It's said after every premiership that the winning team got there because their bottom 6 'best 22' players improved significantly. We simply don't have the depth - Need at least four of these young lads to seriously step up. Otherwise? We're battling with St Kilda & Adelaide for the 10th spot on the ladder.
SOS's diastrous picks in Dow, LOB, Stocker, Kemp, & Philp will haunt us forever.

Two questions:

1 - Why does TDK continually try and wrestle bigger ruckman at a ball up?
Surely he could stand 3-5meters away and run in and use his leap

2 - When 41pts up, whats wrong with keeping the ball outside our forward line and pplay kick to kick when the opposition flood back?
No need for us to score, takes time off the clock and bombing the ball in to out numbered contests doesn't work
Oh god yes.
Nothing wrong with safe options moving the oppo around.
eventually an option will present, even if it’s a shot on the run from 55

In his first season we were in the top 8 every day of the season bar 1, the very last match of the very last round, if i recall we lost our last 5 games to miss the 8 by a whisker of %.

In our second year we started poorly were about 14th on the ladder half way through the year and went on a great run and possibly should have gone one win better.

Last year we started well but fell away terribly at the end finishing with i think 6 losses in the last 7-8 matches.

There’s a constant here in all three seasons, large blocks of game where the team falls in a heap, the great run of form in 2023 is glossing over a lot of issues and giving Voss a bit of leeway im not sure he deserves.
Since June 30 last year we fell in against the Kangas and beat the Eagles.

Have to disagree here at least in part Arrow, it’s a two way street and the players need to do their part in terms of buy in.

Some are but a lot can’t seem to find that bit extra when it’s required.

Pretty much all these players have enough talent and fitness, between the ears separates them

The players need to lift, better buy in, more effort and all that but and this is a long held view, Voss is the one that picks the players, Voss is the guy who picks the players who half are tackle, half arse chase, spoil or whatever negative trait you see. Voss sets the standards by who he selects and who he doesnt.

A few have spoken about Charlies poor second efforts, poor tackling, poor chasing, giving up in marking contests when out of position and other things, yet he is in our leadership team and so is another player.

So yeah i agree but i still think its the coach.

You know what looked shocking. Evans kicking his first goal off Williams fingers and Williams throwing a tantrum in the goal square.

The quicker we are free from his contract the better.
Yeah that was very weird. At the time I tried to give Williams the benefit of the doubt that maybe he was annoyed at himself for going to ground and not finishing the play himself. But it's indicative of the mindset our players have. Focused on themselves.

Lord had 2 disposals and 1 tackle in the 35-40 minutes before he was subbed out. Don’t know whether he was sore or what the deal was, but he was fading
I thought Lord was poor. I would have told him to run with Taranto when he was running hot. I saw him line up at some stoppages but wasn't a tag.

Poor coaching. Needed to stop the momentum and change it up, rather than close your eyes and prey for the best.

Ok, so more in depth than bring mouthguards to training from me.

1. We lacked a mix of gut running and speed across the game last night, can't think of anyone using foot speed to open up the field once.
2. We made soft & lazy efforts where plays required fundamental skill execution under a fraction of AFL Level Pressure (Gov kicking off the ground, the Cowan, Doc, SOS handball chain, Cow torping it 400 metres high and 15 metres long, Gov missing a simple handball across half back, Haynes and Gov not marking or killing the ball on the 50/ boundary, all resulting in goals)
3. A fraction of our players could tackle, and even then that was conditional on the play being congestion, not in an "at speed" situation
4. When pressure came and Richmond put numbers behind the ball, we decided kicking it on top of heads with shallow inside 50's was the best option instead of spreading their zone and at least creating defendable deep 50 attacks.
5. How long was Vlaustin allowed to be on his own creating a headache for us. Poor coaching effort there.

Game was a mixed bag, I hope they are iron it out, but that can't be viewed as acceptable within the footy club.

Onto some of the good

1. Campo went ok, found the footy, needs to adjust to the timing and tempo and make better decisions but a good hit out.
2. I thought TDK was pretty good against a seasoned and successful ruckmen.
3. Jack did well at both ends.
4. Only Round 1, so plenty of time to rectify our game

Not Carlton related by I enjoyed watching Lalor play, looks to be a special player.

After last night performance you are being very generous we looked like a bottom 4 side with no future picks....Hawthorn is laughing at us right now and will be laughing harder next Thursday night...

Except for the fact he kicked 2 goals, and had another 2 shots touched on the goal line during the final quarter
Sure. Nice if he'd showed a bit earlier than that though. No good turning up when the game is done. Seriously, I hope he comes good, it's clear he's got the talent. But I wouldn't be picking him yet.

It took all of three quarters for Voss to be back on the boundary line after agreeing he should coach from the box.
This is another thing that is infuriating about this club. Everything is guesswork.

We say or do things in the hope that they will work, not because we know they will work.

"Oh I'm going to coach from the box this year. Actually, we're losing now so I'll go back to the boundary."

"Zac Williams was recruited to play midfield so that's where he'll play. Actually, he's going back to the backline. Actually he's a forward and we didn't realise." (Don't be surprised if Williams actually returns to defence next week).

"Brodie Kemp is our second KPD, he'll be given time to develop in that role. Oh he's actually a forward."

**** off.

I'll fess up that i didn't realise the game was being televised and only tuned into the final quarter...in which time he took mark of the day, and kicked 1.2 - with the 2 behinds being touched on the line. Looked a world beater in that quarter - but disappointing to hear he was unsighted during the first 3.

It feels even worse today.
For you maybe. As for me, the sun still came up this morning. I have one more shift, before enjoying a week off.

As for the Dawks, they will have a solid win tonight against the Injectors imo.

Then with the extra days break and the inclusion of Charlie, Carroll and White hopefully.

We will play for keeps and show some heart and smash those putrid arrogant flogs, mark my words.

Was shattered last night, like the rest of us. Reality is, this season is far from over.
