-back flank in a Hodge-like quarterback role.

Not the best time to have a bad game when Cornes is on 235 different shows.
I bet he was positively salivating at the thought of sticking the knife into us after yesterday’s game. He’s probably the worst Collingwood hater in the media, and there’s quite a few of them there.

Cornes doesn't have the ability to hate, he just goes for the click bait. Very smart for someone with really no talent whatsoever

How many centre bounces did Perryman and Crisp attend together? They were killing us on pace so in hindsight, would’ve been good to see a combination of them and Allan or even Beau for a bit.
Centre bounce was OK. Both teams had some good breaks from centre bounce. It was more the general transition from turnover where they were above us - and that's not centre square - they were faster and it appeared fitter all over the park.

I’ll be shocked if we don’t bounce back. The media spotlight should light a fire under the squad.

I remember when we lost opening round last season, it was kind of shrugged off by pundits because we were reigning premiers (and rightly so).

I’m far from concerned at the moment though if we get rolled this Saturday, I will be.
Yeah if they don’t come out breathing fire Saturday night it’ll be a huge concern

Quite impressive how the AFL have managed to find a way to give us a 6 day break 3 weeks in a row to start the season
Someone highlighted that our unofficial praccy game was a shambles because of the 3 team & mix of VFL format, which was followed by playing a bunch of kids.

Our training throughout the preseason was noted of incorporating minimal tackling for preservation purposes.

Hardly ideal prep. Thinking this was our first proper hit out and we stayed competitive until the 4th quarter is the narrative I’m running with.

Edit: not sure why I quoted your post but I’m leaving it in here.

Round 1 against Port is also likely to be 32 with a chance of showers, which means it could also be humid

Surely we're not also going to complain about Round 1?

Given we just had one of our hottest summers in years, there's every chance that warm weather will carry through March and much of April. We've had some pretty decently hot ANZAC Days in the past.

We won a flag on a 29 degree day

I really feel like we might be clutching at straws a little but with the heat

Having said that, my mate who is from Sydney and goes for the Pies (I converted him at the encd of 2024 from Geelong) went to the game and said he was quite astonished at how hot it felt at the ground

His theory was that that kind of heat probably affected older players more than younger players (particularly ones who are more acclimatised to it). But even if I choose to accept the heat as an excuse for some parts of our game, it doesn't account for all of it
Round Zero is a morons concept.
Hang the campaigners.

Round 0 can f@#k off.

Hopefully a combination of the conditions and being a bit ahead of ourselves after the Richmond game.

Hope it is a reality check as we sure need it.

I don't buy into the theybuad more outs.
You could argue DeGoey and Houston really was telling to our structures.

Love Beau, but he really needs to make the next step, has all the tools to be an extractor but yet to deliver.

Was okay with Ed Allen's game, just gotta get 15-20 games I to this guy.

Reef tried but dropped many puds. Will need to get better there, literally cost us a few goals.

We were killed in transition, think our coaching was a bit ordinary, we should ha e pushed our forwards up the ground and race back with our smalls.

Going to be an interesting watch with Pendles this year, see the scribes are already out for him. Sure he will be okay and play to his current strengths/limitations.

We need some pace badly as there will be teams who destroy us with theirs if we don't turn up.

I think Crisp needs to find a new role, last 6 months he seems to be lost in patches or groupings of games.

I was hoping to see some centre bounce change ups, but not many combinations tried, though Crisp and Beau may have offered more than SP10.

Bobby was disappointing and hope he can just work on the basics a bit more.
We need his pressure and unselfish play to return ASAP.

Way too early to call out Pendles as too slow for the midfield. People made similar comments two or three years ago. We had a very poor game. Shit happens. If it becomes a pattern we can talk. I think Pendles will be fine.
I think it is a pattern
Probably should play him as sub at the beginning of the season when the pace on the game is high
He came into his own through the middle of the season last year when we were down on midfielders on the slower winter grounds

Dude is on air literally 10+ times in a week

SEN Brekky twice + Sportsday 4 times
The Agenda Setters is gonna be twice a week
Kane’s Call (stupid name for a show as well as Agenda Setters)
His new AFL website show with Sarah Olle
Plus commentary roles

Opinions of him aside this is bordering on overexposure, and more platforms to spell out his rubbish

No other AFL media member is on this frequently

Fly even said the team may look different in Autumn, Winter and Spring.

Great reasons not to watch 7, listen to SEN, or read the AFL website.

You might want to re-think your counting.

There’s still two 6 breaks to come and we have 3 games in 12 days
And just like last year we get short changed .. they’ll make us play opening round against Sydney or giants indefinitely while they are both good teams
This nsw thing will only go on with us while the nsw teams are good
As soon as they aren’t they’ll shift us to a better team first up

FWIW the Monday and Friday SEN shows are probably the only things of his I’d listen to.
I guess the added benefit is not having to look at his stupid face.
